As a Detroiter it’s not what people think. Happy you enjoyed your stay. Far as crime I feel the 90s and early 00s was bad. Because I got robbed. Now is way better just don’t go to odd looking neighborhoods at night.

I lived in Canada and the USA for alm ost 20 years and I've never been to Detroit or even to Michigan at all. A giant hole in my "north coast" itinerary!
I know that this was sponored was "VisitUSA", and I heartily suggest a trip to Cleveland, Chicago and Milwaukee as other destinations on the "north coast", but I hope that someday you will also visit my former home, Canada!

I'm glad you were safe out there. Detroit's got a horrible reputation with its crime rate alone, but I didn't let that stop me from making a visit that city on my own in 2019. I've got relatives in that city too. I strictly stayed in the downtown part when I last visited where an event called the River Days was taking place during the 3rd weekend of June.
i grew up about 2 1/2 miles from downtown in the 70's and early 80's.
I would LOVE to know where your gold flower earrings are from on the day you visited the Motown museum?
I hope you visited more than just Detroit while in the state.

Minneapolis is further north than Detroit :) the Canadian border is not a straight line & the part of Canada you were pointing to fits in the gap between Michigan & New York :)
