  • Which country is more liveable? Who has better education or better employment? Which country is healthier or safer?
I have family in both America and Canada, and today I thought it would be fun to objectively compared America and Canada to see which country is more liveable.
So in this video we objectively compared America to Canada to answer the question: "Which country is more liveable?"
While these countries share a massive 5500-mile border and a common language there are many distinct differences that effect the livability of these nations.

Good video in general. However the comparison of top universities is just naive. Canada has a population about ten times smaller than the US. Of course the number of top universities will be proportional to that. So the 41 to 3 top universities comparison, if you adjust for population would look more like 4 to 3 for the US. Also all of Canada's universities have very affordable tuition fees where as pretty much all the top universities in the US are very expansive. So in a way, the top universities in Canada are much more accessible to the general population than their American counterparts.

I tip my hat to you for not saying random shit that make's no sense. You're close to correct on that though. Because of the small population we don't necessarily need that many schools to hemorrhage federal budgets on, the majority of these schools both in Canada and the US are usually filled with out of country students which actually pays for alot of the facilities, including investors and institution researchers. We do outrank the US with one of our schools which is UBC and very very expensive school to boot. We have alot of community colleges though with is cause for "our cheap tuition" But for UVIC and UBC they're just as expensive as the institutions there. I grew up in the UK where the education is stupid high and stupid expensive, we only attend "high school" for three years (up to grade 10) then we take was is essentially college grade school, then finally college.

I would be honestly concerned more about what they're learning in school and the inefficient methods of learning that are being taught anymore (look at the way they are made to do math for example), rather than simply getting into school or not. Though America's having many issues with quality of education, so it's still very problematic here, but I haven't seen it hard to get into school here at all (unless we're talking private schooling).
Homeschooling while more challenging at first, will typically be less challenging in the long run as the kids tend to learn a lot more useful things and be more respectful caring conscientious people (which also enormously impacts the quality and security of a Nation).

And now that I'm going to have 2 kids to worry about sending off to school, idk what I'm going to do. Nowhere feels safe anymore, and it's extremely sad that I have to think about if I'll be seeing my small child at the end of the day each day as there's no guarantee anymore. I used to joke about moving to Canada and never thought I actually would, but now I'm really considering it.
I have a friend in Canada who's younger sister got expelled from her school, taken to court, and then sent to a juvenile detention school just because she had cyber bullied sime girl. My friend explained that in Canada (or maybe just her province, i don't remember) bullying is illegal and treated very seriously. This alone just makes me feel a whole lot safer about my kids well-being.

Loved the video but think it missed a key component. Having universal health care paid through our taxes doesn't just give us good health care. It creates a fundamental difference in individual and societal mindset. In Canada we worry about our health and that of our children and parents but we don't worry about the actual health care costs. I've never met a Canadian who even thinks "how will I pay for that surgery" or fears bankruptcy when older if something happens. It's simply not part of our mindset. Yet I have talked to many American friends who say it is constantly something in their mindset. Does their job provide health care insurance and will it do so after retirement? Do they have enough in savings to get them through a major surgery? As a father, if I had to constantly worry about my health or that of my partner and certainly of our children then my outlook on life overall would be very, very different. A few examples: A friend who is a New York lawyer says she often wonders if she could lose her house someday if she had a serious medical problem. A birding friend in New Orleans tried to wait until she was 65 to have a hip replacement as her retirement benefits would cover it. But it was too painful so she had it done at age 64 for a cost of over $60,000. And oddly I met a retired couple once who said they hated Canada's socialized medicine. After saying this, the man, well into his retirement, said he had taken on a job as a security guard solely to access the health benefits of the job for himself and his wife. I thought it was so bizarre. This man who should be enjoying the last years of his life had to work for health benefits but at the same time thought universal health care was unacceptable.

Something tells me you have never lived in Canada. It is easy to see a doctor call up your GP just like in the states, if you do not have one there is a government phone number you can call and you will have an appointment by the end of the day for sometime next week. The only problem is specialists and even then it is almost entirely elective or non critical conditions that have the wait times. If you are in serious danger of dying you go to the top of the list and see him immediately. If something came back on your test that is probably nothing but should be looked into you will see him in a couple of months. And if you want plastic surgery they will pencil you in for next year, unless again it is something urgent like burns.
Now don't get me wrong there are some busy hospital emergency rooms but that is also true down in the US and sometimes individuals fall through the cracks but compare that to what happens in the US if your insurance runs out.

    • @brice7649

It is true I have never lived in Canada but I would be willing to bet most of the people on here commenting about how horrible the healthcare system is have never lived in the U.S either. There is a lot of speculation on both sides. I think Canada is awesome is many many ways but it usually has to do with the people and health care never comes to mind for me. If canadians are happy with it that's great but it could never work in the U.S, the population is to large and the problems that do arise in Canadian health care (because there are problems with it, nothing is perfect) would be magnified Many times over simply because of the shear size of our population. I love you Canada, you are good people but I love my country and wouldn't live anywhere else. God bless Canada and God bless the United states of America.

But, one time I went because I was peeing blood. They took care of me immediatly and went to a specialist right away. The problem with our emergencies, is people using it for small things since its free. I saw some french (from France) co-workers told me they went to the hospital for a cold and complained for waiting more than 12hrs. Thats the kind of problem we have. Not so great if you are poor; your freedoms and access to these things would be greatly restricted. Canada on the other hand is more of a social "equalizer" where the gap between the rich and the poor is not so obvious and good standard of living is more spread out among greater number of people. Every single person's well being is our good fortune not just for the fortunate few.

JustTech 2 words, “American Exceptionalism”. I prefer to live in the USA, the only country ever considered to be the last best hope for planet earth. The only country with enough moral accountability to God to defend freedom and promote liberty across the globe. As the first pilgrims said, a shining city on a hill acting as a beacon to all.

Reading the comments makes me kind of sad about the hate on the USA. I live in Michigan but our family is from Canada. America has its issues but so do many countries, they will get through it. People forget that there are still so many worse places to live, places where women don’t have freedoms, where the people don’t have access to vaccines or even clean water. I still feel fortunate to live in America

America! Why use that word? Canada is in America as is Mexico. It is a continent, not a country. USA is the name.
