  • Wuhan Diary: Dispatches From A Quarantined City
When the coronavirus pandemic broke out in Wuhan, China, not many people understood what everyone went through. As the world watched from afar, Wuhan battled with the virus, leaving the people confused and discouraged. However, through the online diary started by Chinese writer Fang Fang, people outside Wuhan were able to understand how bad Wuhan citizens had it, especially those in the Hubei Province.
Fang Fang is the pen name of Wang Fang, a professional Chinese writer who won the Lu Xun Literary Prize in 2010. Her book “Wuhan Diary: Dispatches From A Quarantined City,” originally written in Chinese, was translated by Michael Berry. Michael Berry is a professor of contemporary Chinese cultural studies and the director of the Center for Chinese Studies at UCLA. Together, the two professionals have been able to bring the experiences of Wuhan’s people during the coronavirus lockdown to the world.
“Government officials need to understand the importance of being able to step up and accept blame for their mistakes before they even take office.” ~ Fang Fang
