  • In this video I create miniature books, 6 different ways. This is based off feedback from a Facebook post to page - Haunted, Halloween, Off the Beaten Path Dollhouses, where I asked for ideas on how to create books and as this is for my library project, I needed ideas to create large volumes of books and fast! I have collated some of those ideas and added a couple of my own.

    I am extremely happy that this video showed up in my feed today. I have always Loved creating things especially out of nothing as my husband has said many times over the 34 years we've been together. I have loved dollhouses since I was a toddler and would play for hours with the one my eldest sister was given as a child many years before I joined the family. In a large family of 8 children our bond and relationship was even more special considering that she got married at 19. My love of crafting and dabbling in multiple art forms has helped me in my teaching career in every grade I was blessed to teach. My third graders studied the settlers and pioneers and their way of life and the things they had and made to help make life easier plus the essentials needed to survive. I created a 1 room log cabin. I built or created 95%of the items using materials from my crafting supplies along with a ruler Popsicle sticks, which became a bed,with the rope system that the "mattress" rested on and could be tightened as needed. A shelving unit to store kitchen essentials and dry goods. Fish tank rocks became a stone fireplace and chimney complete with movable swinging hooks to hang pot over the fire. I was pretty amazed at how it turned out and my students and my daughter loved it. I have two doll houses that have yet to be built and I have been getting inspiration from the many different creators and I hope we can start building soon. Thank you for sharing your talent and creativity with us.

    Dear Gina, I love ALL these techniques for making miniature books, especially the Etsy templates that you bought, I love how they're so easy to put together, and the books made with leather scraps and foam board. Thank you so much for this brilliant video tutorial. You've given me lots of ideas on how to make miniature books for the Book Nook I'm putting together at the moment. I decided to make it into a Victorian style library with books on one wall and a desk and chair with other accessories on the other side of it. Love from Amanda Jones in Melbourne, Australia ❤

    A great collection of ideas to of how to make books. I use the last technique, but I like the first one if the books are "just for Show". I like the subtle painting you did on them. They looked worned and used.

      @GinasMiniatureStudio  Před 2 lety +2

      Yes the last one was the most fun to create and one that has quite a bit of creative scope, I think I'll make a few more of those and see what I can come up with, but the first one is definitely the easiest.

    I like each of these techniques and can see a use for every one of them. I'm guessing though, that the style of book a person creates would have something to do with how many books need to be made. For instance, one person I watched today made a library book nook with over 700 books in it and each book was separate from the others.
    "katharina handmade" (her 2nd library) printed covers, cut them out, then carefully glued them over the edge of white board, wrapping the covers around from back to front. She lined up about 20 books on a strip making sure they were flat... then she let them dry. Next she cut along the edge of the book covers, separating that strip from the rest of the foam board... and then cut the books apart. The books didn't look too bad... and they would be glued to the shelves, so wouldn't be being scrutinized by anyone. It seemed like a good solution to her book nook library needs.

      Hi Ebba, you are absolutely right it all depends on how many books you need to make and if they are even going to be opened. I have seen the video you are referring to and I have used a similar approach to a 1:24 scale project which worked really well. It seems that you can never have enough books as they add great little details into any project.

      @@GinasMiniatureStudio I've made a few and really enjoyed it. I'll be making more for my projects... including making junk journals. Can you imagine coming across a teeny little book in a junk journal... that has some writing in it? I mean, anyone who got the journal would have to say "Awww", wouldn't they?

    I do 28 mm wargaming as well as Dungeons and Dragons. And while the books I make for my terrain is much smaller than dollhouse scale, I found your video to be very informative even though I've seen variations of every single one of these techniques done.
    Except that first one with the 'placeholders' made from a textured sheet of foamcore. I'm stealing that one, because having to make a bunch of tiny books for the library that's in my build queue is not my idea of fun lol.
    And since you gave me a technique I can use, I figure it's only fair I share one in return:
    You can mix paint with your mod podge to provide you base coat, as well as show you where you've already applied it. I got that one from Jeremy over at Black Magic Craft.

      Thank you for the tip, it's one of the best tips that I picked up from Jeremy at Black Magic Craft too. I also watch Table Top Time, Luke Towan, Squidmar, Gamey Builds and Studson Studios for some different inspiration. I'm not a gamer myself, but I love learning lots of different techniques that I can use in my projects, especially using every day items for miniatures, also Bill Making Stuff is good for that too, so many creative people out there. 😊

    Love the last one you did, when you painted the mod podge on before you painted the cover brown did you let the mod podge dry first?

    • @GinasMiniatureStudio
      @GinasMiniatureStudio  Před 6 měsíci

      Hey, yes I did let it dry, the reason I did the mod podge first was to seal the fabric so that the paint didn't absorb into it too much. Hope that helps.

      I've loved miniatures all my life and just started making miniature books too but I must admitt not on your scale.
      I respect the fact that if someone builds a library of a certain grandeur its got have a s..t load of books so well done u 👍👏 massive job but from what I've seen so far of your work its all part of the amazing detail that makes all the difference.
      Pinterest is great for free stuff haha, there's a lovely lady named Irene whose page is called Lady Miniac who has some great free downloads for some beautiful ol fashioned looking minis, im pretty sure those are 1-12 in scale and not sure what yours are but just download em smaller. Have a look her books are right up the same alley as Jamie n Claire's time.
      Thanku so much for replying hon im now going off to drool over your projects, I'll probably comment as I can't help myself and credit where its due. I might learn something too 🤣😃😉
