I find it very difficult to stay professional and confident while answering this question. It's makes me feel very probed judged and nervous. I find myself slipping into begging mode, like I used to do to try to get my father to approve of me and be nice to me. Having a history of emotional abuse makes this question extremely challenging. By begging mode, I mean super sweet and childish in a way, as though trying to please a superior. When I catch myself doing it I berate myself for it, because I'm flippin' nearly 50 years old, and I still feel not good enough. Can't wait to retire and have all this behind me. I have no career aspirations. I just need some cash for gas and groceries and stuff.

Hi Heather! As we are half way through 2020, I find this question incredibly lazy. I was okay with it 10 years ago, but times change. This is a real failure for the interviewer to prep and get to know the interviewee in any way. They are expecting the interviewee to have done their research, but this is a two way street. I immediately have doubts about an interviewer that asks me this question to "get things rolling". I wonder if I want to work with someone that takes such a lazy approach to vetting potential candidates. And while I understand that this question continues to come up and therefore you need to address it, I wonder if you can use your voice and platform to encourage future and current hiring managers and HR reps to avoid this question?
