- The kids from the 80s are lucky to have way too many things to remember fondly. While the choices often vary about the favorites, there is one thing they will all agree upon - their love for He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. The original cartoon series followed the launch of a toyline, but soon the stories were far more intriguing than the usual toy-selling gimmicks. The character of He-Man became a much loved superhero, and there were several comebacks over the years. There was a film featuring Dolph Lundgren as He-Man, and a re-booted cartoon series that was quite appreciated. Other projects followed and the franchise’s popularity continued mainly because of some fascinating characters.
From the righteous and heroic He-Man to the evil Skeletor and Evil-Lyn, the show has way too many colorful characters that make things entertaining. In this video, we will take you on a nostalgic ride as we conduct a fun throwback of all these memorable characters.

Man I am glad that I grew up in the 80s and I got to see ultimate cartoons like He-Man and the Masters of the Universe and ThunderCats but I freaking love the Masters of the Universe I still have a lot of the old action figures from that time what a great time it was to be a kid in the 80s.
Me too. I am a 80’s kids. Great decade for cartoons with good characters and awesome storylines.
Yes thev80s was awesome gijoe for me
D and D , Sky Commanders , Centurions , Sectuars ... the list goes on, Such great time!!!!
And Transformers
Mask, thunder cats, he-man, brave star, ect.. All great.
The best part of the 80s era he-man was the educational and push to make kids better ppl.
There was always an inspirational segment at the end to inspire kids to be good ppl.
That was a nice touch that you appreciate probably more now than then.
I have a theory about that. Since the show featured battles and fighting, and since we had a lot of moral guardians convinced that children's entertainment was corrupting children, they added those lesson segments at the end to placate parents and critics. Same thing with GI Joe.
@@gspendlove I believe they explain the reasoning behind that in a documentary called The Magic of Filmation, that's available on CZcams.
Yeah, I really do appreciate the little morals at the end of each episode. Even though they're kinda cheesy, sometimes, especially when you're older, you need to hear them again.
You forgot about He-Mans biggest enemy, Kevin Smith.
You also forgot SJWs and angry feminists. Which I guess Kevin Smith falls under.
Scorched! 🔥🔥🔥😂😂
@@t3jf , 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Yeah any the 2002 writers lol. He-man with a claw hand half armour n mechanical sword I just couldn't get past.
Lol. So edgy. What a hot take
Ah yes... Childhood battles with He-man and the Thundercats teamed up with the Autobot and GIJoe against Cobra, The Deceptions and the forces of Mum-Ra. Imagine that crossover as a cartoon.
Robot Chicken did this duing one of the Nerd character's dream sequences. With some actually watchable comic results. Also, in the comics and some runs of the toy francheses, there is crossover between Transformers, Gi Joe, MASK, and a few others. And stuff like the Marvel Universe becoming a franchise in of of itself. So, if one company were to hold the rights to all franchises (or someone were to negotiate equatable use of them from whatever entities hold the rights now), and if we can agree to never let Michael Bay near any part of the project, it could become the next MCU.
Prince Adam was given the Sword of POWER, Princess Adora was given the Sword of PROTECTION.
Also, In two TV versions of "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe", 3 heroic Warriors know that
Prince Adam is He-Man and Cringer is Battlecat, they are as follows: The Sorceress, Man-At-Arms, and Orko.
HE-MAN was the first toy line I was really obsessed with (followed by every other toy line of the 80s). My first vivid memories of great toy experiences were with my He-Man toys, I even had castle grey skull and most of the vehicles. Really fond memories of the characters. Not to mention the iconic cartoon…good times.
Exact same here. My favorite cartoon when I was little. I had all the action figures, castle greyskull, clothes, and the sword.
I used to love going to the toy store as a kid and going straight to where the MOTU figures were, I loved the box art.
Literally one of my all time favourite franchises
I worked on He-Man Masters of the Universe hit TV Animation Series for a solid 3 years for Filmation Studios in the late 80s. A great experience for me as one of the Key Animators for this fantastic TV series. A time in my animation career I will never forget. Barry Anderson czcams.com/video/IDFv-yZM3CU/video.html
It was common for my Filmation Director to cast certain characters to key Animators that showed much drawing strength for any particular character design. For example, some animators were good with animals and others with female characters, and then others with male characters, and so on. The Directors at Filmation assigned the main character He-Man, Orko, Cringer, and Battle Cat in that order including much of the Stock Footage that we would call Same As that you can see playing in every episode."
Quite interesting, could you tell us something more?
I recently noticed Teela had to be ripped straight from the Flash Gordon cartoon. Princess Aura. They are identical. There’s no way that’s a coincidence. Know anything about that ?
Nothing has compared to the original series we had in the 80's..2002 was close...but the original is still the best
Agreed!
the new netflix series is an abomination
Sorry but the filmation series looks really unappealing. The new adventures may be goofy as hell but its style aged far better (note both of them are older than me). While I like the '02 series a lot due to insane nostalgia, I would be down to watch the new adventures cuz they are actually, yknow, watchable. Meanwhile the og show looks really bad and feels made for children. Not in the sense of the theming, at least the '02 series is just as childish, but because of the poor quality and talking animal. Just feels like I'm watching the old scooby doo. And I didn't like the old scooby doo all that much. The quality is too poor.
Also I'd suggest anyone interested in some entertainment watch the cgi netflix series. It is pretty passable and reasonably entertaining. Granted, ram man (who got genderbent but at least it no longer feels as goody) is quite literally one of the most annoying characters I've seen in the franchise, but it feels quite faithful to the OG's satam cartoon vibes, and the fact transformation sequences and special attack cutscenes are respected shows there is a lot of love. Also the evil masters have transformations and they are based. If nothing else, give those a look online. It got too much bad press after revelations took a shit on the original series, and while not good, it does work as a hit of that nostalgia if you're not too set into hating everything made for today's kids. Or froth at the mouth whenever diversity is brought up. It isn't the he-man y'all or I grew up with, but that doesn't mean it's a bad he-man.
the 2022 version is a HUGE woke mess.
@@onyachamp revelations or the cgi one?
'You can't do this to me!'
'Funny. I thought I just did it.'
Even years after I first heard that I still laugh each time.
I am a Malaysian, born by the end of 2001 but by God, He-Man made my childhood in those days. Still being able to watch He-Man around early 2000s even though it was an 80s show makes up more than anything in my life. He-Man, Count Duckula, the Nickelodeon classics, I just am grateful enough for what I had in my times.
The originals and the 200X reboot are the best that motu has to offer.
Revelations and the new show are phenomenal
@@andrewquick4176 Revelations is not, the other one is enjoyable.
The thing is the original cartoon is more filmation than motu. It was filmation that rejected stinkor and not mattel telling filmation to make a stinkor episode so we know who wore the pants there. 200X is paramount.
@@andrewquick4176 You are trying to lie to people. They are horrible. Especially Revelation
To this very day, I still watch He-Man, the oroginals, posted by the channel Masters of The Universe. I love em.
Thank you for this video. It's made me realize that I did not see as much of the Filmation series as I thought I had. I'll need to revisit it.
I grew up with he-man cassettes and my trusty cassette recorder❤
He-Man and The Lost 🐉 🐉 🐲 Dragon
Me too!!! The cassette tapes always seemed more brutal than the show lol.
Queen Marlene was and in my eyes is and always be the glue of Eternia.
She's the glue yet you spell her name wrong?
@Erick Abner only once actually, twins
The 2002 reboot is severely unappreciated!!
My second D&D RPG war gaming shop ran a 3.5e D&D/Star Wars campaign off that series.
Skeletor & Eval Lyn went and played Cupid between Prince Adam & Teela, with after a few years they got married .
S&E baiting Adam and Adam response, " Teela is alright,, but she is more like an over bearing sister."
Teela, " Sister ! You think of me as your over bearing ... Sister !?"
Eval Lyn, " Oh my, .. we Had no ideal you were there over hearing us talk. Princes Adan is still a virgin, I have magic spells to know if he wasn't ."
I ignore anything involving "Revelations" . I hold dear the stories from the original Filmation studio and the 200X series.
Please forward this to Kevin Smith so that he may have an idea what He-man is really supposed to look like
You forgot about Orko, who also knows of Prince Adam's secret.
Orko is in it, 32:30
He is in it
She-ra had the sword of protection. He-man had the sword of power.
You are correct but everyone today has to have a female lead….welcome to the woke society…..
Could also explain why her sword morphed Into things, like a "protective" entity and He Man's sword was purely powerful..? Maybe?
This thorough and extensive breakdown of EVRY character is MUCH APPRECIATED !! Brought back SOOOO many good memories
how Netflix managed to destroy he-man
Kevin Smith's version in my opinion didn't do He man justice at all.
Thanks for this one! Have fond memories of Filmation’s Masters of the Universe.
Speaking of fave characters, mine are:
He-Man, Man-at-Arms, the Sorceress, Fisto, Skeletor, Cobra Khan, Trap-Jaw and King Randor (who was voiced by Filmation co head Lou Scheimer as detailed in his book, Creating the Filmation Generation.
Nice video, but should probably remove "every" from the title and perhaps make it a "part 1" instead, since the video - while well-done - fails to mention 2 dozen+ characters. Would like to see a part 2.
I'll second that; I'd love to see part 2 with more characters!
Me three!
Me 4.
Dude just watch it, weirdo.
Thanks for the heads up I’m not wasting my time for just a few characters
You forgot about king Randall's stint as the Burger King 🤷
I loved the Roboto toy when you twisted/rotated the waist several different colour and sized cogs moved. The Mossman toy smelt of pine.
Queen Marlena's pre-marriage last name is Glenn, and as a future NASA pilot from Earth, made me wonder whether this is a nod to the original astronaut John Glenn!
Orko is more than comic relief. He may be more powerful than he lets on.
I always imagine a fight between Ram-Man & Juggernaut, both whose momentum are unstoppable
And then the Blob steps between them…
When the Juggernaut is in motion he can't be stop Cain it's his hack , Marko is the exemplar of Cyttorak arguably the most powerful magical base entity in marvel.
I didn't have time to watch the entire video, but Tri-Clops and Trap Jaw are still awesome to this day!
wow, great video. It's really great what work you put into all of your videos to let us 80s kids indulge in nostalgia
Greetings from Germany
Surprised Evil-Lyn was covered after so many lesser characters, in my opinion. She has "Evil" as part of her name after all.
Evil-Lyn is actually Evelyn Morgan Powers. Daughter of King Morgan Powers of the Kingdom of Zelaysia.
Funny how in both of the more recent He-Man cartoons, it ends (at least the 1st part) with Skeletor in a position of absolute authority.
Teela was originally a toy figure which was a stand in for two different characters (A warrior and a goddess) which were the source of her title as a "Warrior goddess".
That is definitely not what it was. They retconned that years later. Teela was just Teela
Teela was Teela without the snake armour and the goddess with, it was to save machining two female figures but have two out at the same time, in the mini comics teela was a clone of the goddess and they merged a few times
Please just go and watch sheman version and leave the original for us to enjoy.......
@@indrajeet wtf? Chill I grew up with the original and happen to know what they intended with the original figure. I like the original 200x and revelations.
@@indrajeet Chill.
That was a good effort, team. A few errors here or there and sometimes a little oversimplified, but you covered a LOT of ground, so pretty impressive! This video could easily have gone on for another hour if you went through the rest of the characters.
I really think there should be a Part 2 of this, featuring other characters like: Rattlor; Tung Lashor; Leech; Grizzlor; Snake Face; Blast-Attak; Panthor; Battle Cat; Sy-Klone; Snout Spout; Clamp Champ; Rio Blast; Stondar & Rokkon; Jitsu; Dragstor; Extendar; Blade; Multibot; Mosquitor; Saurod; Gwildor; Ninjor; Rotar & Twistoid.
And that's just covering the rest of the original action figures! Some of the weirdest and most wonderful characters, IMO.
You should make that video
@@skizman3000 I came to say exactly that. This dude seems to know them all!
I think if they didn’t appear in every version they shouldn’t be on the list. Isn’t enough lore then
@@narltonsudzville319 battlecat is literally one of the most important characters in the franchise . if you dont think he matters.. get out.
Chop So, bad guy opposite Fist To, had the toy, a few more but good job tho
Orco always reminded me of a final fantasy mage.
Other way around, chronologically
It was implied often that Marlena was part of the same program as Buck Rogers.
Am I the only one who grew up remembering the Moss Man action figure had a weird stench to the toy .
Not as bad a Stinkor but blatantly obvious.
Moss man's smell was a combo of what his fuzz was made of and often of bacteria lingering in the toy. It was difficult to properly clean said toy without destroying the fuzz or altering its texture.
Zodac and Zodak are actually 2 separate characters. Zodac is the one from the original vintage series and Filmation 80s show, while Zodak the "tattoed with lights" man is his successor, as seen in the Mike Young 200X series.
I so badly want a reboot of He-Man & Masters of the universe films. Just take aspiration from not only the 80's animated series but aswell as 2002 netflix animated series too. I'd like to see He-Man and She-Ra 's parents meet at the beginning of the first film, something like Man Of Steel but their mother crashes on Eternia meeting King Randor, them having Adam& Adora as infants with a battle following Skeletor with skin on his face at first for most of the movie till his climatic fight with He-Man. Hordak would have a cameo or minor appearance only to kidnap infant Adora to use as Evil and return in her own Spin off franchise and eventful crossover film with He-Man to be reunited with family but have to go back. Of-course I wouldn't cram all the other character villains and allies into one film but spread them out best as possible within a trilogy/ more films.
You left out a few, such as clamp champ, ninjer, and the fact according to the 2002 series, trapjaw, was originally known as Kronos.
Also Cyclone, Leech, Grizzlor, Stonedar, Rockon, Tounge-Lashor, Snout-Spout(Hose-Nose), Jitsu, among others...they were a part of my 80's collection...a part two maybe?...
They forgot Battle Cat, Swift Wind, Panther, & a whole lot of other characters. MOTU/POP has a lot of characters in the franchise.
So they should rename the video to Some......
Trapjaw was in the original from the start in episode 4 or 5 or somewhere around there
Teela was always a strong female lead..she fought beside He-Man..not in his shadow..there a multiple times He-Man even compliments her skills and values her friendship and skills. Cringer...love this character..he was the frighten big cat..but in a few of the episodes Cringer without being Battle Cat overcomes his fears to save He-Man / Prince Adam or his friends...showing that the swords power only amplified his deeply held courage to protect those he loves..so in essense Cringer is Courage.."Courage is not the absence of fear, but to do what is right in the face of it."
Orko also knows Adam & He-Man are one in the same don't forget speaking of forgetting you forgot Cringer/Battle Cat , Stridor the robotic horse & Spirit/Swift Wind.
I noticed that too. Orko and Cringer being aware the He Man and Adam are one in the same were left out and that bit of knowledge is revealed in the opening credits.😊
I did find out my wife will give me a weird look when I tell her that Evil Lynn is kinda hot... She then got cross when I said that Evil Lynn reminded me of her. Is there no pleasing some people?
Dont worry mate..I got ur back hahaha..👍🍻🤘🍺✌🍻
I find the Sorceress hot myself. 😇
@@dinomonzon7493 oh yeah, she's a cutie too lol..but I agree with OP also,Evil-Lyn has got the goods too!!
Right….
The evil witch is hot
Skeletor remembered Adora so not everyone on Eternia's mind was wiped..huge hole in that fabric for the sorceress.
Skeletor didn't seem to know the kidnapped baby was Adora, given his surprise when Hordak mentioned her name.
i thought she-ra had the sword of protection, not power. anyways teela should have been a background character.
Adora's sword is the Sword of Protection (Sword of She), not the Sword of Power (Sword of He).
Also, Teela has always been a main character and always should be.
You forgot to introduce catra and Shadow Weaver 🤩
Great video. Enjoyable and the narration is a big upgrade over a lot that I've seen
I should really re-watch the 2002 series, barely recall anything about it, and it will be at least fun unlike the current year trash.
So....very in-depth video. However, how did one person go from one race of human being to another without even a mention as to how or why that came to be? The difference is inescapable, you showed the comic and the current both.
I thought I was tripping watched that part 10x and was like “but why tho???”
My childhood all in one video. Yes please!

I loved this. He man was my favorite cartoon in childhood. This was interesting seeing all the origins.
MOSS MAN and the masters of the universe
You forgot to cover Skeletor's Sword of Power... well, it only existed in the action figures. Among us kids, there was a lot of heated debate about it and what it does. Skeletor's sword and He-Man's sword are designed as half-swords that can "lock their backs together" to create one sword. Among our group, we came to the "genius obvious brilliant conclusion" that Skeletor's sword is what was leftover when He-Man's sword was having its non-hero properties "filtered out" and was useless without He-Man's sword. Skeletor's sword, one linked with He-Man's, will let Skeletor have He-Man's powers without the heroic requirements. If you were a preteen in the 80s who remember Skeletor's sword, I'm sure you have lots of ideas spawned from those pre-teen memories. I mean, the coloring book I had at the time was the only media ever to even *SHOW* Skeletor's sword. When the cartoon became popular, Skeletor only came with his staff, the sword was no longer in the package. I think Faker had it for a bit but I'm not sure. In action hero toy form, he was supposed to be He-Man's equal in physical capability.
I remember putting both sides of the power sword together to open the gate of castle greyskull. I don't recall where I heard that, it was a long time ago
@@muchachonextdoor5608 Been decades for me too, my friend.
@@muchachonextdoor5608 I have the boxes set of the 80s show on DVD. In bonus materials, they talk about this having been a rejected idea when planning out the Castle Grayskull play style. It was rejected because they were far-stighted enough to know that parents would be frustrated by the play set requiring 2 OTHER toys to be purchased in order to make sure it would work, and purchased AGAIN if one or both swords got broken/lost (repeat as needed).
There was an episode with another powerful sword, which becomes merged with He-Man's, permanently upgrading He-Man's sword. Probably a way to explain the functionality of the toy? Also, see my reply to MND below for an explanation of the toy's intent. A rare case of toy designers realizing that parents wouldn't want to buy a super-complex toy set that would require other toys to be bought in order to even make it function.

Great video, thanks for the information
Just FYI, editing in the modern crap is what made me tune out before 2:00
Seems like a lot was left out. A lot of action figures, characters from the comics, characters that only were made exclusive for the movie, etc.
I loved the idea, but it have nice to see the compare and contrast of the original mini comics with the TV and movie versions of ALL characters as well.
You could literally make a series of this concept, and actually get to everything. Some more research could've been done as well, Alan Oppenheimer was the voice of Duncan in the original '80s Masters of the Universe animated series. Except for the mini comics, Orko was ALWAYS a character that knew He-man's secret.
Don't get me wrong, this was an amazing video, a lot of fun, great clips to illustrate the characters.
Just seems like too much was left out. I think it should be a series.

Nice video!
forgot how much I loved the 2002 run
Netflix should of hired you guys to write Revelations.
Except this very video points out the bias of you so called fans.
I had every single character and every vehicle and every castle from He-Man and The Evil Hoard. Not She-Ra, but absolutely everything else. I think my parents just donated them from the attic when I moved out 28 years ago. I wish I still had them. This story could be comparable to Star Wars, which I also had everything, LOTR, and Dune. I guess kids want video versions now instead of the action figures. So I'm investing in Mattel. I bet when I make 1000 bucks, I can buy back my toys.
Great video, but it's funny how characters like Ninjor and Clamp Champ were shown, though never talked about/ mentioned.
It's funny I remember about a decade back I found some episodes of the original He-man show in the 5 dollar DVD bin at Walmart. I hadn't seen the show since I was a kid so I was really excited to check it out and it was then I realized how dumb the show was and how it really was just an advertisement for buying the toys lol. Each episode was a thinly strung together plot with a lot of recycled animations, the only things that carried the show were the music and the voice acting. Oh well some things are best left in the past and He-man is one of them lol.
I agree very detailed.
I love master s of the universe! I grue up with this! I had mad he man toys in the 80s and I have some now! Ja dizzo here!!
Extendar wasn't on the list but he was one of my favorite action figures.
Every character.... Grizzlor, Leech, Sy-klone, Stonedar, Rokkon, Clamp Champ, Jitzu, Ninjor, Blast Attack, Rio Blast, Snake Face to name a handful you missed. Good work on who you did include but the title says every character. I'm surprised you included Andra over any of these other characters as they are more well known.
Awesome job
Learning of the origin of Kobra Kahn got me thinking if Ed Boon and John Tobias based Reptile off of him. Reptile's history and Kahn's are very similar to each other the difference is Reptile isn't of royal blood of his race, but he does have the ambitions to restore his race former glory. Give Ram-man a magical gem with an incantation and you'll have yourself a great value Juggernaut lol.
Great video 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾 big he man fan here.
No Jitsu though.
Do samething with 80s Transformers characters 🤔🤔
Still got my snake mountain and castle greyskull, almost 40 years later
Doing Kobra Khan dirty here, he had a huge part in freeing King Hiss, Rattlor helped, but Khan deserves credit.
Orko is in the list of who knows He-Mans true identity.
She-Ra's sword is called the "Sword of Protection" not the "Sword of Power"
My top 4 MOTU, Transformers, GI Joe, and Dungeons and Dragons
We need a live action She-Ra movie. Her humble beginnings as princess Adora to She-ra. That will awesome. And have special characters guest as He-Man and others. That will epic.
Evil Lynne used to scare me, but now? Now that I am 34? I find myself, uhh, well she doesn't scare me anymore there we go.
It was a pleasure to hear a woman talking about He-Man. As a girl I enjoyed He-Man, but felt like a girl alone in a sea of boys.
I'm really glad they kept Tela and Evil-lyn as strong intelligent women. I always felt they were better and more fun to watch than She-Ra. She-Ra always felt like they were trying too hard to aim it at girls.
Evil-lyn is my favorite
i allways did wonder if the German radioplay got the same storyline then the english ones. Because in 3 of them the origin of Skeletor, Trap-Jaw and Beastman were explained.
At the Story "Todestor" (Deathgate) Man at Arm dissapeared in the area of the Sands of time and He-Man searched with Orko his best friend, they go through the gate that suddendly appeard after a timestorm in the dessert. There they met the Giants that came to Eternia a long time ago and changed a habbitable place on Eternia into the Destert that will be called the Sands of time, they where on Eternia after they pollute theyr own home planet so nothing would be able to live there so they wantet to let theyr planet rest for a few hundert years to regenerate. After they did land on Eternia they took all bad/dark emoptions , knowledge etc. of theyr folk and created Skeletor as a vessel for all that evil stuff. After they finished it they threw Skeletor in a time Portal so they will never met him again. Well we all know in which time he did land.
The Story of Trap-Jaw i sadly dont remember the name of the Story ,was he formerly was a young Smith appretince with the name Jaw that was wandering around when he did hear the yell for help from a kid boy, he ran to the source of the yelling and did see the boy chained on a rock. The Boy explained that he was bound on the rock by skelektor who wanted to ran him over with a tank for fun, Jaw tried to free the boy but the kid was so frightened and moved so much that Jaw had a hard time to get him free. In the last second Jaw managed to free the boy but it was too late for him , he was only able do dodge the tankfast enough that he only lost his Jaw and his Arm. Skeletor get out of the Tank and did see the seriously woundet Jaw on the ground and remembered him as the smith apprentice, he sayd to him that he should not fear he will make him a new Jaw of Steel and a prosthetic weapon arm also he will erase his memorys and use him as his Bodyguard.
Beastmans Origin story was in "Nach über Castle Greyskull" (i guess : Castle Greyskull in the Dark , would be the most propper translation , not sure) Beastman was a former scientist , the most known in his folk. He was forced to work for Skeletor , he didnt want to but it seems he was kinda blackmailed into Skeletors service , they dont really explained this here. Skeletor found an old Magical Artefact with an blueprint of a Powerful weapon with that he wanted to gain the power over Greyskull but Beastman recognized the danger of that weapon and if Skeletor would build and active it no one on Eternia would survive this. Well we all know Skeletor dont bother those things , so Beastman threw this artefact into a Vulcan becasue that artifact was indestructible but this way it was out of reach from Skeletor and he would not be able to build that weapon. Skeletor was in rage and tortured Beastman with a very painful poison but he refused to tell Skeletor where this artifact was hidden, so the poison slowly destroyed his mind and Beastman became dumb and a loyal Servant of Skeletor.
I appologize for my bad English.
