- After three and a half months, I went back to Spanish school to continue my study. After leaving Mexico, I went to Antigua, Guatemala. As usual, I will sharing my whole experience. Check out the timestamp as below:

For those who doesn't like homestay, you can check with your school if they have residence for students. It usually is a regular home with very simple furnitures.

How do you learn a new language? Do you go aboard?
No need to go abroad. Just find native speakers to be your friends and help them learn English.
Hace veinte años que yo estudio el español. Recientemente empecé un libro sobre la historia de Guatemala que contiene 700 (setecientos páginas) pages. Aprendí que en el principio después la independencia de España, había una propuesta que Guatemala se una una unión con El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua y Costa Rica como un país unificado.

I'm Mexican and I studied Spanish teaching for a couple of years, but I dropped out since it was only a personal interest (I have a second career). However I have always felt worried since I notice some people don't take their jobs seriously.
I watched your video about La Salle and I remembered that once I met an exchange student from Germany who was teaching there, just to make a little money. She had no idea about grammar and teaching, despite being native...
I found your channel because I wanted to hear experiences from HK people in Mexico, but I couldn't find so much... I love HK, once went there and it was lovely! ^^
Just a last comment: I think you spend too much on your living expenses, particularly the courses! I find it super high... I don't know much Spanish lessons for foreigners are, specially in Guatemala, but I have paid less than that in Europe (for learning German). I think it's because you're in a tourist spot.
Well, let me give a piece of advice: as you may know by now, you need a native speaker to talk to, BUT it has to be someone who knows grammar, syntaxis and morphology! Maybe it sounds hard to find, but believe, a cultured and educated person should be enough. Now, we're in quarantine all around the world, but you can still search online for language exchange partners.

Language teacher is just one types of jobs in here and most of them are not properly trained (actually lack of the skills of organzation and planning anyways). Many people who come here for a short time, they might find it fun. But I want to optimize the result and don't like those "teachers" to waste my time. So that's why I am not satisfied. I paid $5.5/hr in Antigua which teachers relied on 4 hrs of teaching a day to survive. After splitting up with the school, they get less than minimum wage. So I won't say it is too much. Those online professional teachers from Spain charge 300% to 400% more, so how much you paid in Europe per hour? Besides, everything in Guatemala (overall) is more expensive than in Mexico. The price of a roasted chicken and a box of almond milk is 50% and 25% more than in Mexico respectively. Besides, why a cultured and educated person would like to being paid cheap? At this moment, I am doing self-study, and I prefer to collect some questions then attend just one class for clarification. Every stage of learning is different. Teacher is just a guide to start. Self effort is more important. The living quality in Mexico is very competitive in many developed countries. By living in Guatemala, I realise that Mexico is very rich in terms of many things. Therefore, I don't have difficulties or cultural shock, as everywhere is different. So what kind of experiences you are looking for? I am organising some Spanish videos about differences between Latin America and Hong Kong, as well as introducing the food in Hong Kong. Tell me what you think what is interesting in Hong Kong.

I wonder if schools that charge more are better at teaching Spanish (more resources, better teachers).
In Guatemala, school resources are limited in general. Except you go to those schools which have international exams which require you to buy expensive books. But having more resources is not equal that you can receive better things as you can obtain information from the internet nowadays. Regarding teachers, everyone has his own strength and it also depends on what you want.
@@AdatheTraveler I have to think my seeking out the cheapest school, you end up with the teachers who are paid the least. Likely the schools that cost a little more employ the better teachers - i.e. the ones who can teach grammar:). thanks for your video!
@@tvstation8102 There are many Spanish teachers, as well as students in Antigua. So teachers are very used to teach grammar, especially in beginner's level. Till later, you know what you wanna learn more, then it's time to look for teachers who are more suitable for you.
