    I think its important to promote our Cotton. I even buy Kenyan cotton here in Europe. But I would prefer the Mitumba business to be left alone to continue with their business. If Mitumba businesses was closed, 80 per cent of Kenyans would go naked & millions of kenyans families would sleep hungry.

    • @uncutit1995
      @uncutit1995 Před 2 lety +7

      It's not a matter of voting wisely we should learn to first make use of our locally available resources to ease the burden of overly depending on resources that are to some extent out of our reach. For example when COVID-19 hit the country mitumba was one of the sectors that was suctioned and many people lost their only source of livelihood, if only we had an alternative to produce the same within our country the effect wouldn't have been that bad.

    • @vincentmuema18
      @vincentmuema18 Před 2 lety +3

      but the sad truth is that mitumba are second hand clothes donated actually it should not be sold. and one important thing we kenyans we need to support our own we need construction of more local companies to produce good clothes ndo pia tuvae nguo zetu made in kenya and that will create more employment imagine from farmers to factories/industries to retail. how many jobs will be created? usilete siasa kwa maendelo be open minded and think it through and utaona the benefit. a country should not be depended on other countries in extend that incase of anything the same country suffers. look how Europe will suffer kwa gas because their gas 40% comes from Russia. lets be positive and we see the future

    Of all the problems in the country, mitumba is the least of them. Reviving the textile industry is a great idea. But this can only be done in a thoughtful way and not by political soundbites. When it comes to manifestos, it is important to speak clearly. The emphasis should just have been on reviving the textile industry as a source of creating jobs. Truth be told, mitumba business is not going anywhere anytime soon. Also, in the United States and Europe, people also wear mitumba. There are a lot of used clothing stores set up by charitable organizations that get clothing donations. They sell these to raise cash for their giving pledges. Whatever is left over, is what makes its way to places like Kenya.
    There are other ways of squeezing out the mitumba business without rattling the masses. If economic growth is achieved through cutting down on corruption, growing all manner of other industries so people can get good jobs, mitumba will fade away. All of this will require thoughtful leadership. Soundbites will not do it !

    Let's get candid. The mitumba business was not started to provide cheap clothes to low income Kenyans or to create employment. No, it was a disposal avenue for used clothes in developed countries and a few Kenyans took it as business, which resulted to the collapse of Kenyan textile industry. Honestly, Kenyans are NOT second hand people and it wont be hurting to dress up in new clothes. Again, how many Kenyans benefit from the mitumba industry except a handful who imports and trades. The re-awakening of the Kenyan industry has ten-fold benefit, starting with the traders whose businesses will not be affected by global instabilities such as the recent covid 19. The re-awakening Kenyan textile will not only brings pride to Kenyans who will be putting on new clothes (designer clothes) but it will create diverse employment opportunities along the textile value chain....e.g. farmers, agro-industries, local designers (great but masked by mutumba clothes), traders among others. Mutumba traders should be CELEBRATING, it will be a boom to their clothe trade (have advantage of experience in the trade). Ama mnataka tu kuvaa nguo mpya kutoka Asia and Middle east....ama second hand from America and Europe...We are better than this and deserve BETTER.

    We Kenyans are just putting on mitumba because we don't have alternatives mtumba are very bad clothes, remember when the government barned plastic bags very many people were surviving on them then but the government provided the alternative environment friendly now no more cry, the textile industry will employ very many people, including hundreds of thousand cotton farmers, sisal farmers, sheep🐑 for wools and domestic animals for hides and skins, transporters including drivers and brokers, the textile industry will require workforce including tailors and designers, my friends I can't explain this further bcs it's self explanatory very many people will benefit
