I was in Viet Nam when they played that song.. 500 soldiers standing up and screaming "WE GOT TO GET OUT OF THIS PLACE" Some with tears running down their faces and they didn't care..We all felt the same way.. .. Its a moment one can never forget in his lifetime and I have never have .. its burnt in my memory forever !!!

Two and a half years ago my husband was laid off. After 17 years in the same place in Central Florida, we had to pick up the family and move. We moved to a small town in the panhandle of Fl. We've been here for two years, but thank God, my husband has been blessed with a new job in our original place! This is our theme song for leaving this small, nice, but slightly backwards town.

I'll never forget hearing this song on the radio as the bus pulled into the New York City bus station, while I looked out the window at masses of tenements with clotheslines strung out the windows marching off into the Manhattan distance in 1965. It was the right song at the right moment, my first introduction to urban life.

Interesting fact, the bass guitarist for the Animals, Chas Chandler, was the guy who became the manager for Jimi Hendrix and helped propel him from the obscurity of "sideman" status to super-star. Of course, that would have been inevitable regardless of who was Hendrix's manager. And I count myself as fortunate enough to have seen Hendrix live in concert. Nothing was the same after that!

OMFG....Thanks for this! And what really blows my brains out is how fully engaged Chas Chandler is in directing and supporting the guys here!!
I'm fully seeing how that Jimi Hendrix is the only possible thing that could make him bail because he had Eric Burden right there in his reality
Only Hendrix could've pulled him out of this
And being so monstrous and engaged with The Animals can you imagine what it felt like for him to drop the bass and all the support work and just concentrate on getting Jimi on stage for the whole planet to see without anything else distracting him
Eric Burden was the most incredible thing that hit the States! But Chas brought it all back to England and then DESTROYED the planet...
Unbelievable and we all respected and understood it because Jimi fit in so perfectly with Eric Burden and everyone else in the industry right up until he left us all.
One of my favorite concerts was in Arizona USA-Eric Burden touring with Jimmy Witherspoon doing real R&B circa '72...never forget it...Eric Burden is the most incredible vocalist!!!
This video shows Eric's laid back and still intense mastery!
    Thanks again!
