  • Eyal Levi takes you on a guided tour of the raw multi-tracks for "Prayer Position" by Periphery, as seen in Nolly's Nail The Mix from 2016.
These Periphery multi-tracks are every bit as good as you would expect-- a few highlights:
    - Some truly sublime drum tracks courtesy of Matt Halpern. And note that (as far as we can recall) no drum samples were used in the final mix of this song. So if you are thinking about adding a bunch of drum samples to this one, consider instead watching Nolly's Nail The Mix and see how he got that tight, super punchy sound without samples!
    - Nolly's bass tracks come as DIs and amped tone
    - Spencer Sotelo's vocals have some processing done on the way in (recorded with the help of Taylor Larson), but there's still lots to work with
    - And of course, plenty of guitars to work with from Misha Mansoor, Jake Bowen and Mark Holcomb
    - Some fun extra stuff including a little Moog and viola

I want to take the opportunity to say periphery is literally the band that got me into audio. that was back in 2013 when my friend introduced me to P2 and I was blown away at the intricacies of the album. I was blown away by the vocals. It's now 2018 and i'm actually currently in school getting my cert for audio engineering. I can't thank these guys any more for just existing. They raise the bar so high for music.

Listening to all of these raw tracks, especially in the modern metalcore/ djent scene makes it even clearer that a great part of the work is made by clean, tight, flawlessly recorded tracks. Great lesson: there’s no way to build great stuff without solid foundations. It makes you appreciated even more all these talented musicians. Thanks for these great content!

I like how the guitar lead and synth have incredibly similar tones. I think that's what keeps them largely glued together.

It's crazy how there's really truly not much here. As amazing as this album is, I expected there to be like 60 tracks per song. These guys are absolute masters at making things sound perfect out of the gate and doing more with less. This song has such an expansive sound (as does the whole album), but it's done so simply and succinctly.
I say again, masters. Great video!!

Now that I bought it (and yes I spent the entire day watching all 8 hours straight) I'm so glad I did. I think it's cool to see someone get so excited about drum sound, as I don't see it very often. I knew there were lots of layers in their stuff, but hearing it all by itself is too cool. Hopefully some day I'll get my hands on these multitracks

watching how Misha approached guitar tracking, they are really tight even without note-by-note editing basis, though i still think they kinda did for more complex section (also Nolly talking about trying to sound as close to the MIDI track as possible, obviously with added flair).
