That’s what I was looking for so much negligence like if players are complaining something had happend even if you choose not to award it and explain to the players it’s ok at least check it
It should be "constantly" checked as there's 4 video referees so they can play replays whilst watching the live footage as well. We need an explanation for those times it doesn't get checked, like how offside goals can even happen after VAR was introduced is just ridiculous.
The thing is VAR only puts footage for the refs to check but not for the fans so I don't I understand why they don't allow the fans to know about what is happening
Yeah we have such things in cricket where the 3rd umpire (or tv umpire) would talk on potential outs, legal play and etc. And thankful AIFF chairman has decided to implement such system with VAR in this year for Indian super league.
I opened the comment section on Bundesligas community post about promoted teams yesterday and everyone was talking about Fiago and how sad they felt for him. Heck, even the admin was replying to some of them💀💀
In Cricket, The Digital Review system footage is shown in the big screen in the stadium. And the decision is given by the Video assistant referee(umpire) himself. I think Football should also do that.
They should make it possible for us to hear them discuss the decision that they are about to make. This way we will understand why the decision is being made.
Yeah. In almost all big sports events I’ve been to (mid west USA) they will show a replay but it’s always either the worst angle or the camera cuts off before you can see anything. It’s like they have a designated cameraman who’s goal is to get the worst angles
If I'm not wrong, cricket has this practice during the DRS. Whenever there is a contentious decision, the incident would be shown in the stadium as well as the TV screens. It has been splendid overall
I went to sj earthquakes game in the mls back in 2019. There was a possible red card and they showed the replay on the screen. Even the players watched the replay. I hope this gets added in Europe soon too.
After seeing var a million times on tv with replays I was so confused to when they would show the replays in the actual stadium. Needless to say everyone was confused and mad at the ref
Not only that, but if you watch official highlights of matches on CZcams for games you missed, they often exclude the VAR decision - especially if it was an erroneous or controversial decision!
There's a similar thing in cricket called the DRS ( Decision Review System) but the fans in the stadium and players can also see what's happening on the big screen put in the stadium.
Actually in cricket we call it as DRS (Decision Review System) it is very helpful for the players, fans and importantly for umpires for making the decision.
Cricket has a similar thing called Third Umpire .They have been doing it since the 90's .They do show it on the stadium screen and the TV screens for some watching at home .
You can't ignore all those teams that straight up don't have a screen in their stadium and they just hope that they pass the info to the guy in the stadium's speaker.
I agree with this i was at a premier league game last month and they were checking a penalty but we could not tell what they were checking! They eventually showed the decision on the screen but it was confusing to everyone in the crowd.
In australia we have a popular rugby league competition, and it also has var (although it’s called the “bunker”) but they show what the var is looking at on the big screen, so football leagues should do the same
Why just rugby? All cricket matches in Australia(and everywhere in the World) shows the footage that the 3rd Umpire/TV Umpire is going through to make his decision.
In cricket there is a similar thing to var called drs where the third umpire checks the footages when the field umpires are not able to decide. The fans in the stadium just wait for the decision looking at the bug screen
In cricket we have the thing called 3rd Umpire or TV Umpire and whenever he checks an out, boundary or any other close calls, the footage that the TV Umpire is going through is shown on the giant screen on the field so yeah, the same thing is expected in football too.
I do agree with you that it is a huge problem, but the fans in the stadium would probably get even madder about a false decision amd it wouldn‘t make the hard job of a referee much easier….
In America, during American Football games, they usually play the video of the play and the referee can go over the loudspeaker to announce what they are reviewing, and then announce the decision after it has been reviewed. For example, the ref might turn his microphone on, and say "Kansas City is challenging the ruling on the field of a completed pass" and then say "The ruling on the field has been over turned" or "The ruling on the field stands as called"
I think a big way to improve it is allowing the reff to speak over the speakers explaining his description to give the fans closure in why he/she made the decision they did
I agree. The only reason why I see it not being shown in the stadium is maybe it might influence the decision based on crowd pressure? Idk but there's more problems than the intransparemcy
It should be on a coaches challenge system like in the NFL or MLB where the coaches get one challenge per game and are awakened another one should it be upheld with an additional challenge for overtime(extra time). I think it would create a new tactical element for coaches, be entertaining and help game flow
I remember at a world cup game ages ago there was a highlight shown of an incident, shoeong the referee made a blatant mistake. The players went ballistic on the ref, who had already made their decision
Look, my opinion is that not all VAR decisions should be viewed live on stadium TV. Some decisions such as penalty checks or offside should be shown as they are checked more often than not when the play is stopped. People go to the stadiums to watch the game, not the TV
Kinda shocking that they do not show replay to fans in the stadium. Coming from an american fan I have never been to a European match so I assumed they did. When it comes to American football and baseball here in the United States, anytime their is a review by officials they show the replay on a big screen. Fans always make their view known to the refs/umps. Along with the refs announcing to the stadium what is under review and the result of the review. Coaches are also given 1 challenge per game, if they win the challenge they keep their ability to challenge, if they lose it, they no longer have the ability to.
I’m an American, and as faulty as we are, there is at least a more transparent live review system, the officials typically announce what they’re reviewing and the stadium shows a replay. It makes the process more accessible to fans, but it also makes the home fans mad if they don’t get their way
The AFL (Australian Rules Football, different sport but still) shows VAR Replays on the screen and the Ref has a Mix that broadcasts through the Stadium Speakers.
As an American (yeah I know I know) it genuinely baffles me that refs in football are not mic’d up and explaining decisions. It is a completely no brainer change that virtually all other sports have, solves such an obvious and continuous problem, I can’t for the life of me understand why football in Europe resists this
Theres a difference in correcting mistake and just trying to find a reason to disallow a goal. A players thats less than a hair offside should not be counted as offside, because in a real game a lino would never be aboe to see that
In cricket it is always done when a decision by an onfield umpire is been reviewed by the third umpire and that helps the players to see the review and the fans also get exhilarated by it
I feel that they should probably also explain their thinking behind the decisions via announcements to the entire stadium that can be heard on TV, which can clear up controversy whilst also retaining transparency.
Old trafford has screens that show what they are checking for, eg. when I was at a game vs west ham, it showed they were checking for handball, and later on, checking for offside. I’m not sure if any other stadiums have this.
Rugby does it best. You get to hear the conversation between the VAR ref and the on field head referee, and usually the ref doesn’t walk over to a box, he just has the stadium guy play it on the big screen so that everyone can see what is being looked at.
In rugby they show all of the footage on the big screens. Refs look at those screens rather than their own little tiny monitors. If you’re at home, you can hear the full conversations too.
Fifa wants to have controversial moments so people Talk About It and more people listen about The problem and integrate to football. Sometimes they make wrong decisions on purpose to make controversial scenes for this
The coaches of the teams should be able to demand 3 VAR checks per game. That would make it even more fair because sometimes the refs and even VAR refs dont check scenes which are very controversial
The biggest problem is that they don't check it when they should alot of the time
exactly

In cricket, some stadiums do show the footage for the DRS(Decision Review Stadium)
Is it same like VAR which is show in a video or smth else?
They should add a microphone for referees to talk to fans through stadium speakers to clarify their decision like NFL
They already did started that in CWC

Australian sports have it on the big screen when a review happens

Thanks Swayam!
Prem league ref: he killed somebody, that’s a yellow card
Wait we actually have a new opinion, it was offside so there is no foul given
My idea to why they do it is if you let the players see the footage mid game, it’s going to lead to more arguing with referees
It’s to stop any abuse and influence from fans towards the referee during the game I’d assume
I was gonna write the same thing
That’s so weird that they don’t have anything for fans at the actual games
They should follow cricket

In cricket we do get the option to check the third umpire checking even in the stadium too.
they show the footage too
Here in Brazil stadiums are starting to show the VAR image being checked simultaneously to avoid this type of problems

If I am not mistaken they do show a freeze frame of the VAR decision (with lines) in Premier League stadiums
It's already being implemented in the Sub-20 FIFA World Cup
In America, during American Football games, they usually play the video of the play and the referee can go over the loudspeaker to announce what they are reviewing, and then announce the decision after it has been reviewed.
