Grew up in the '60s and early '70s, used to love going to Salisbury Beach. So sad that there are no longer any amusement rides at there. Used to be so many rides: roller coaster, ferris wheel, Hymolaya, the spinning tea cups, etc. I guess now, in our lawsuit-centric society, they'd be afraid some little kid would get injured and sue them. But how much fun, was it, to go to the beach, swim in the ocean, and then go on all the ride...oh, and eat a lot of cotton candy and pizza and junk food.
What a great video ... I remember the few times when I dared to go on the thing when i was younger... You could see the whole Atlantic Ocean from the top... That is if you dared to open your eyes. Even today if I sit on the beach late at night as the fog rolls in I can almost hear the sound that coaster made slowly crawling up the tracks and then the screams as it dcropped
How GREAT! The only image I can remember of the Wildcat was when I was a kid around 9 or 10 and I was sitting in the way back of my parents station wagon while riding to an aunts houses in Sailsbury. We drove past the Wildcat and even at that age I was mesmerized by wooden roller coasters so I remember looking out that window until it was completely out of view. I saw the Revere Beach Cyclone the same way. I really appreciate the post. Thought I would never see it running, thank you, Rob/Boston
Hello ,I was there tonight .around 4pm . I closed my eyes and remembered what it was like in the 60's. I remember the roller coaster so well. but was to young to go on it ,I loved the games all lined up above the ocean. the rides in the 60's and 70's were fun ..I was walking back to my car, next to the police station , "that walk way ," I said to my husband I wish we were walking back in time, oh so many times I walked the way. I miss the old days , they were fun .well mostly the good ones mom and dad were alive, grand parents
used to go there in the mid 80s .. they only had a few rides left and arcades .. was a nice place to go at night and eat and have fun up there. i guess its all gone now ........
You'd never, in a million years, choose to go back to those times voluntarily. You'd never give up your modern amenities or the advances in science that have come along.
I'm only 48 years old,I remember going when I was a kid.great memories. Now Salisbury's a sad looking beech...run 👇 down.... Instead of thinking of money Salisbury could have been so awesome
HAHAHAHAHA. I love when people don't get it, like you. "Instead of thinking of money..." This is what stupid people say when they have no other explanation for things that happen that THEY don't like. It's literally the dumbest comment you could make. Congrats.
Excellent video. I think if the city decided to build 2 more arcades and add about 15-20 rides, Salisbury beach may be able to get some of it's magic back.
Salisbury was so great, the roller coaster was too scary for me, but fun to watch those brave enough to ride it---it was exciting just to watch! The Himalaya was so much fun, with all the current great 70's summer hits playing loud...and the DJ's hyping the excitement, saying.. And NOW---we're going to go REAL REAL FAST....and at night with the lights flashing and the wailing siren!! It was really fun!!

This was the first big roller coaster I rode on in 1958. That first hill drop was breathtaking.
What a great video ...

Great childhood memories. Drove for hours just to get there. Would always look for the roller coaster as we got close. Sad that its gone.
