Funny to think, a little over 10 years later and there's an electric mini that you can buy that doesn't look too dissimilar from this car!
great video Jay!!
I would not hesitate in investing in an electric motorbike. Thank you Mr. Leno for the great review. All your reviews are excellent. God Bless.
mini coopers are awesome fun :)
Not only informative, but very entertaining.
This could be shown on a color tv from 1985 ! Ii would still love this
We just got our 2023 Mini Cooper se. Love it !
love that noise these cars make
i love how Jay is the one teaching them :D
This MINI-E was built by ACPropulsion. They also inspired Tesla when Elaon saw and drove the MINI-E. Tesla still uses the AC controller and 18650 battery deisgn. They also have the new 2170 batteries but the same liquid cooled battery setup. This MINI-E is better than most electrics made today in 2018. It even has V2G Vehicle To GRID and they are used at the UNIV of Delaware today and for the ;last 10 years.
I love your web site.
Very good video Jay !
Please do more Electric cars video testing !
Thanks !
haha, i love how you did the peace in reverse to the guys who where driving by at 8:24 in the video ^^
a lot of americans don't know what that means over here in europe. don't do the peace sign with the back of your hand to the other person in europe, especially not in the UK, over here it means basically the same as f*** off ;) or like giving them the finger, haha
great video as always! shame they never sold these. i think bmw could have made a lot of money on them, but i guess they were the trial stage for the i3 and by all accounts and roadtests that seems to be a pretty good car (but i would have preferred the mini styling over the somewhat look-at-me looks of the i3, even though it starts to grow on me)
Jay I love the fact that u put all kinds of cars on this channel. But probably my favourite is the Mercedes what I would do for that car.
jay please make video about the VW T2 i have one and would love to know how you are thinking and know about it
Love Jay's disappointed "waw"at 4.23
Classic stuff :D
What is the 138 on the side scuttle for?
Amen to that.
Hopefully they bring it back
Was that some road rage from Jay at 8.25? A good two finger salute ;)
Happy birthday!!
nice stuff mr Leno, i for one hope you wil make a car show ... maybe one that lets the audience have a chance of winning a car or something...
Jay is so cool :D
Does anyone know how much it would cost to get it to a full change in comparison to say filling up a full tank for the mini?
I really want an electric car for daily commuting. And keep my BMW for the weekends. 0 gas and 0 emissions sounds so good.
2008 2009ish, Jay has had a website for a while now and they are just now uploading the old vids from the site onto youtube.
yes
whats up with some vids being in 360p? takes so much from the watching experience.
Yes the mini looks impressive , how long do the batteries last, and how much of a cost are we talking .
They should make replacing batteries so you go in a station where you leave the empty one then put a full one in place
handly batteries like suitcase and they can be standart for all kind of cars
Nice to have that power where the Cop's are giving you the all clear, Jay's the man.
You had fun with this one Jay. If you could turn off the traction control that car should burn out all day long and not move 4 feet in the process.
Think about the batteries that are used in the cars. They go around the world to get processed, and the deposits where they mine the nickel have huge "dead zones" around them from the acid rain. and what do you do when the batteries go flat?
Electric cars are fine for those who can afford to buy or lease new cars. What about the rest of us that can only afford to buy used cars? I normally buy a car when it's about 6 years old, buy carefully and you will get something that will last for many many years. But buy an electric car that is 6 years old and the batteries will be on the last miles of life. And the cost of batteries will be much more than the car is worth. The future is looking pretty bleak for anyone that can't afford to buy new.
Wish jay was the host of top gear us
Jay you are the man, huge fan oh both shows!!!
Jay, could you do an episode on the GM EV1?
He can't because they don't exist anymore.. GM didn't sell them, they only leased them to customers and didn't allow anyone to buy them because they were just doing it as an experiment. So, after they stopped making them, they took all the cars back and destroyed them.. I think theres a few left in museums but that's it. It's a shame because if they stuck with it then they would be ahead of everyone in the electric car department from years of research and development and refinement.
I agree with everything you said except for one exception that you may not be aware of. Jay did an episode where he visited the giant estate of Francis Ford Coppola. There, among many other interesting vehicles, is an EV1. FFC said he actually forcefully kept it. So in fact, Jay could use that one. FFC already gave him permission to do so!
"You gotta hop it up, I dunno put like 50lbs of batteries in it" bloody funny!
please show this 100yo Electric Baker finally! ;)
What's up with all these old cars in the background at 07:52?
Love this channel, Leno is awesome. But we live in 2013, bit sharper quality is not too much to demand, at least 720p. I think Leno can afford a proper video camera.
Lively bunch!
at 1:38
"well, the range is between 100 and 120 miles..."
"ok, now is that with a naked Japanese hunger-striker?"
"no, with that you can get up to 150 miles actually"
Kay you are the man huge f
That was short-lived. It happened in late 2008; gas got down to about $1.80 per gallon. By the summer of 2009 or so, prices were back up to over $3 per gallon.
The German guy could probably do a mean "Arnold" impersonation. "I'll be back".
A big and important question this mini have air conditioner?
Jay is that. Vette z06 se 08??? Please review that beast lol
Lol,"regenerative braking,A mechanic that cools..!" HILARIOUS!!LOL
"Naked Japanese hunger striker going like this."
LMAO
They upload older videos (like this one) from Jay's website onto CZcams from time to time...
My friend has a Honda electric car, he charges it at night off peak hours, he says he pays about 20 bucks a month to charge it. Not bad. Or you can charge it in 3 hours like they said. That sounds pretty fast to me.
j what's up with your videos not show on my iPad mini
nah dude people give u thumbs up because u r a famous person
Yes Jay if you can't do a burnout it is the end of the world Long live to muscle cars
Nothing funnier than seeing people hate this!
how much is it now?
there are probably some potentiometer adjustments on the inverter that would allow you to increase max rpm and torque settings, ramp up and down adjustments.. but none of those would give you much! you would need a bigger motor and inverter and more juice! just like a gasser!
10:21 "With fuel prices the way they are ..."
In the background the price of regular is $2.23. lol
It's now March of 2022, we're 2 years into covid, Putin is bombing the crap out of Ukraine and gas is averaging roughly $6/gallon in California. Electric cars are looking better and better. ;-)
No HD what happen?
I'm going to have to write recharge and those 100 times till I get it right!
THATS HOW I ROLL!
There is one in the Henry Ford museum
this video must of been recorded some time back and was just uploaded today I saw a cheap gas price at the 10:10 mark
a stepping stone to the perfect car.
Not an electric car fan myself, atleast with the current technology, maybe in the future they will be the bees knees.
I am a huge Jay Leno's Garage fan tho!
HD VIDEOS PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
price?
stop at 10:29 the fuel prices are like $2-2.50 a gallon... oh how I miss those days
Leasing is a sure fire way to get absolutely no equity into your vehicle!
My brother wants to know if it comes in a convertible?
that doesn't sound too bad, if i converted litres to US gallons right(i think i did 3.79 litres = roughly 1 US gallon), for standard unleaded we are paying about $ 5.00 a gallon at this time(fuel is cheap at the moment !) in the big cities of Australia. the higher octane stuff is about 10 or 15 cents per litre more.
how drunk was Jay during the filming of this segment?
Lol he waved at the cop. Ima try that next time I speed by one.
I think he may be trying to be positive everything runs smoothly.
I think this is the wave of the future. Mini has not come out with one yet but Nissan has and there is rumors for other manufacturers to be releasing their versions soon. I would definitely buy an electric because in 20 years children are going to be appaled that we still drove IC engine cars with the threat of global warming looming over our heads.
Your comment is remarkably prescient.
"zeh ze factory lak you kenat" HAHAHA!
Who wanted to see the older one out too??
the corvettes in the back say: SOON
At the end he says with the gas prices the way they are today and it says
Actually, nuclear power is quite enviromentally friendly. Especially with the LFTE reactor type.
At the end he say with the gas prices the way they are today and it says 232 per gallon in the background lol where I live it's almost 5 damn dollars a gallon !!
So regenerative braking is a mechanic that cools the brakes? Could race cars benefit from it?
they already do in formula 1
Jay Leno, review an SUV. Like the SRT8 Jeep or something similar.
2009
With a range of 400 miles this would be a world beater, hey?
Haha, nice catch. here in NY I'm paying $4.00+
The only thing that I know of that rolls and explodes and makes noise is a tank and the tumbler.
Dear Mr. Leno, Do you remember meeting George Dalton?
I have ordered 2 i3's, one with the extender and after that I thought, why didn't I tick off the range extender option for the other. At the time I thought that the engine, which is essentially a modified unit from BMW's Motorrad division, added weight which will reduce the range. Weight kills efficiency, this is why no weightlifter never won gold in the 100m relay in the olympics but after saying that, Usain Bolt never won gold lifting weight.
love mini coopers #german
you can fill this thing for a couple of bucks, and in theory, it could be fuelled completely green...ly (as electricity can be made via. solar, wind, etc.)
Dear Mr. Leno do you remember meeting George Dalton?
you are right except that there is no way home solar panels would supply enough electricity to get you to the nearest gas station
Wind, solar, hydro, nuclear? Figure out an emission system for the coal/nat gas plants?
Jay could have mentioned that unlike running out of gas with conventional cars, AAA won't be bringing you a gallon of electricity. They will be towing you to a charging station
Jay really needs to get better at handbrake turns lolol.
With on fuel use,how does the state collect tax from the electric cars for road and bridge maintenance? Shouldn't the electric paying their fair share? The generating station that burns fossil fuel to make electricity for the cars has emissions. So the electric car isn't emissions free...If 10% of the cars on the road where electric, how many generating stations would we have to build to ercharge thoes batties? Just some random thoughts...But, it would still be cool have one!
ah 2 23 a gallon. miss that.
_"Zero emission"_ Right, because electricity grows on trees...
True matey very true. Everything for the car is transported by lorries, that are all diesel.. power stations burn coal or plutonium.
@@equaliser2265 Welp, better not try at all then
