The smallest of the MG ‘SVW’ range, the VA, or One and a Half Litre, to give it the full title, was first shown at the 1936 Motor Show. It was effectively the replacement for the previous N Series Magnette and was very much like a scaled down version of the recently introduced 2 Litre, or SA model. As with the larger model, the new VA was available as a saloon, drophead coupe, or a four-seat tourer. Powered by a twin carburettor version of the 1548cc Wolseley 12/48 engine, the VA was capable of 75 mph and with the windscreen folded flat, the tourer was found to achieve 81 mph when road tested by the press, who enthused over the impressive specification as well as the performance.
In total 2407 VA models were produced in the three coachwork styles, before production ceased with the outbreak of war.
Full details will be updated shortly.
