- Time. What is it? This is such an odd question to ask. But to never inquire into the nature of time is even more strange. We are all subject to time and its process of birth, life, decay, and death. This linear process makes us believe that the nature of time is just linear and something we don’t need to explore. But is it linear or something completely different and a lot greater than we have first considered? Time is something we never consider just like fish don’t consider the water in which they live. But in one of the longest enduring cultures in the world, they didn’t just consider time, but they also mapped its birth and relationship to the nature of consciousness itself. I am always amazed by the depths of Hindu cosmology. It is so complex and it is no wonder why some modern-day physicists have referred to it.
Because it was created by ancient hindu scientists, they were called sages. Thats why world need to protect Vedic dharma.

I am a Hindu and have read the scriptures. I am intensely satisfied with the way kali yuga is defined here. Its just perfect and couldn' t be explained in a better way.

For learning about the essence of vedas you can read "Bhagwat Gita as it is" by Shri Prabhupada.

there are also indians with western spirituality who believe in Christianity
People are innately attracted to things they lack (whether they want to/are aware of it or not). When one aspect within ourselves is overdeveloped, we will feel a need/calling to develop the opposite aspect to restore equilibrium and harmony. The Westerners have been made miserable by capitalism, consumerism, and materialism for so long that their spiritually dead/blind souls are beginning to awaken, while Indians are already so accustomed to their spiritual culture that they're now focusing on having more material/sensual pleasures in their lives.
It's just nature/the universe's way of balancing itself.
The more i study this ancient knowledge, the more humble i feel.....thank you for posting!

@Jessica Hicking there arent 300 gods...Indian ancient knowledge (that people ignorantly call Hinduism, just to put it among religions) aims to define god in order to understand that supreme being better. But you are correct, it is quite difficult coz theres a lot to understand and Indian ancient knowledge gives an answer as to why we find it difficult. We live in an era of gross ignorance...wish I could write pages and pages here coz there is so much...btw I am an Indian and want to tell all you that dont consider this knowledge as being owned by someone like the church or something, it is for all humans and most Indians too are as ignorant about it as anyone esle can be..lol..relax and get started you will certainly find your path

There is no conflict. There are smaller Yuga cycles within larger Yuga cycles.
I was first exposed to the long count system when I found my introductory path to spirituality in a traditional Hindu system of teaching and practice. But when I came across Steinmetz and Selbie I was attracted to the short count system at once because it was much more encouraging to see us as situated in the beginning of ascending Dwapara yuga rather than still being at the beginning of a much longer descending Kali yuga, to be followed by another long, ascending Kali yuga. That had us facing over 460,000 more years of the grim nightmare I saw in the news each week; frankly, I couldn't imagine us surviving through that and figured we were doomed to nuclear warfare or something equally horrible. Now, with the passage of time since I discovered the short count perspective, I see signs of opening and increasing consciousness and spirituality that correspond well with the notion of being at the beginning of Dwapara yuga. Finding videos of content like that which you present in this one exemplifies this developing process. I'm 72 and I assure any readers that the essential nature of this video's content, and the rise of "alternative" researchers, is something that was absent and almost impossible as little as 50 years ago. There is still plenty of nasty crap going on in the world, but we can hardly expect things to change from one yuga to the next in an abrupt and complete fashion. It is more reasonable to assess the badness as lingering from earlier but that it is on the wane; while new, healthier thinking and perspectives are on the rise. Thank you for your contribution!
I agree with your perspective. If one reads the Law of One, it could be extracted from this philosophy that both possibilities (long count AND short count) exist simultaneously, as the Earth we know is purportedly being split into a higher consciousness plane for those who desire it, and a lower consciousness plane for those who elect to continue with the experiences of fear and domination.
Short count is within the long count of Brahm Yuga (The Yuga of the Cosmos)
Solar system Yuga is short count but Brahm Yuga is long count. Hence, while Solar Yuga is in rising Treta Yuga, Brahm Yuga is still in Kali Yuga. Theory of relativity
Small cycles within big cycles
The long count is due to ERROR in counting due to Kali !
If you study history, the short count fits perfectly with the dark ages; age of enlightenment and Manu's indication that life span and technology will increase in Dwapara!
No one would argue that our lifespan and technology are increasing and not decreasing , as it would if we were at the beginning of Kali !
Both systems have a solid base. Carl Sagan in his epic "Cosmos" has talked how accurate is Hindu Kalpa of 4.32 Billion years of 1 Brahman day compared to the Physics of today.
Amazing how Hindu cosmology in all of its richness and complexity meshes very well with many modern-day physics.
@Vadim VeeVoit true modern day physics fail to see both sides of the coin. They only focus on physicality of the creation and not the non physical part of the creation which is the fundamental source of creation.
My biggest argument in this is that though the 4.32 billion years is relevant. The idea that we (humans) have been alive that whole time. Going through large sections of time. Humans have not been around for a quarter of that time let alone the whole thing.

I can say “I believe there is a talking tea cup sitting in space behind the moon”. It is not on you to prove to me there isn’t, it would be on me to prove that a talking tea cup exists, especially when all scientific knowledge points to it being preposterous and ridiculous.
And just saying that old literature says that humans have been around for longer than 4.3 billion years is not even a remotely close amount of proof. If it were than I can take any historical text and just say “ oh look this is proof that Hercules, or the burning bush, or Horus, or Odin, are all real and have the true knowledge. The idea of science must be false”
Not surprising that folks will find 'something' to bitch and moan about like the music transition being too jarring etc.. Kali Yuga for sure !

I don't care about yugas, but I and my future generation have to protect India and its Ancient Religion, culture and texts in such a way that it should last till the end of all lifeforms. There is a lot going on both good and bad. I have just considered in protecting the real texts and it's Sanskrit language understanding.

This was enlightening and done fantastically. Well done, Jason! Oddly enough, I bought Sri Yukteswar's Holy Science at a used bookstore 5 years ago and I haven't read it yet. I started exploring Hinduism after dreaming of Shiva and when I found this book, I thought it was something I should read but at the time, I was transitioning on my journey from Judaism and had an overwhelming skepticism about everything religious. Coming from a background prior to Judaism of "you shouldn't read anything unless its christian." Its all so fascinating. I also have listened to Graham Hancock. A) Shri Bhagwat Geeta- aatman is never born , it never dies , it just changes its location from one body to another .
B) Einstein- energy cannot be created and cannot be destroyed, it can be transformed from one form to another .
A is what I call Vedic science
B is what we know as modern science . 🙏

There needs not be any conflicts or contradictions between the two. One doesn't need to be the Absolute Truth, and not the other. To me, energy (as defined/described by Sir Einstein) could be the material equivalent or manifestation (or at least, perceivable and testable effects) of the spiritual soul embodied in maya.
Both scientific and spiritual truths are relevant in their own ways.

humans in satya yuga lived for 100,000 years, in treta yuga lifespan was 10,000 years, dwapara yuga (thats written in the bible) lifespan max is 1,000 years and now in kaliyuga 100 years is about the max. Each yuga is populated by a different species of human beings.

The higher the truth, the better job it does to resolve the apparent contradictions and conflicts amongst various philosophies, religions, '-isms' etc. Hinduism the word is a 'modern construct'. Sanatana Dharma (eternal truth) is the 'original' description.

I'm a retired Radio and TV person. Grew up in radio. Worked "onAir" and Program Director, Operation s Mgr. And owner manager. Since I'm qualified to critique. That said, your loud music blast takes away from your narration, not adds anything but unpleasant, unrelated noise, like cheap movies and old radio. Any sfx should never be louder than voice. In fact I used a 20db reduction below any talk.
Seems so many contribution to CZcams are" trying to make a movie" in #4 you get it right with background music low but present, sounds good, but the blast for .... punctuation? are an unnecessary throwaway.
I'm sure some jerk will have to attack me so I'll go, maybe check later. 🍀🤙

As the current (2020 if you follow the Gregorian calendar, or 2012 if one follows the Ethiopian orthodox church ) Great Conjunction is at 0 degrees to Aquarius, I choose to believe the start of the Golden Age of Aquarius is upon us in a few days during the Winter solstice on 21 Dec. The old system is the correct one.
both systems are correct. its like minutes and hours on a clock. The minor cycle we are in dwapara, but major cycle is still kaliyuga.

Each of the 14 Planetary Systems are in there own time zone, for example, on Brahmaloka, the top most planet in this single material universe (there are billions of other universes too that are deep inside other Brahmanda universal shells coming from Maha Vishnu)
Therefore 100 years on Brahmaloka is 311 trillion and 40 billion human years from the view point of our earth globe.

The " long count " system is what , up till now , I've understood to be , so to speak , " gospel " - having recieved this knowledge during a time I spent as a " brahmachari " in an ISKON temple during my early 30's . The founder of ISKON , Swami Bhaktivedanta Prahbupada , explains our current time period to be , as you point out here, the age of Kali , but that , as he goes on to expound , we find ourselves currently in , what he calls a " golden age " lasting 10,000 of our salar years , having begun approx 500 years ago with what he refers to as the advent of the " Golden Avatar " known as Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu , whom , he claims is a divine incarnation of Krishna . Prahbupada goes on to mirror what you describe concering our current age of Kali , as he points out the appearance of the Kalki Avatar introduced at the close of the 432,000 year Kali yuga cycle . I have heard , more recently , of the highly revered Sri Yukteswara . Again , thank you . ps am interested as to any feedback you might care to offer 😌

I was watching a amazing Documentary on the Yugas done by Sheldon Moore. I like his ideas on the Yugas cycles being far shorter than explained. He brings tons of geological evidence to prove his points as well as he has the backing of many Hindu scholars. He makes a grate point that when the Pyramids were built and other mega structure's it was around 12,000 years ago for people to build said structures they weren't in the dark ages. I think these Yuga cycle numbers are way to long for it to make any sense with humanity as we can prove modern humans have only been around for 200,000 years or so. It seems like humans go threw cycles no doubt but the length of time seems far shorter than what represented in these teachings. It's very possible that the amount of time these cycles last is mislabeled. if these cycles lasted 1/10th the time they would line up 100% with geological evidence for the state of man kind. Also the binary star system being 24,000 years makes these 6,000 and 12,000 years cycles make much more sense from a astrological stand point.
According to Puranas, each kalpa consists of fourteen Manvantaras, and each Manvantara is headed by a different *Manu* (the first Man of every cycle). The current universe, is asserted to be ruled by the 7th Manu named Vaivasvata.
In Vishnu Purana, Vaivasvata, also known as Sraddhadeva or Satyavrata, was the king of Dravida before the great flood. He was warned of the flood by the Matsya (fish) avatar of Vishnu, and built a boat that carried the Vedas, Manu's family and the seven sages to safety, helped by Matsya.
Total age of universe is 311.04 trillion years (human years).
Current age is around 155.521972944 trillion years.
How it is calculated:
-> There are 4 ages on earth which keeps circulating:
Satya Yuga - 1.728 million years
Treta Yuga - 1.296 million years
Dwapara Yuga - 0.864 million years
Kali Yuga - 0.432 million years
Total: 4.32 million human years.
-> This yuga cycle is called maha (in english, it means great/big) or divya (divine) yuga. One thousand such cycles forms one day of Brahma. So one day of Brahma is 4.32 million * 1000 = 4.32 billion human years. Each such day of Brahma is called a "kalpa". His night also constitutes 4.32 billion human years. During his day, life exists in universe. In nighttime, no form of life exists. So one complete day and night has 8.64 billion human years.
-> Age of Brahma is 100 years. Each year of Brahma has 360 days and same number of nights. Thus, total age of Brahma is 360 * 100 * 8.64 billion = 311,040 billion human years. i.e. 311.04 trillion years. This period is called "maha kalpa".
-> The life span of the universe is one "maha kalpa". i.e. 311.04 trillion human years. This time span is also the duration of one breath of "Vishnu". When he exhales, thousands of universes emerges and one "Brahma" is born in each universe. When "Vishnu" inhales, all universes get sucked and Brahma dies.
-> This cycle is non-ending and eternal. Thats why "Vishnu" is considered eternal in Vedic Science (or religion).
How much old is our universe:
-> Note that the period of Satya Yuga is 0.4x, Treta Yuga is 0.3x, Dwapara Yuga is 0.2x and Kali Yuga is 0.1x where x is the time-span of one maha-yuga cycle. I will use 'x' as 1 maha-yuga cycle subsequently.
-> In 1 day of Brahma, there are 14 "manvantara" (Manu Avatar). Each "manvantara" is divided into 71 "maha-yuga" cycles. So total make 14*71 = 994x (mahayuga cycles).
-> Remaining cycles (1 day of Brahma contains 1000 maha-yuga cycles) are used to fill gaps between manvantara. Before and after each manvantara (called as "sandhya" and "sandhyamsa" respectively), there is a junction of 1.728 million (age of Satya Yuga, or 0.4x) human years. Total number of junctions are 15 (since there are 14 manvantaras). So total gap period is = 0.4 * 15 = 6x. Hence total makes 1000 maha-yuga cycles or 1 brahma day.
-> According to the Vedic texts, current age of Brahma is 50 Brahma years and 1 brahma day (we are in the 1st day of 2nd half of brahma)and we are in the seventh "manvantara", in the 28th turnover of its 71 yuga cycles. In this cycle, we are in the start Kali Yuga. Age of kali yuga is not known perfectly but it is around 5000-10000 years. For calculation, lets assume 5000 human years.
-> So current age of our universe (in terms of maha-yuga cycles) =
(50 * 720 * 1000) -- 50 years * (360 days + 360 nights) * total no. of cycles in one day/night
+ (6 * 71) -- 6 manvantara each of 71 maha-yuga cycle
+ (7 * 0.4) -- 7 junctions or gaps for 6 manvantara
+ (27 * 1) -- we are in 28th cycle of 71
+ (0.4+0.3+0.2) -- In this cycle, we are in Kali Yuga. Satya Yuga, Treat Yuga and Dwapara yuga are 0.4x, 0.3x and 0.2x respectively.
+ around 5000 human years -- very small, so ignoring it.
Thus total age = (36,000,000 + 456.7)x = 36,000,456.7 * 4.32 million = 155,521,972.944 million years = 155.521972944 trillion human years. Now add the age of kaliyuga. i.e. around 5000 human years.
Appreciate you putting in all these calculations. Agree with most of it. One question: As per "So one day of Brahma is 4.32 million * 1000 = 4.32 billion human years. Considering the current age of the earth, today is 4.54 billion years as per google; we should already be in the night of Brahma but we still exist (as no life form exists in the night of Brahma). The underlying assumption is that life on earth is equivalent to a day of Brahma. Please clarify, not able to wrap my head around it
@@marsrishi i would never equate modern scientific parameters with ancient parameters, because in Indian texts our universe's age is in Trillions, not billions by modern science. I dont particularly know the exact age of Earth according to ancient scriptures but it is way more than that of what modern scientific figures tells us.
If you want to make sense and equate with each other then i can point out that life forms on earth started after the age of the earth by almost a billion yrs according to the modern science.
What i usually do is gather information and open to all possibilities whether modern or ancient.

Both short and long count systems are correct, the short count is basically superimposed on the background of greater Kali yuga. In essence, although there's an overall decay given we live in the very beginning of the 432,000 year cycle of the great Kali Yuga, there will be still "mini" ages of ups & downs determined by the precession of the Earth giving rise to the mini cycles of 24,000 years "located" within the greater 432,000 years of Kali yuga. In short, both views are valid and not contradictory.

Two contradictions:
1. According to long count - there is an expectation of Lord Kalki ascending to Earth while as per short count, we should have already witnessed it. If it is to be understood that one of the enlightened souls in the recent past is what Kalki is to be assumed of, then okay.
2. Extent of AI is not yet seen which could be the worst of times. Not hopeful or wishing but going with the current developments and futuristic innovations coming ahead short count do not match to long count

The Hindu metrics of time (Kaala Vyavahara) can be summarized as below:
• a Lipta (लिप्ता) is approximately 0.4 seconds
• a Vighati (विघटि) is 60 Liptas, or approximately 24 seconds
• a Ghadika (घटि) is 60 Vighatis, or approximately 24 minutes
• a Muhurta is equal to 2 Ghadikas, or approximately 48 minutes
• a Nakshatra ahoratram (नक्षत्र अहोरत्रम्) or sidereal day is exactly equal to 30 Muhurtas (Note: A day is considered to begin and end at sunrise, not midnight.)
An alternate system described in the Vishnu Purana Time measurement section of the Vishnu Purana Book I Chapter III is as follows:
100 Truti = 1 Tatpara

Small units of time used in the Vedas
• a Trasarenu is the combination of 6 celestial atoms.
• a Truti is the time needed to integrate 3 Trasarenus, or 1/1687.5th of a second.
• a Vedha is 100 Trutis.
• a Lava is 3 Vedhas.
• a Nimesha is 3 Lavas, or a blink.
• a Kshanas is 3 Nimeshas.
• a Kashthas is 5 Kshanas, or about 8 seconds.
• a Laghu is 15 Kashthas, or about 2 minutes.
15 Laghus make one Nadika, which is also called a danda. This equals the time before water overflows in a six-pala-weight [fourteen ounce] pot of copper, in which a hole is bored with a gold probe weighing four masha and measuring four fingers long. The pot is then placed on water for calculation.
2 Dandas make one Muhurta.
6 or 7 Dandas make one Yamah, or 1/4th of a day or night.
4 Praharas or 4 Yamas are in each day or each night.
LUNAR METRICS
a tithi (also spelled thithi ) or lunar day is defined as the time it takes for the longitudinal angle between the moon and the sun to increase by 12°. Tithis begin at varying times of day and vary in duration from approximately 19 to approximately 26 hours.
a paksa (also paksha) or lunar fortnight consists of 15 tithis
a masa or lunar month (approximately 29.5 days) is divided into 2 pakshas: the one between new moon and full moon is called gaura (bright) or shukla paksha; the one between full moon and new moon krishna paksha
a ritu is 2 masa
an ayanam is 3 rituhs
a year is 2 Aayanas
TROPICAL METRICS
a Yaama (याम) = 1/4th of a day(light) or night [ = 7½ Ghatis (घटि) = 3¾ Muhurtas (मुहूर्त) = 3 Horas (होरा) ]
4 Yaamas 1 half of the day (either day or night)
8 Yaamas 1 day (day + night)

Reckoning of time for Brahma.
12,000 years of the Devas = 1 day of Brahma (4320,000,000 human years). This day is divided into 10, 000 parts called charanas.
The charanas are divided as follows:
The Four Yugas
4 charanas (1,728,000 solar years) Satya Yuga
3 charanas(1,296,000 solar years) Treta Yuga
2 charanas(864,000 solar years) Dwapara Yuga
1 charanas(432,000 solar years) Kali Yuga
The cycle repeats itself so altogether there are 1000 cycles of yugas in one day of Brahma.
One cycle of the above four yugas is one mahayuga (4.32 billion solar years)
A manvantara consists of 71 mahayugas (306,720,000 solar years). Each Manvantara is ruled by a Manu.
After each manvantara follows one Sandhi Kala of the same duration as a Krita Yuga (1,728,000 = 4 Charana). (It is said that during a Sandhi Kala, the entire earth is submerged in water.)
A kalpa consists of a period of 1,728,000 solar years called Adi Sandhi, followed by 14 manvantaras and Sandhi Kalas.
A day of Brahma equals
(14 times 71 mahayugas) + (15 x 4 Charanas)
= 994 mahayugas + (60 Charanas)
= 994 mahayugas + (6 x 10) Charanas
= 994 mahayugas + 6 mahayugas

VEDIC TIME UNITS GREATER THAN A KALPA
Ancient vedic cosmology takes into account handful of time spans which are even greater than one Kalpa or a day of Brahma. One such unit is a "Maha-Kalpa" which is composed of 36000 such days of Brahma. One Maha-Kalpa is considered as the lifetime of Brahma. There are time units which are larger than one Maha-Kalpa. The largest of them has been calculated as several quadrillions of human years. This precise and massive calculations indicate one important aspect of vedic time system, that, whenever the term "Infinity" has been mentioned in Vedas, it does not indicate something very large. Instead, it appears that the term is meant to refer its literal synonym itself.
