    • @SudeennnSam
      @SudeennnSam Před 5 lety +3

      CNVQ take away the spoiler and replace the rims, you wont be able to tell the difference between a regular Caprice & Impala SS. Thats why its a sleeper. Its an unassuming sedan with higher horsepower that people can mistake it for a regular grandpa Caprice.
      And no. The term ‘sleeper cars’ doesn’t necessarily belong on 400HP vehicles only. This was 1995, when 250HP on a sedan was considered big numbers, and 400HP was still considered supercar territory. Even the 1998 Subaru Impreza 22B had 276HP. So, if you’re saying this Impala is not a sleeper because it only makes 260HP, then your argument is invalid

    The LT1 and derivative were among the last 350’s that made the “heartbeat” sound. I understand the later cars are more desirable, because of updates, but knowing my way around these cars, I believe the overall highest quality ones were the first model year. By 96 you were hearing about pretty serious quality issues, especially with the interior trim, power windows etc. Not that any of this would stop me from buying another one. My last one was an early 95 in black, which I took to Mexico and got a custom leather headliner installed in. The guy I sold it to put a T56 manual transmission in it, and built a TPI 383 for it.
    I Can. Not. Believe. that my 2017 CX-9 is heavier than this car.

I did 3.73 with limited slip, but wish I'd gone with 4.10 gears instead. I've got the Impala wheels on it with the wide tires, and it still chirps them when going into 2nd at WOT sometimes! Gears are the biggest bang for your buck mod for these, and really wake them up! You'll need to have the ECU reprogrammed because the speedo and shift points will be off, but it's well worth the laugh you'll have the first time you accidentally break the rear end loose and get sideways under what you used to consider mild acceleration with the stock gears.

    1. ALL of them ( 3 yr. production) ran HOT.Notice the temp gauge almost red lining. Unusual to design an engine to red line hot. Turn on the AC and it'll kick start the fans and lower the temp dramatically .
    2. Voltage regulator may begin to dance erratically as if there is a loose ground on many SSs. It is not. It is the 2nd + battery terminal that is made of aluminium located near the fuse box under the hood upper right. Replace it and problem disappears.

    Amazing sedan with a corvette engine. Thats the one thing I like about GM cars. You can put a LS small block V8 in any vehicle other than the Corvette. Plus this was the last RWD Impala before they went the FWD in the 2000s. Chevy should keep the SS brand going.
