  • In this video I finally get to the paint on this Yamaha 175 Enduro. The paint is Yamaha Candy green a 1970 Yamaha color. Once the paint is completed I start the assembly of those parts and finish up the video with a start up of the bike. I have a few small things to finish up on this project and hope to do a ride before the snow flys.

      Hey Robert, not sure how much longer I will be able to. I will as long as I can, but there really do get to be a lot, and with about 350 emails a week. That takes away from shop time, and that is what everyone watches the channel for. I try to stay at one hour a day for emails and comments. But editing and uploading videos takes around 4 to 6 hours. So that basically cuts a little over a day out of my shop time a week. Yeah, right eat at home!! LOL you shouldn't have to worry about things like that. This place is a really well know and popular place across the USA. How's the Suzuki and Yamaha coming?

    Amazing how it started first kick! I heard faint rattling and was wondering what was up. Your explanation nails it and explains a lot of why I've heard so many sound that way. You bore to the precise dimension the manufacturer wants. Shops don't care, don't want call backs and take the easy way out. That's why I think your bores are the best I've seen!

    Wow!!! Never knew tanks had so many layers. Primer, sealer, stripe color, base silver, final color and then clear? Looks better than what I've seen so called "pros" do!! Well done!!! Painting looks complicated, but its on my list to learn.

    • @frankdillon6127
      @frankdillon6127 Před 11 měsíci +1

      yeah, Dale knows how to paint for sure, back in the day seems i would just patch,primer sand and spray. the guys that know, use sealers, and silver/sometimes gold under the base color sounds strange but it makes the colors pop, then the Clear coat to protect and shine the base paint. years ago to get the show quality shine it took 30 coats of hand rubbed paint to get the same shine that modern clear coat provides.

    • @montana2strokeracer
      @montana2strokeracer  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Hey Jim, yeah next time you sand one, just pay attention to the layers. You have to kind of reverse engineer the process in order to even get close to mixing paint. Thanks

    Excellent job once again Dale. A pro painter once told me to keep the trigger depressed when spraying back and forth. It keeps any nastiness from building up in the gun. It was really hard to get used to for a hack like me but it really cut down on inconsistencies in painting.

      Up the Air just a tad when your spraying the clear coat, It''ll really help smooth out the finish and cut back on the orange peel. When you watch the pros laying down the clear there is a tremendous amount of fog when theyre laying down the clear, a smaller tip gun helps with atomisation too. It just comes down to experience... and lots of expensive and time consuming mistakes @@montana2strokeracer

    Great job sir, I hope I will be as skilled as you someday. I’ll be repainting my ‘71 AT1-C tank again soon, it turned out terrible compared to your work and I got the whole color and size of the stripe wrong, but I just ordered all new correct enough paint, clearcoat and everything. So I’ll be painting it next week I think, but I also need to sort out some pin holes near the top of the tank, so I was thinking that some JB Weld will be fine, as I seen @Garage2Trail, do it on his ‘81 TS185.

    • @montana2strokeracer
      @montana2strokeracer  Před 2 měsíci

      Thank you, my friend, my painting is nowhere close to professional. I am self-taught and do a lot of stuff wrong. But most of the time I get it done. I just accept less than professional work. The hobby is all about having fun, if you get too serious about a run or some pin holes it just starts to be no fun anymore. But that being said.... that is how you learn. I would just pick up a small tube of spot puddy for the pin holes, you can get it at the hardware store for just a few bucks. I just have no experience with JB weld for that purpose, it may work fine.

      @@montana2strokeracerYour welcome, as I’m writing this I just put on a second coat of some white filler / sealer and it definitely doesn’t look perfect far from it, but it definitely looks presentable and good enough for me especially since I done it. But I just now seen your comment and I used the JB weld and it looks like it's gonna do a good job, very strong repair I reckon. But I would've used the spot putty if I seen your comment. The JB Weld is quite hard to sand down flat and i was worried about sanding the bare metal too much so I have an obvious bump on the tank but the main goal is so I can have a full tank of gas without it leaking.

I have had this paint for over 10 years, waiting for this project. As far as the other paints, if you want the codes, I used, I would be happy to give them to you. Just email me at dsweger@bresnan.net
      Really though you can use any pure white and silver base coats, and 2K clear coat with catalyst. Just keep everything urethane, I just go to my local paint store and look at their chip book. Believe me nothing I used is special and most I have had on the shelf for a very long time.

    bet your shop smells like the old motorcycle shops. the new stores dont smell like they used to ,or my nose is worn out. think old oil ,gas, grease and especially real rubber tires did the trick back then.

      I know exactly what your talking about, I wasn't even around back in the 70s, my uncle had a motorcycle collection and the smell of his house and shed was something else. When I go out in my shed now with his stuff and the old bikes the smell takes me back to going up to his place. I'm certain it is the smell of the rubber too, all the small rubbers aswell add up

      Hey Frank, it probably does, but for the most part since covid, my since of smell is off. But I can still smell the Klotz. By the way my wife says it stinks in my shop. Go figure.

      You get desensitised to the smell of the good stuff, grease oil fuel paint fumes etc. I can't smell anything in the garage/shed either, but my folks can@@montana2strokeracer
