  • Bamboo? Really? YES! BAMBOO! This NEW KALA SOLID BAMBOO CONCERT UKULELE KA-BMB-C that I just got at the store.ukeliket... is super cool!! In this ukulele review video I'll show you this unique instrument that I called "Blondie". A really affordable and all solid wood ukulele, but the best of all: Bamboo is the most eco-friendly wood choice for a ukulele.
    Highly renewable, Bamboo regenerates quickly without being replanted. The many-layered, straight grain of the wood gives this collection a natural, earthy look. Bamboo provides a bright tone with great volume, harmonics, projection and sustain. The strength of bamboo makes for an extremely durable and resilient ukulele.
    If you are looking for something different and cool, you should totally check this Kala here on the #1 Ukulele Online Shop: store.ukeliket...

    I have the tenor with low G string. Warm sound, clean and not twangy! Projection and sustains sound to no end ❤️👏 Easy to hold, heavier, solid and doesn’t slip around. I like the metal feel of the tuners. I also love the black accents with the blond.

    Watching this video intrigued me so much about the concept of a bamboo 'ukulele that I knew I needed to buy one. It arrived today, safely I might add so kudos to the shipping department, and I couldn't wait to compare to my other concert uke, a mahogany Luna. The Kala is brighter and has a longer sustain. They're similar action-wise so playability doesn't suffer going between ukes. I -do- wish that black strings had been an option because the Aquilas are almost invisible against the body and fretboard. The fit and finish is wonderful. No separations to be found. I'm looking forward to many years with this uke!
    Mahalo!

    it's said that bamboo is extremely lightweight and highly elastic this is good news as far as string tension resists go. but unlike a lot of wood material you will not get those beautiful warm tone but as you once said in another of your videos - classic high pitch sounds. I love warm tones, but still bamboo is definitley a contender

    I bought a second hand tenor Kala bamboo just recently, purely for the tonal qualities. I found it a bit too "jangly" so I stripped it down, fitted a passive undersaddle pick up and Worth brown, low g strings. What a transformation, such a warm sounding and loud instrument.!

    #1 I love the fact that it is solid wood...even the bridge and neck. The sound is a little thin and higher pitched compared to another concert that I have. I am primarily a tenor player, but this one intrigues me. I have the opportunity to pick up a used one for $75 with case and stand so I will let you know more when I get to play it.

    All solid grass ;)
    Strips of bamboo properly flush-cut and glued together, to form a board, then cut again & finish so it looks like “solid wood”. Bamboo is a grass, it is not wood. But it is very strong: I have cut boards made from it, and dishwasher can’t break it. Can you put bamboo Uke to dishwasher to test? I am sure it will survive LOL ;)

    Wow that is an eye opener. That looks really profitable. As you've said bamboo grows fast.
    The process in making in seems to involve glue or resin on thin flat bamboo strips then sanding the green skin off. Since it is grass it probably ages quick too after a month the tight sound will diminish. I hope it lasts long with varnish, I heard bamboo is susceptible to dust mites. But I think it is intended to last a shorter time so that buyers will have to buy more. Man. Why do I see money in it.

    Very cool and certainly intriguing especially from a sustainability point of view. Technically not wood, bamboo is a grass, either way it seems really cool. I would consider a Tenor...are you aware Terry that Aklot sells a quite similar looking product? Thanks again with all the best!

    Are we being bamboozled? can we actually call this solid wood? Wouldn't a solid wood ukulele be the size of one's thumb nail? It seems that this is a laminate although all the pieces are bamboo as opposed to having different woods laminated together. Regardless, it is a fine ukulele, but the solid wood label is a bit misleading.

    • @Ukelikethepros
      @Ukelikethepros  Před 3 lety +1

      This is solid bamboo, it is not a laminate.

      @@Ukelikethepros Bro, I'm not casting aspersions your way. I'm sure you are telling us what Kala told you. But until I have an explanation of how a tube of wood can become a ukulele sound board I am going to remain skeptical.

    • @sharonlamanda4488
      @sharonlamanda4488 Před 3 lety +3

      Gluing pieces side by side does not make it a laminate. I have book matched pieces glued together for the back of my uke & it is solid wood. A laminate is when they glue pieces on top of one another

    • @DrRonaldSIpock
      @DrRonaldSIpock Před 3 lety

      @@sharonlamanda4488 fine. We just have different definitions of what 'solid' means. Two pieces of solid wood glued together is cool with me. But 200? That's like gluing popsicle sticks side by side and calling it a piece of solid birch. We all watched the video; it is a fine $150 uke. I'm not putting down. I just think calling it solid is a bit misleading.

    Bamboo is not wood, it's a grass. but let me find out if it has what it takes to be a good material for a Ukulele. l and if its good at resisting string tension. I am wondering would it be a good possible choice
