Thanks guys. Really helpful. Sealing tape cost me £9 from my A&E leisure in Northwich, who were also very helpful. Had white spirit in my garage. Job took me around two hours. Cleaned roof light thoroughly while I had it removed.

I wouldn't of been very happy if I was paying for all that work, and they couldn't even be bothered to clean the roof light properly whilst it was out

    so lets get this right..
you put a sealing tape around the roof light but you don't meet the edges or corners up, clearly leaving gaps..
and this won't leak or allow water in ??
did i just watch one of the chuckle brothers at work..??

What a terrible job, not only didn't the sealant tape get a suitable fixing but it wouldn't have hurt to wash and clean the Heki components before refitting. That roof vent was minging.

I'm just doing the same repair to my motorhome, but I wouldn't have put it back in dirty like this. Mine is being taken apart, soaked in the bath, and cleaned properly.

So silicon around the top??? Not going to clean the thing while it's out. So much easier to clean at that point. Now the owner has to faff to clean it.

polyurethane sealant/adhesive works better i think, mastic is not so good in cold environments

Hi what was the name of the sealant you used in this video for the roof light ? Thanks

The main problem with these damn sklights seems to be that the plastic (my MPK is polypropylene) is resistant to bonding to sealant!
    Scandalous for the price.
I'm going to spray mine with plastic primer first.

You think he would have cleaned the roof light properly so it looked new and not with shit still on it.

Why not put it back the same way that is was before you took it out.
You turned it 90 degrees ? As others mentioned Clean a bit more and make sure tape meets in corners at the very least .
Glad I do all my own work like this

Vent refitted at wrong angle, look at handles. It will still work alright but I would have wanted it replaced as it came off.

According to MPK, "Rooflights must only be fitted with the operating handles facing
the front and rear of the vehicle, not across the vehicle." What's going on there then?

Bodge artist.. why would you not of cleaned the whole roof let alone the tin y bit you done around the skylight. this van was supposed to be in for updating and a spruce up.. he did not clean the fly screen he just wiped of a few flies ? that should of been put in soak to get the muck of it. the skylight itself was not clean, and to say a wipe cleans it is taking the piss. then he pulled down on the skylight and then pushed it back up because it was not right ???? why not do the job right and leave it. this just proved the mastic cheapo strip did NOT stick to the skylight or would of been hard to push up. he noticed water stains around the skylight opening, yet did NOT treat it ? bodge after bodge after bodge...I would never let him near my caravan thats for sure.. and I bet the bill was hilarious too.

Exactly what I thought. This is unprofessional work by any standards. I can't believe he didn't clean both surfaces so as to get a proper stick. The rooflight is manky, probably a health threat, but he doesn't seem to notice. I wouldn't let this guy clean my toilets!!
