On the ivy wall covering ….just wait till the climbing parts of the plant start digging into your wall and once done the damage cannot be undone without taking out the wall and the ivy….just look at all the houses covered with ivy in the south , it degrades the brick and is quite invasive.

Yeah too right. Pulled down our wall and the amount of snails coming in our window on the second floor from the ivy was crazy. Im in DEVON.UK. looks pretty but destroys it's home.And ours.

My grandmother used to say driving an iron nail in the dirt beneath hydrangeas would change to color. I’ve no idea about the science but that woman had a pomegranate plant that grew as long as I knew her and could grow anything in an old coffee can.
She was ahead of her time really, she collected rainwater for the plants and had an old chest freezer in a shed that she’d filled with dirt and raised worms for garden and fishing. Lol.
I did this last year to my hydrangeas in the hopes of turning them blue!
You can determine they red or blue. I forget what you normally do but it does work.

I saw someone watering their plant with coca cola pop! It was a "plant hack" apparently. I've used coffee grounds, tea bags....but watering with pop seemed crazy to me. Some of these plant hack videos are ridiculous and just confuse new plant owners. So glad you do these videos to clear up some of the misinformation. You do have the best plant channel on youtube. 😊

Yea. Some of these 'hacks' are absolutely ridiculous, it's like the new generation enjoys trolling other people, and I dunno... Laugh their bellies off when people follow their hacks and created a mess and all their plants die? I don't get it ... 🤦🏻♀️
The only thing I'm gonna get from these hacks are gnats, more potatoes, more peppers, a rotten banana air un-freshener, and an avacado tree 🤣

People have been doing avocados that way for decades. It was even a joke on The Big Bang Theory but most of these are dumb and supported by faked video.
At minute sixteen, the peace lily, I believe that they just recorded the peace lily wilting, and then playing that backwards in order to show the peace lily revival.

I got a chuckle from the entire video but especially the aloe segment. I live in California and have aloes outside that are approximately 3 feet high that survive in dry clay type soil and have survived temperatures we had recently up to 115 degrees 🥵 I don’t need rotten bananas 😅

Speaking of South Africa, the one aloe relative that might be angle to handle the banana and all that thick, wet soil might be the red hot poker, or Kniphofia, which apparently grow in wet conditions above Cape Town? Like atop Drakensberg? Where it’s windy, foggy and rainy…hence why they do well in the UK/east USA.
I have done an avocado seed too, all I done was get wet kitchen roll wrap the pip up. Put it into a sealed sandwich bag and put it in a warm place. Change kitchen roll every week or two. I’ve done this about 5 time and they are now doing great. Just wanted to share another way of doing them. 😌

For the sponge one I'd be careful about using most commercial sponges as most of them have antibacterial agents that may damage the plant. The mirror hack is dangerous because it might burn something down

I liked the hanger hack. :-) I put small rocks in my pots. :-) And make sure the pot has drainage holes. Or use a gallon jar! :-) Hey, neat idea about the small pot with soil and magnet for fridge. OK.
I have done the cork one with fake cactus. The baking soda bubbling is because they put vinegar in first. The wall cactus you have to take down to water. I have done this with air ferns and misted works well

I did the tomato slice and started growing new tomato plants, and it worked quite well. Allowed me to choose the biggest and healthiest starters to grow. No problem with any kind of rot or mold, and no bugs. Try it.

All of the hacks with using the fruit to help the seeds grow would only be beneficial with the help of worms. If you do this in an outside/in the ground garden it would be fine. The issue is that these hacks are being advertised as useful for indoor plants. I agree, you would have a stinky mess with loads of fruit flies in your home.

I've def grown tomatoes with the flesh, cherry tomatoes work great… but that's cause the tomato ferments in the soil (fairly unique to toamtoes). And as you say it needs to be OUTDOORS to work properly!
I have planted a rose cutting into a potato before as someone told me it would work better.....to my surprise it did work. The idea behind it is that the rooting hormone (I used hardstem rooting hormone) does not wash off into the soil. It stays on the cutting as the potato isolates it from the soil, while the potato keeps the cutting moist. As I understood it, it is for planting the cutting directly into the flowerbed, not a pot. Also it must be a super fresh potato with no eyes. My mother grows rose cuttings with only rooting hormone and can even grow them from rosehip.....perhaps it would have work without the potato too.
Feel like it would have worked without the potato!
We need studies on effects of energy efficient smart sun UV restricting tinted windows on houseplants. Can we put the plants then in a southern window having such glass, are the plants harmed by these windows at regular distances, etc. No info anywhere on this. Help!

The hornworm hack made me giggle because of how sus it is - the hornworm was most definitely planted there. Hornworms feed on plants in the solanaceous family like tomatoes, potatoes, nightshade, etc, most of which are grown outdoors anyways. It's very rare to end up with a hornworm on your plant unless they're a common pest where you live so the fact that it was used as an example instead of say, fungus gnats, has me ultra confused.

I use coco, tea and my k cup coffee grounds ..re-used the cups for seeds and sprouted them in a covered container untill they sprout and ready for transplanting

The plant at 05:07 looks like a Schefflera (umbrellaplant). They usually start with three leaves and later on develop the umbrella formation.
If you want to add calcium to your plants, you can grind some egg shells and mix a small amount with the soil.

OMG the vinegar... for goodness sake, people need to think about what they're doing. I actually have glass kombucha bottles that I like to wash and drink water out of when I'm done drinking the kombucha, one day I had made a jar of lemonade and I have both the lemonade and the water beside me at the kitchen table, I glanced over at one of my huge begonias and realized it was needing a good drink. I actually took the bottle poured the lemon juice on the center of my plant as I realize that it was the lemonade lemonade and not the water... Yeah I killed out the center of my plant, luckily the outer leaves are all happy and taking over to make up for the bald spot. Can't say it's a good idea to use vinegar.
One that really bothered me was at 15:45 they didn't water the plant just so they could make a time lapse of it wilting, and then play it in reverse to make it look like it sprang back to life. I also find it wasteful when they're using whole fruit in the soil. It's like...just use the seeds and don't waste food lol

The last tomato hack reminds me of the time I left a tomato (outside the fridge to avoid it going mushy) for too long and eventually the seedlings just emerged from the skin. I suppose a tomato on it's own is already a pretty good nursery as it is nice and moist.

I use gardening/drainage lava rock in the bottom of my pots. It does that iron oxidation thing it does in my aquarium substrate. That's the healthiest soil in the house! Lol

The macramé hanger is fine except there's no saucer, the water would pour on your floor or you would have to take it down every time you want to water it. Even the ones that look good,have a major flaw😂 😂 😂😂

I didn't see where this was addressed . The "blue" caterpillar looks like a tomato hornworm, which is more green than this photo. It becomes an outdoor moth. The problem with picking them up is that they are HUGE, like 4 to 5 inches long.. Have never heard of one inside- and here in the southeast US, we have more than our share.

The point of most fruit from a plant is to provide a nutrient source for the initial seed to grow into as a young plant. A banana will provide nutrient through the breakdown of it's organic matter by the processes of decomposition, which include mycelial fungi (molds) breaking down the matter into nutrients that then become available to the plants through a symbiotic exchange of nutrients and carbohydrates.
If you make the succulent frame, place it flat on a newspaper or draining board to spray before repositioning.

I have better luck planting avocado seed in soil. I don't cover them, but bring soil only half way up. After sprouting a good trunk, I then cover the rest of the seed. I did the same w/ a mango seed, except I covered it to an inch or less from the top. Both grew great & were very pretty trees. Unfortunately, I forgot to bring them inside in time in the fall! 🙄

uh that egg calcium hack got me some idea tho. would be awesome to hear your thoughts on it. I use this for beaking breads for example. if you have egg shells laying around, you grab a mortar and get those eggshells down to a super fine powder you can then put into your dough to get some free minerals into your bread and since its a fine poweder you dont notice, eating eggshells either. you could put eggshell powder inside plant water too no?

I tried aloe vera, coffee and tea bag. Nothing sprouted. Instead molds grew and i have to change soil.

On the tomato slice. The Amish do this to save seeds over winter. You have to keep them in a moist dark place and forget about it. I don’t know If this would work in all areas. I thought I’d try this winter keeping it in the extra fridge. I’m also going to save and dry some from my favorite one but this looked easy peasy
To add though I did try this last year and nothing happened, the idea of putting in pot then sprouting. I’ve gotten tomatoes that had sprouting seeds inside that was cool. I also find if I have a tomato that got half ate by bird I just squish the rest in the tub or bed and I usually have new plants come spring. I’m also going to do this too. I’m lazy and want the easiest way

@@SheffieldMadePlants I know why: sugar for cut flowers is seen in the cut flower powder we give bouquets, along with citric acid and bleach as an antibacterial agent. They are solely used to preserve the bloom of the flower.
Sugar should never be added to a rooted plant as it won’t break down the way we would digest processed sugars. It will simply clog the roots and prevent the plant from absorbing water from the soil, unfortunately!
