It's about what a person wants to identify as, and if Conchita wants to identify as female then she very well has the right to. I think it's brilliant that she won. Alexander Juffre A beard is just that, a beard. 100 years ago people would say that trousers are a component just of male identity, now many women wear trousers because it's not a component of anyone's gender, it's just that, trousers. By your logic a woman who doesn't shave her facial hair (and some women have noticeable facial hair due to a contrast between their skin colour and natural hair colour) is male, which isn't true at all.

It's his style. I'm completely pro Equality and support the LBGT crowd as well as I can, but even I am a bit thrown by the beard. However, for the same reason I don't rail against people who wear crocs, or men who wear pink shirts, or socks with their sandals, or women who wear pants 2 sizes too small and their belly overflows over the edge...I don't disparage this man for the way he chooses to present himself. It's HIS life, and he has to live it the best way he knows how. To hell with what everyone else thinks. He won Eurovision! Screw the bigots. I think this song definitely has shown a divide between the Western and Eastern sides of Europe going by the comment section. The song is definitely powerful and you can see it's filled by personal experience. This deserved to win.

Eastern Europe is based and proud of being white. Western Europe hates themselves for being white and has black singer representing them. Wild Heart When I was younger I used to love dressing up in my mothers and grandmothers jewellery, wearing their shoes and playing with their make up. I think that this song's point was Conchita's/Tom's life. In his childhood Tom Neuwrith really suffered from the other kids' attitude and he was going every day to the school toilets crying. The event that he is gay really destroyed his childhood because of the bullying he received from everyone. When he grew up, he created the persona of Conchita Wurst with new pride, new messages and brand new appearance. With this way, he ''rised'' from the ''ashes'' that were created in his childhood (I mean he couldn't stand the pressure in his childhood and the other kids' bullying turned him into ashes). That's my opinion for the meaning of the song :)

Why does having characteristics of one gender make someone of the opposite gender automatically ugly? Not every man is is born with a super-chiseled face or is 6 feet tall, and not every woman is born with high cheekbones and an hourglass figure. In fact, as someone who was born a woman, I'd like to ask... would you insult a biological woman with facial hair even though we grow it naturally? I am from Austria and I think every person should do whatever this person wants to do, as long as nobody else is harmed by that, which clearly is not the case with Conchita. I find it funny how everyone goes apeshit about her after Eurovision, which also contributes to her publicity.
Also, to the people complaining about "what this will do to the kids", I can tell you that the children here in Austria are able to realize that this is a show act and distinguish it from any kind of sexual meaning. And by that they show a greater intelligence than most of the commenters on this video.
i dont think an 8-10 y/o kid can realise any of this bullshit because kids are not able at that age thats why you have your parents. the problem comes when parents dont take enough care of their kids and let them watch trash like this. liberalism is going out of hand. this should have not been on tv that is for sure.
