So did it work tapping into the serial data wire without having it directly plugged into the obd2

I'm getting ready to do similar to you with my 88, vhx gauges, Holley Terminator, ls swap. So with the Bim I'll only have to run the wires for the indicator lights correct?

The lights, turn signals, fuel, and 12v power from the original cluster wires then a constant power wire and then you have run their oil pressure sensor and harness they give you since the LS doesn't read oil pressure.

What year 5.3? Did it provide oil pressure? Some years don’t.
