- Bamboo? Really? YES! BAMBOO! This NEW KALA SOLID BAMBOO CONCERT UKULELE KA-BMB-C that I just got at the store.ukeliket... is super cool!! In this ukulele review video I'll show you this unique instrument that I called "Blondie". A really affordable and all solid wood ukulele, but the best of all: Bamboo is the most eco-friendly wood choice for a ukulele.
Highly renewable, Bamboo regenerates quickly without being replanted. The many-layered, straight grain of the wood gives this collection a natural, earthy look. Bamboo provides a bright tone with great volume, harmonics, projection and sustain. The strength of bamboo makes for an extremely durable and resilient ukulele.
If you are looking for something different and cool, you should totally check this Kala here on the #1 Ukulele Online Shop: store.ukeliket...

That’s technically an ukulele made of grass. You played a grass ukulele
I bought this ukulele and don't regret a single bit. It is amazing
I have a Kala tenor bamboo and absolutely love it! Buying a concert for my wife. Thanks for spotlighting this great uke!
I love the look of this Uke. The streamlined bamboo looks super unique. Sounds nice too!
Yes! super cool
I have the tenor with low G string. Warm sound, clean and not twangy! Projection and sustains sound to no end ❤️👏 Easy to hold, heavier, solid and doesn’t slip around. I like the metal feel of the tuners. I also love the black accents with the blond.
Did you buy strings separately or the ukulele came with low G string??
Watching this video intrigued me so much about the concept of a bamboo 'ukulele that I knew I needed to buy one. It arrived today, safely I might add so kudos to the shipping department, and I couldn't wait to compare to my other concert uke, a mahogany Luna. The Kala is brighter and has a longer sustain. They're similar action-wise so playability doesn't suffer going between ukes. I -do- wish that black strings had been an option because the Aquilas are almost invisible against the body and fretboard. The fit and finish is wonderful. No separations to be found. I'm looking forward to many years with this uke!
Mahalo!
it's said that bamboo is extremely lightweight and highly elastic this is good news as far as string tension resists go. but unlike a lot of wood material you will not get those beautiful warm tone but as you once said in another of your videos - classic high pitch sounds. I love warm tones, but still bamboo is definitley a contender
I bought a second hand tenor Kala bamboo just recently, purely for the tonal qualities. I found it a bit too "jangly" so I stripped it down, fitted a passive undersaddle pick up and Worth brown, low g strings. What a transformation, such a warm sounding and loud instrument.!
Sounds fabulous. Would love to see a bamboo guitarlele from Kala - if they do that, just place my order. I’m in!
That would be cool
His hands during review 👈🤌🤏🤏👐👍✊👌👎👇👏👋👋🤘🤘✌🖕🖖🤞🤘🤌👉👍👈🤌🤌🤌🤌👈👏🤏👍👐✌🤞
Great video, i always wondered what the bamboo ukuleles sounded like and it sounds great, i bet that uke would last a lifetime 👍.
Sounds really good!
I think Luna made bamboo guitars too
#1 I love the fact that it is solid wood...even the bridge and neck. The sound is a little thin and higher pitched compared to another concert that I have. I am primarily a tenor player, but this one intrigues me. I have the opportunity to pick up a used one for $75 with case and stand so I will let you know more when I get to play it.
any update on your experience with this specific uke? thinking about getting it because it looks quality for the price and sounds nice and bright
Sounds great! KALA knows how to make ukes.
Looks really cool. Kala should make some stained darker and maybe a sunburst. They do it w bamboo flooring.
It has a very sweet voice.
I love it! If I didn’t just buy the flame maple 🍁 Enya, I’d be sorely tempted.
Plus, I still want to get a guitarlele.
It's really cool!!
Crikey I really like it! Now I’m probably going to have to buy me yet another Kala 👏🏻
haha go for it!
All solid grass ;)
Strips of bamboo properly flush-cut and glued together, to form a board, then cut again & finish so it looks like “solid wood”. Bamboo is a grass, it is not wood. But it is very strong: I have cut boards made from it, and dishwasher can’t break it. Can you put bamboo Uke to dishwasher to test? I am sure it will survive LOL ;)
I absolutely love these Ukes 💙👍
Wow that is an eye opener. That looks really profitable. As you've said bamboo grows fast.
The process in making in seems to involve glue or resin on thin flat bamboo strips then sanding the green skin off. Since it is grass it probably ages quick too after a month the tight sound will diminish. I hope it lasts long with varnish, I heard bamboo is susceptible to dust mites. But I think it is intended to last a shorter time so that buyers will have to buy more. Man. Why do I see money in it.
Not sure how I feel about that sound, even while using good headphones. Going to have to hear it in person.
Very cool and certainly intriguing especially from a sustainability point of view. Technically not wood, bamboo is a grass, either way it seems really cool. I would consider a Tenor...are you aware Terry that Aklot sells a quite similar looking product? Thanks again with all the best!
I own a casha bamboo tenor ukulele and I love the sound. It is very typical sounding
Just got it yesterday and I love it!
It’s charming and sounds really nice!
Totally!!
Are we being bamboozled? can we actually call this solid wood? Wouldn't a solid wood ukulele be the size of one's thumb nail? It seems that this is a laminate although all the pieces are bamboo as opposed to having different woods laminated together. Regardless, it is a fine ukulele, but the solid wood label is a bit misleading.
This is solid bamboo, it is not a laminate.
@@Ukelikethepros Bro, I'm not casting aspersions your way. I'm sure you are telling us what Kala told you. But until I have an explanation of how a tube of wood can become a ukulele sound board I am going to remain skeptical.
Gluing pieces side by side does not make it a laminate. I have book matched pieces glued together for the back of my uke & it is solid wood. A laminate is when they glue pieces on top of one another
@@sharonlamanda4488 fine. We just have different definitions of what 'solid' means. Two pieces of solid wood glued together is cool with me. But 200? That's like gluing popsicle sticks side by side and calling it a piece of solid birch. We all watched the video; it is a fine $150 uke. I'm not putting down. I just think calling it solid is a bit misleading.
@@DrRonaldSIpock Bro, they make wide plank flooring out of solid bamboo too. Sides of guitars don't grow bent, btw.
Sweet! Warm, nice high and lows.
Wouldn't we say it's all laminated bamboo rather than solid wood because laminated ply wood is also all wood, glued together? It's bright. Is that good? My spruce top is bright like this.
Bright is not good or bad, it just depends on what tone your looking for
I really like the looks of these…I played a concert and it felt perfect for me….but a little bright….the videos of the tenors I have heard sound a little bit warmer…I may get that tenor. I love to looks of it…I think I will make a good first ukulele!
First Comment!!!! Great video btw 👌
thanks!!
Interesting concept, but the sound is way to squeaky for me
Bamboo is not wood, it's a grass. but let me find out if it has what it takes to be a good material for a Ukulele. l and if its good at resisting string tension. I am wondering would it be a good possible choice
umm just made me think of something. If tenors are meant to produce warm tones and bamboo produce high pitch sounds. does one cancel the other out. not that I am looking a tenor, still just wondering. I am at your shop now, just seeing what you have (smile)
Sounds great.
Wow... I super love it..
Great sound, like the sustain
Sweet tone & a ton of sustain! Are they making it in tenor yet?
Yes they make tenors, store.ukelikethepros.com
Love the sound.
Love to have the tabs you play. Lot of coo stuff.
I have a particular craving for a slotted head-stock on Guitars & Ukeleles, is slotted head-stocks particular to nylon strings only???
I have 3 Kala’s. Love them. I had to have the action lowered on one. How’s the action on that? I have arthritis in the fingers. Any suggestions on pretty sounding, playable tenors?
So tempted. Is there an option to change to black strings if ordered through your store? Thanks!
I already have one ! Aloha Geno ps mines is a tenor!
Later its verrycool!ok later!
Looking for my first ukulele after playing guitar over 20 years…I don’t know a lot about ukulele tones…is the bamboo tenor too far from the traditional island ukulele sound or would it be a good first ukulele?is it too bright?
Would like the hear what the Kala baritone bamboo sounds like please
Hi! First of all, thank you so much for your amazing work! May I ask what uke would you recommend on a budget around €200? I want to buy one for my 8yo son and I’m interested in the best sounding one, with the best quality of craftsmanship and wood. Thank you so much!
The Kala Bamboo are great ukes for around that price point. I would also highly recommend the Kala/Uke Like The Pros model store.ukelikethepros.com/products/kala-uke-like-the-pros-ukulele-ssmhg-concert-starter-kit
I like it!
Will this Ukulele hold up in temperatures of around 115-120 degrees F?
Hi
I just can't make sense of how the made an ukulele out of bamboo
Haha me neither
Bambootree? Was that the word for the giveaway
I am not fan of that Bridge and it sounds little worse than other ukes i heard.
But it doesn't mean you've been bamboozled
I kinda like 'blonde' ukes. Looks sexy.
A tiny sound
Fan of the player, but not the uke. Sounds 'tinny' and 'treble-y' to me. Let's face it, TC could make a dustbin lid with strings sound good. Interesting concept, but I'll pass on that thanks...
