Lauren, I would recommend using the thin-flocked hangers, vacuum-seal bags for out-of-season clothing and maybe a shoebag on the inside of your closet door for your most-used shoes. Those have helped me alot!

99% percent of us here have too much “ stuff”. We actually wear only about 10 or less outfits through the year ( I was shocked to learn that from professional organizers) The key to an organized closet is first to stop buying, buy the best you can afford and only buy what will coordinate with other pieces. I did this about 5 years ago and it made my closet stress go way down not to mention the ease on my budget!😁. Lauren, I can only imagine your heart rate when you discovered a living furry in your closet!🤪. Great video and yummy recipe!🇨🇦

Hi Lauren ~ I tend to purchase expensive clothing so when I do a closet clean-out, I invite family and friends to come over to take a look and see what they like ~ it’s fun since they try the clothes on and we are all analyzing how it looks on each person. Whatever remains, I donate all of it. There are excellent charities that provide clothing to women in Shelters and those who need nice clothing for Interviews, etc. This process is a win-win for everyone! 👏🏻👏🏻

Hi Lauren I use thred up a lot since I do. It have tie to take pictures and post the items. You order a clean out kit they mail the bag to you and you fill it and mail it back to them. They take care of the posting and you make the payout price they decide. Great for busy moms who don’t have time to post for themselves. They do take a while to post but once they process your bag they let you know and you get notified when an item sells. You can then use the money you make to buy items off the site or you can have it transferred to your account associates to your profile. I love it and hope this helps!!!

I do have a beautiful closet but waited a very long time for it. My tops are all on one side, color coordinated from sleeveless to long sleeved. With all of my pants above in same color coordination. I have a 2 tiered area for all of my sweaters, again all color coordinated. Then there is a 2 tier section for my jackets on top and skirts below and my last section is for all of my dresses color coordinated from strapless to long sleeved. I have 5 huges shelves for all of my shoes and they are all coordinated by type and color. I am truly blessed! Oh I also designed my hamper and underwear and jewelry drawer into this system, so everything is in one place and our suitcases are overhead along with our winter/summer/spring bed coverings & pillows. Love being so organized as it makes life so much simpler.

I do have a walk in closet, shared with the hubs, we each have our own side...it isn't huge,....but there is room for us to each have an Ikea 4 drawer dresser, and we each have long and short hanging space... there is a chair and a window in there...plus I have an Ikea bookshelf in there with bins from the dollar store, for things like hats, scarves, mitts, summer hats, purses...and a whole shelf for my cycling gear... not pretty, but completely practical and organized. We have each have laundry sorting bins as well....

I do have a nice size walk in closet that is used 80% by me and 20% by my husband and I still declutter twice a year (my stuff and his stuff). It can be emotional, but if you know you aren't ever going to wear something get rid of it. If you have some clothes you really can't get rid of, put them in one of those vacuum seal bags and store it somewhere. I give myself a strict count of no more than 9 pairs shoes (not including my snow boots and gym sandals), its hard, but like you said you really only wear 3 pairs so at least store the ones you know you won't wear. I am heading to Ireland in a few months and that athletic wear looks super cute. I may try and find them when I'm in Dublin if they have a store. Love that they have XXL sizes.

We just moved last summer and I got a big closet with our new house. My own closet too. I don’t have to share with my husband anymore. But I put all my winter items in a tote that can go under the bed. And on the top shelf of my closet are my sweaters and jeans. The only thing I have to keep our year round are my dresses and coats. So yeah its nice to have a bigger closet and I try to not get it too cluttered just because it’s bigger now.

I love cleaning videos, they always motivate me to get cleaning and organizing. ( I have you on now while I'm cleaning) I love the chatty videos, it's like having a friend with you while you are cleaning, and of course music is a must. When I"m cleaning the pantry or clothes closets I have to pull everything out, it just makes it easier to see what you have and for me in the pantry, I check the dates of things to make sure they are not out dated, and in the closet, well if I haven't worn it in a year, it goes out of the closet. Thank you for the inspiration this morning !!

I have found it VERY helpful to roll them and put them in large zip lock bags and store the bags in labeled stackable crates in my garage storage. I always lived in apartments and they had small closets, so I was constantly decluttering. I would pull everything out like you did. I didn't have much as a kid but when I started working I did buy more clothes and shoes, etc. Than needed. But five years ago bought my first home, now I have two walk in closets. One I put my spring/summer clothes. The other fall/winter. Love, I need to reorganize and donate. I always donate but I've thought about selling on the web sites you mentioned. It feels fantastic to clean and organize. Have a blessed week. Love your dog, I laugh how he stays in bed under covers. I do switch out bedding from winter to summer. Sorry this is long. God bless.

My closet space is tight too but one thing has helped are those hangars that hold 5 or 6 tops or pants and then collapse to save space. Could add another bar above the ones in your closets to double your hanging space?

Hello Lauren, I love this video so much. I'm fortunate enough that we had 2 guest rooms after our daughter moved away, so I made one of them into my giant walk-in closet/makeup room. I had built ins added to one wall with shoe shelves and clothes racks.
As for decluttering my clothes and shoes, I do it at least every 3 months and I immediately bag up everything and take it to Goodwill. I want it out of my house and out of my sight. I know that I could probably make money from selling it, but honestly I just don't want to mess with it. Just bag it, donate it, gone! Voila. It's better for my OCD. Lol
Quick question: how in the world do you get up on your bed? It's so tall. It's above your waist. Lol. I'm only 5'5", so I would probably need a step stool. Lol
Anyway, I absolutely LOVE your videos. XOXO'S

Lauren, I do the same exact thing. If I can’t see everything that needs attention I can’t process what I need to purge. I just did this last week. We have a community yard sale each September and I save all the items I’m not going to use anymore and do my best to sell what I can and then donate the leftovers. My Talbots tee’s become faded and don’t look so fresh after about 2 years so they go and probably a few sweaters. In the summer I take the overstuffed comforter off and just use a lightweight blanket and quilt made of 100% cotton.

Hello to Enzo, Chewie, and Fortuna! Please forgive any spelling error! I love to watch cleaning, organizing and cooking videos, especially yours! I have a ton of clothes, shoes and purses. I realized today after watching you, that perhaps it is for the same reason. When I was young, I didn’t have much…my parents worked very hard to give us nice things, but back in the 50’s and 60’s, no one had much around where I grew up. I never felt out of place or that I needed anything. When I grew up, went to college, became a teacher, had children and my husband and I were ok, we built a home. As an educator, I felt I needed to portray a professional attitude. So clothes, shoes, hair, jewelry and makeup were my “thing”. Did I need those things to be a great teacher? No. But somewhere I felt it all gave me confidence, built my self esteem, and made me feel good. ( I’ve struggled with self esteem for as long as I can remember) I never struggled when I taught. It was my super power. Now, after being retired for 9 years, I continue to need to look pulled together. Especially as I age, go through medical issues, and emotional struggles, I tend to gravitate toward purchasing items to fulfill an emptiness. Wise? Absolutely not! I cleanse my closets twice a year, and give away almost new items. My friends love my give always, and look forward to each one. They wear my clothes with pride which makes me feel wonderful. Should I sell my things? Probably. But, giving to friends is something I enjoy doing. I am a sale shopper. I look for bargains everywhere. I never feel badly about buying as I know when I am finished wearing my treasures, they will be enjoyed by others. Due to my big back surgery, I’ve been unable to clear out for the winter/spring change over. I am beginning to get overwhelmed. Watching you, I thought…I can do this! So, this week, I will begin. A little each day. I, too, like to pull everything out. Throw it on the bed, and then either give away or put away. When I redid my kitchen, I even drew flow charts to determine my direction to accomplish my organization. Lol. Your soup looked interesting. I’m not sure that it would be on my list of food, but someday I may surprise myself. As you said, use what you like. So, thank you, Lauren! Hoping you’re having a wonderful vacation! Looking forward to your next video!

I do like to change my comforter/sheets seasonally. I either save the zipper bags they come in or have put them in a plastic container. I didn't have many clothes growing up so probably have more than I should but will only keep what I have room for. If it doesn't fit in my closet or chest of drawers then something has to go! I also store my shoes/ sandals & boots in bins in my closet and have a shoe rack out in my bedroom for daily use. I usually have some music or the radio on when cleaning. I wouldn't get much accomplished if I had my TV or pc on..;>( Thanks for being such an inspiration Lauren:>)

Actually you have a fair amount of closet space and you can technically walk in them you just have a lot of stuff. If you paired back the shoes alone you could maximize the storage area on the floor with vacuum sealed bags for out of season clothes and use low shelving built in on the floor and have more space.

I turned a spare bedroom into my closet/dressing room and I still rotate my summer and winter clothes out.
I’m clearly a clothes hoarder as well 😂 love your videos!!

Hi Lauren, Enzo, and Chewy! I love your cleaning vids because I wish I had a home I could keep the way I want. I share with two other people and that's a whole other story! My closet space is very small because I cannot get all my clothes in there. My attic served as closet space and that's what I work with for now. I give my clothes to the mission at our church(after family has rummaged through them) instead of selling. I was going to do Mercari but I didn't think I would have the time. I love your vids and seeing what you're cooking. It's always motivating watching how you seem to make cleaning up a cinch. Thanks for sharing!

I recently retired and immediately went through and donated all of my work clothes that I knew I would not be wearing again. They were business professional style and very classic pieces that I could have easily sold on consignment however to be honest,I really just couldn’t have been bothered. I don’t have a large closet however we are empty nesters so I have the luxury of using spare bedrooms to keep seasonal clothes.

OMG, Enzo. So glad it wasn’t a spider or snake. A cute kitty is much better. If only the whole closet organization went as quickly as the sped up version 😆. Oddly my kids each have giant walk in closets but my husband & I each have a “normal” closet w/ bifold doors & they are poorly designed (by a man) at that. I know the bigger my closet though the more I would just add. So I have to rotate out summer & winter. Rubbermaids in a room built in the garage. Giant pain. I tried several resale sites but honestly the work/reward ratio was just not worth it so I just donate everything. It has never occurred to me to make my own Pho. Yours looked restaurant perfect!!

I cleaned out my closet about 6 months ago. I did the same thing you did. I took everything out, cleaned the closet and put back 1 thing at a time. I got rid of so much. Now when I put on something and I don’t like how it looks on me I make a little pile. I give it to my cleaning lady or take it to goodwill. I work in a hospital and use uniforms so I really don’t need a lot of clothes but I have too much. Oh my closet is not huge and velvet hanger’s allows you to maximize the space and you can hang more clothes.

Hey there Lauren its Cathy from Nashville,It looks like you could add some shelfs in that one closet. Also the Dollar Tree has these amazing bags that you put your clothes in and use the vacum to suction the bag flat.I use these every transition let me tell you they are fantastic.Im able to put my items under my bed and my clothing is protected.EZPZ DOLLAR TREE.And I as well pull out everything into an area and then redecorate. My granddaughters room is a mess right now and I am not even looking forward to the project but its got to be done.Im putting away certain toys that she played with alot to save for her,Im selling the rest because Ive spent a small fortune on toys never being able to say no lol.She takes great care of her items so hopefully I can get some money back. There is an apartment complex that recently caught fire and alot of families lost everything so I will be donating to that as well.Blessings to you♡

I need to clean my closet too....I don’t wear lots of things that I used too. I wish I could get to the point where I used the French 11 item wardrobe! Quality not quantity. I always think I better keep this in case I don’t have the money to buy something in the future. As always Lauren such an inspiring video and love the soup recipe ♥️🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸

I have a small closet, so I do rotate my clothes. Now that I'm retired, I have been minimizing my clothes and jewelry. Your closets look 👍
