- I talk about an all time classic film, something that has permanently changed the path of the Western genre. And continues to change the landscape of media to this very day. It's also one of my mom's favorite movies, and it's her birthday. So two birds, one stone.

Ecstasy of Gold (Bandini Remix)- Ennio Morricone
The Shootist- Red Dead Redemption OST
The Outlaw's Return- Red Dead Redemption OST

“No one in your family ever lives to see a sequel.” -Clint Eastwood
That's especially messed up since they're making a reboot of the Crow
That one still is funny. And anyone who says “that’s too far” can screw off.
Happy Birthday to your momma, no insult.
Happy birthday to YOUR momma
Her birthday present be not having Shota in the house
That is a true present. No Shota under her roof
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday, lolis mom
My dad once told me Eli Wallach joked around with people for years saying he was the Good and Eastwood was the Ugly.
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly is the only (as far as I'm aware) piece of media that covers the New Mexico campaign in the Civil War. We even see General Henry Hopkins Sibley in the movie.
Yeah, I’ve never seen it covered otherwise.
Ayyy
To TAL’s mom: I hope you enjoy it!
One of those films I would absolutely love to see on the big screen, the wide shots of beautiful scenery with Morricones score would be such a feast to the eyes and ears.
The surround would be insane
We have a local cinema in my town that replays classics from time to time, a few years ago they did an entire month dedicated to Sergio Leone, and just this June they did a Herzog month!
@@impatoteclucky
This film's greatest achievement will always be making three guys staring at each other in a graveyard for five minutes one of the best things you've ever seen.
I love that it's a 2hr film with 4-5 pages worth of dialog.
that's where Morricone's magic comes in
RIP Morricone, a man like no other with an unparalleled vision. Leone and Morricone were truly a match made in dusty heaven.
Ironically, when "fist full of dollar" came out critics hated Ennio Morricone's score, years later he would re use the same scores in Tarantino's "Hateful Eight" and win a Oscar for it.
Just goes to show "critics" have no real scruples; they just mindlessly follow trends, praising that which conforms and maligning that which has yet to start _new_ trends. Once those new trends are set, _suddenly_ it's amazing when they're referenced and reused again and again. They praise the status quo because it ensures they keep their low-brow jobs, nothing more.
@@Armameteus The idea of movie critics should be discarded at this point, it's now well known that they're nothing but greedy industry shills.
As Loli states in the video, spaghetti westerns were considered trashy cinema at the time, cheap imitations of the real thing, in the same vein as the millions of Star Wars clones from foreign countries. Sergio Leone just managed to be talented enough a filmmaker to lift an entire genre into relevance.
It's actually amazing that TGTBATU got such glowing reviews when it was released, bearing that in mind. Roger Ebert gave it a 3.5/4 stars, and admitted decades later that it should've been an easy 4 stars, if not for the stigma against spaghetti westerns at the time.
Happy birthday loli's mom
He's been a very bad boy he vapes
missed opportunity to spot Clint Eastwood in a golf automobile in RANGO
That was Timothy Olymphant
@@gustavoalmanza2673Indeed, but we all know who the role he played was meant to represent. Would've been nice to hear Clint Eastwood's voice there, but I imagine it may have been more work than it was worth to get Clint Eastwood to record a few lines for a character that only appears in a single scene.
"I'll keep the money, you keep the rope"
Shoutout to my old man who showed me the dollar trilogy when I was like 7 or 8. It's always been one of my favorite films ever since. Clint Eastwood is to boomers what Ryan Gosling is to zoomers lmao
"He's literally me"
One of my first memories is watching this with my grandpa and then trying to recreate the standoff scene with my dogs
Mother has fire taste
My cherish and most favorite western style movie that I always watch multiple times when I was an child with my beloved grandpa until now as an adult. In fact as a side note - an western themed JRPG game called "Wild Arms" and it's composer Michiko Naruke stated that this movie and it's legendary OST created by Ennio Morricone is one of it's main inspirations for the game's soundtrack which the certain feel and tone of it remains. I just wanted to say TY for the review since it'll forever gonna be my happiest moments when my beloved grandpa was alive and where just arguing at each other because I'm too loud and excited for some reason 🤣😢 but at its stands this is my true masterpiece and I'll gonna tell this one to my grandchildren when I'm got old enough. Godspeed
The overworld theme for Wild Arms 1 has an obvious motif from Ecstacy of Gold, right there at the beginning.
Blondie despite being called the “good” has the highest kill count. With Tuco the “ugly” has the second highest. Angel Eyes “the bad” actually had the lowest kill count with 1 being in self defense.
To be fair, a lot of Blondie's kills can be considered self defense, since most of the people he kills were actively trying to kill him as well.
Theres two kinds of people my friend, those who listen to TheAlmightyLoli while goofin around at work, and those who dig.
As a kid I used to watch this movie over and over again without knowing a single word of English and not being able to read fast enough to read the subtitles. Even tho I didn't have a clue what the fuck was going on I couldn't take my eyes off.
13:40 - 14:04 loved that part in John Wick 3. I cracked the biggest smile when Wick was doing the revolver tribute
Those movies are a special kind of strange and I like it.
Happy birthday to Loli's mom as well. As someone whose Mom is going through chemo, always be there for her.
P.S. : sorry if I'm a broken record (slightly autistic), but how is the Edgar Rice Burroughs going?
I love the Dollars trilogy. While For a Few Dollars More is my personal favorite, The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly is still top tier gold when it comes to Spaghetti Westerns.
Same. Few Dollars More has my favorite story of the trilogy, and Colonel Mortimer is my favorite character in all of them.
"I was like you once...then something happened. Made life very precious to me."
Good video! Happy B-day to your mom.
Also, there is some speculation that Kurosawa lifted a good deal from the novel Red Harvest, so the accusations of plagiarism from Kurosawa are pretty funny in light of that.
This is also one of my favorite movies of all time. Thanks for the review.
"We're thieves, in a world that don't want us no more".
Awesome video BTW and happy birthday to your mother!
Pretty sweet of you to do this for your mom. My dad is a big fan of Clint Eastwood and spaghetti westerns, and he’s a sucker for any movie that oozes those movies’ dna in any way. I’ll try to rewatch this one with him again, since why not? Cheers.
My goodness, my mom ALSO loves this film with a burning passion. Hope your mother has a good birthday!!
This movie is an interesting tale for me, because i've seen the inspired movie called "Um pistoleiro chamado Papaco" before this one. It is a funny movie with AMAZING quotes, that are referenced in movie groups and in memes.
this is like objectively one of the greatest films of all time, and imo a cornerstone for a bunch of modern cinema
You're a good son Loli. Also Happy Birthday Mama Loli.
One of the few movies I'd consider a true 10/10. Hope those rumors about a remake will remain a rumor, this film does NOT need a remake.
That is a devious beat at the beginning
Ngl, knowing that all three of those films have the same actors for leads, I do wonder if the "Trilogy" aspect was accidental/coincidental because I wasn't expecting Angel Eyes to have been in the previous film, if only playing a different character. I need to sit down and watch these, but dang...
kinda odd to me that you didn't know that since Lee van Cleef's face is so iconic
I'd recognise him anywhere (if he were still alive, that is)
@@arafat2924 I will admit: I don't watch too many films, but also, I didn't think there would be more things tying the films together aside from. Clint Eastwood.
Your mother is proud, Son.
I remember for my Middle School Spanish class, I had to do a presentation on a place in Spain. I forgot the exact location, but one of it’s main drawing points was that they filmed Western movies there. I hadn’t seen any of Sergio’s movies until I was much older, but I’m glad that know the fact while everyone else got confused that it wasn’t filmed in America!
Desierto de Almería, probably
First backing soundtrack you use is from RDR1. I knew this was gonna be a good one!
Also, happy birthday to your mama!
Happy Birthday, TheAlmightyMom
Cheers for another awesome review man.
And tell your mom I say hi...b-but in a wholesale way.....for her birthday.
Happy birthday to TAL,s mom. Have a great birthday.
Only saw this movie during 2020 shutdown after playing Red Dead 2 and it absolutely made my year being on a cowboy kick - bought a Winchester levergun and Colt Python because of it lol.
This movie is among the greatest. Goosebumps with the final showdown, the music playing in it is amazing.
A true classic
Happy birthday to your mom 🎂
My dad used to have this on VHS back in the day, I probably haven't seen it since I was in the single digits. Sadly both the VHS and my dad have been gone for 20+ years, so guess this is a sign to rewatch this movie.
Happy birthday to your momma. Lovely birthday present for her.
Sergione Leone was a master of cinematography, especially with his classic face zoom. Love the fact that people in these movies just look like random people, which many were
Happy birthday Mother TAL.
We were watching this in the server and everybody was pitch quiet throughout the entire viewing. That's how you know a movie like The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, has aged phenomenally.
Good stuff!
It's actually contested if Yojimbo is an unofficial adaptation of Dashiel Hammett's "Red Harvest" about a pinkerton detective who finds himself in a town in the middle of a gang war and plays the 2 against the other by joining up and switching sides, same as Yojimbo, same as A Fistful of Dollars and same as Walter Hill's Last Man Standing.
Leone is one of the all time greatest film directors.
I like that you don’t denigrate the traditional western. I love spaghetti westerns too, they’re my first love. But a lot of people trash talk old westerns in the process
This is my grandpa's favorite movie. He loved every movie Clint Eastwood was in, but the ones he loved the most were the good the bad and the ugly and a fistful of dollars and a few dollars more.
Btw, the 3 movies I mentioned are also my favorites. I didn't get to watch them with my papaw since he died when I was young, but my mom told me about how these were his most favorite movies. Every time they went on air, he would watch them, so I watch them in memory of him, and if I have a family, I'm going to make it a tradition to watch them and keep them alive.
Old school Eastwood movies are good times all around. Feelin' lucky, punk?
Have many many many good memories of watching this, the rest of the dollars trilogy, and Hang em' High with my brother when we were younger. Absolute top tier set of films and well worth anyone's time to this very day.
The displacement of the Spaghetti Westerns location and the uncanny re-dubbing of the actor’s voices give the films an other-worldly quality. The West of these movies is more of a state of mind than an actual place.
I chose to watch this for the first time before playing the original Red Dead Redemption to get me in the mood for the game back in the day, one of only a handful of times I did this, the other being Apocalypse Now before playing the original Black Ops. It worked to say the least.
Problem I have with the movie, is that I was raised on John Wayne and other more upbeat heroic westerns. So when I try to watch something like this, it just does not click with me. Like it is a Western, but not what I am used to, so just lose interest.
That being said, I can think of how this film influenced Eastwood's career. The man made two additional movies with a similar plot: "Where Eagle's Dare" and "Kelly's Heroes."
Those with guns. And those who dig
I listen to this soundtrack when I workout, ennio morricone was a genius
A classic and one of my favourite westerns.
I think one of my favorite scenes is when Tuco meets his brother. For the first time, we really see the loneliness and bitterness behind him. And the refuge he takes in the fact his brother will always have a bowl of soup ready for him, no matter how awful he is.
Dude is that the guy from from epic rap battles of history?
when i was 15, a friend of mine who i used to go to church with came over to my house for a sleepover. he brought with him 4 or 5 dvds for us to watch. 2 of those movies would end up becoming some of my favorites films of all time: The Thing (1983) and The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. The Thing is my all time favorite horror film and GBU is one of my favorite westerns. (probably second only to The Searchers.)
Okay, maybe its you mom who gave you good taste, she deserves praise and respect
I thing one of my favorite descriptions for "revisionist westerns" like this one is that often the only difference between the heroes and the villains is if they enjoy killing or are simply very proficient at it
Your mom has good tastes in western movies. My personal favorite though is Unforgiven. Peak Clint Eastwood movie in my opinion.
Love unforgiven too (but the good, the bad and the ugly is my personal favorite western). Unforgiven feel like a sequel, a very good one for once, , I like to group it as the 4th part of the dollar trilogy...
@@MoeOuan666 Nah, William Munney is more of an aged Josey Wales - which is my personal favorite, for what it's worth.
@@einherjar8147 never saw josey Wales, but looking at the synopsis on Wikipedia I should 😁 one more movie added to my long 'should watch' list...
@@einherjar8147 from what I remember, Josey Wales' violence was way more justified than Munny's
The Good the Bad and the Ugly and the Dollar Trilogies are a masterpiece of westerns Cinema great video review on it.
Good video Loli, great that you covered this one and planning on going for the rest of the trilogy.
A personal experience of mine is that I was lucky enough to attend A Morricone concert in 2019 during his 90th year anniversary tour. It was an amazing experience. May he, Sergio and all other great people who contributed to these movies either keep living on happily or rest in peace.
Happy Birthday To Mother Of Thealmightyloli
Your all forgetting the greatest quote in this film. "Of course you know that's the thing about me. When I'm paid, I always see the job through". My mom always says that's when the movie really gets going. When the card writes the bad all you can think is "yep, he sure is".
Good timing for me, I actually watched the Dollar trilogy for the first time a few weeks ago.
One of my interpretations of the title is Blondie being referred to as "The Good" isn't in reference to his mortality, rather his competence, because at the end of the movie he proves himself to have outwit and outperform both of his adversaries.
I'll write this before I watch the video. This was the first Western I had ever seen as a kid. now in a lot of other genres I'd face a lot of disappointment after watching arguably the best one of the genre first, but luckily I was born in the '90s, almost every Great Western was made by the time I was 10. and boy what a genre it is. there may be some wiggle room and argument as to if this is truly the best Western. but there's no argument that this movie is the quintessential western. The music, the look, the sounds, the way it was shot, the characters. The cliches and the references all start here. you play ecstasy of Gold for any person on the street, whether they've seen this movie or not, hell whether they've seen a western or not. they know it's a cowboy movie. this film will always remain right at the tippy top of my favorite films. Theres no question when it comes to Sergio Leone being the best Western director and the man Ennio Morricone is just as monumental if not more. simply put, even if you don't like westerns, this is one movie you should see before you die
I would ask for more videos, but I'm not a fool. This quality content only can be made with great effort. Congratulations bro
Ah yeah, the dollars trilogy, came for Clint Eastwood, stayed for Lee van Cleef.
Interestingly, the Clint Eastwood western that ended up my most favorite is Pale Rider.
Also, HBD to your mom.
This was absolutely one of Leone's greatest, but his magnum opus was definitely Once Upon A Time In The West,it was just pure cinematic perfection and i hope you cover it sometime
agreed, I think that one is even better
Happy birthday TAL’s mom!! Please have a wonderful one!
My dad used to bother all the time to watch westerns, and I ignored them because I thought they were lame.
I was wrong, I ended up becoming a spaghetti western fan and I still listen to their music to this day.
RIP old man, I miss you.
Happy Birthday AlmightyOkaasan.
The song "the strong" that plays when Blondie is putting the coat over the dying soldier gave me massive chills when I first heard it, I still hum that tune 20 years later
Almighty loli lowkey testing my dopamine levels by releasing this video on top of my coding HW deadline
Nice. Demon Slayer Review when? You promised it in one of your Berserk Videos.
Happy Birthday to your Mom! I am going to watch this video proper once I finish watching this classic. I was just in the middle of watching it when this popped up in my feed. After this, I will have finished my watch of the Dollars Trilogy. A right of passage personally. Will comment again soon.
I think one very under appriciated thing about these older movies are just the legnth of each shot. Just letting the auidence take in the scene and in calmer moments breathe. Constrasting with modern action movies where the average length of a cut is less than half a minute, and in extreme cases barely a few seconds. Like, you don't need a close up of whoever is speaking all the time, you don't need to hyper focus on every small action. Zoom out and let the actors act and interact with the stage.
Of course, many of these actors started in theather and there you learn to act with your entire body, even when you're just speaking - walking around the set, gesturing, interacting with props on the stage and spice it up with some improv, like anyone would irl.
Happy Birthday, Loli's Mom!
The new Modelo commercial is lit.
Thanks for the review, anything about the good, the bad and the ugly is always a pleasure to see. My dad told me to watch the movie when it was aired on TV, that I will like it. I was around 10 and did not like Western at all (the classics you show are a perfect example why, I can appreciate those now but at the time they felt old, artificial, overplayed and quite ridiculous to the 10yo star wars fan I was at the time). I reluctantly watched, telling westerns sucks and will go sleep soon...The intro alone had me hooked and even if I played a little blasé, my dad saw I was hooked and smiled. I watched till the end even if it was too late and next day was schoolday... even my mom telling it was getting late and I should be sleeping was not really insistent, they saw it was not worth the drama to try to send me to bed 🤣🤣🤣
Still my favorite western till now, there are many other good ones, the other 2 from the trilogy for example, but this one is just on a level of his own. And Clint is Blondin, it's the role of his life (regardless of his other great roles), i have his face in mind when reading King's pistolero (so did King when writing it, apparently 😉)
This trilogy is one of my top movies of all time, I'm so glad you covered this one for us. Thanks a million bro
HBD AlmightyMama!
Doing it for mom
Understandable have a great day
happy birthday lolis mom you raised a good kid
You make great videos. It isn't the case with this video but you can keep me engaged talking about something I've never heard of.
A plan to see it a second time since it's been years when I last watched it. And Happy Birthday to your mother loli best wishes.
I've never seen it - It just feels like I've seen it.
Hope your mother enjoys this video as her birthday gift
Your mom has good taste, this is one of my all time favorites too.
Did you have to use the Modelo remix in the intro lol
There are two kinds of people in this world Loli. Those who love the Good, The Bad, and the Ugly and those who love For another Fistful of Dollars just as much.
I have returned from watching this movie proper. You are absolutely right. Words can never do justice to something like this, it is an experience you have to witness for yourself. Sure one can break down the scenes, the long takes and whatever. It is something everyone really should witness at least once in their life. Sure it gets referenced all the time in various types of media where thankfully it didn't get diluted or adopted by anyone else. Much like the gold found at the end, the greed between all three individual men kept me in deep with the film. Especially the music and just how beautiful it is at times while the sheer impact of the cannon fire shook me at times. But the one big moment that stuck with me was when Blondie wrote the gold's location under a rock and placed it in the middle. The twist caught me completely off guard as did the location. They don't make them like this anymore and I doubt there's anyone left that can.
For me, the greatest thing about thia movie is the direction.
Leone packs SO MUCH stuff in the movie that the 3 hours feel like 2. He leaves nothing to speculation, he shows us EVERYTHING.
Happy Birthday to your Mom, TAL
Happy Birthday TAL’s Mom!!!
