My nearest decent arcade was up at the coast and I'd visit every Saturday, the hot Summer day when I walked in and the sit-down cabinet of Outrun was sitting in pride of place in front of the doors I was blown away. There was a queue to get on, and I went around about 5 times. Magic.
Top quality, as usual. I remember playing the old Outrun on my Pentium 100 back in the day. It was dream like. But I also played it off Yakuza and the 3DS version. I confirm, the 3DS version has the edge for me!!
Thanks Lucian! It was the same for me with Shenmue II Xbox, I couldn't believe how awesome it was to play the arcade version at last. And yes!! The 3DS version rocks.
Excellent overview of all the arcade accurate home console and handheld ports. Too bad a follow-up covering Turbo Outrun wouldn't be nearly as interesting, with only the 3DS in Japan actually getting a faithful port.
