My time at the mental hospital was traumatizing. Johnnie is so right in saying that all they do is keep you alive. I basically lied that I was better to be able to leave.

Omg I remember I refused to take the pills they gave me and then because I didn’t take it they kept me longer until I took them
My mom threatens to take me to one, all because I was just having a bad day and she's treating me like I was crazy.
That’s what everyone in mine had to do it was crazy
The one that I went to when I was 15 wouldn't let you go to the hospital cafeteria unless you were cleared by one of the physicians to do so, which took about a week on average. We were given old, expired, or moldy food in the meantime and I was force-fed food I was allergic to by nurses and staff.
That's just the tiniest tip of the iceberg, honestly, I could write an entire novel about the horrors I lived through in that damn place, and I didn't even get the worst of it.

while i dont know johnnie personally, and realistically never will, the kindness in his heart really shows and he really seems like such a good guy from all the content I've been seeing him in recently. wish you love and the best always, johnnie
I feel for him honestly. I hope he is able to continue doing what he likes but learning and realizing what his limits or boundaries are. He is hopefully in therapy, on medication etc. As someone with mental illness myself it sucks that people get judged for things they can't help, like you said. Thank you for always being non judgemental and having empathy, Johnnie. I love you and your content 🖤

in the ward i was in they actually did have giant needles that were used to sedate severely mentally ill patients that couldn't calm down, and the usual injection spot was in the butt so we would call it the booty juice

I live with a mental illness - it led me to work in mental health since I was 19 as an art therapist. I've supported family and friends with mental health problems through standing by their choice of creative outlet. Yes, mental illness is for life and the only way to get through it is with managing your state of mind with a healthy manner and that includes surrounding yourself with people who have your best interests at heart. Sadly, many don't have the right people around at times when they most need it. There is always hope. Funny thing, one time I visited a friend in a large city psyche ward for hours and as I went to leave she told the wardie at the door I was a patient trying to escape - coz she didn't want me to leave. It was so manic in their it took me another half an hour to clear me and get out of there.
I’ve been in a psych twice since I was 9 and we had tranquillisers, a quiet room and a de-escalation room where they lock you in for up to days at a time and sometimes we would have people literally against our rooms doors if someone kicked off aswell as other medications that calm you of put you to sleep. If you were a danger to others you’d have either a 121 or 221 and be separated from the other kids and if you were a danger to yourself you’d still have a 121 or 221 but usually not separated. What Johnnie said is so true about how they just keep you alive I mean I’ve been in that place for nearly two years and obviously grown up there since I was 9,10,11and 12 (my current age) and it’s surprising how badly you can be treated in those places

It’s weird how people can have such different experiences with mental hospitals. My experience wasn’t fun, but it wasn’t awful for me. My friend on the other hand, the way he described his experience sounded terrible. The worst thing that happened to me was there was this one girl who was really rude and inconsiderate of people. She always made me on edge because she’d walk behind me and randomly touch me. But I told the staff about it and they helped the situation. Her and another girl almost got into a fight also, but the staff broke it up and separated them. Anyway, all in all, it could’ve been way worse.
