- A CDC variant for the classic fat boy dry fly Humpy. Here we replace the traditional deer hair hump and wing with a couple of CDC hackles. If you find the original pattern with deer hair challenging, this is a great pattern to practice on, same technique, different material.
Hook: Mustad Heritage R30 # 12
Tying thread: Sheer 14/0 Black
Tail: Ginger Coq de Leon
Body: Red floss silk
Hump/wings: Two large CDC hackles
Hackle: Brown saddle hackle

Superb tie Barry.
Thank you kindly
I absolutely love watching video tutorials in the morning with my coffee. This one is awesome.
Thanks Jimmy, I'm pleased that I can share your morning coffee with you!
Awesome again you sure do amaze me with your tying! Thanks! Have a good day!
Thank you Richard.
Nice fly 🪰 certainly keeps you thinking about new ways of tying established patterns. I sometimes wonder what patterns would have been developed by the old masters with modern materials. Thank you for sharing your talents 👍
Thank you, yeah always room for variants...
Great instructional videos, just learning to tie simple effective patterns from your videos. Madame X and a Ant patterns right now. Thank you for your help.

Thanks Ed you are welcome.
Fantastic looking humpy. Hope too see you at Staffordshire and get my book signed.
Thanks Graham, yes I'll be there all being well!
This dude catches his hackle fibers with the whip finish and it ends up looking brilliant…meanwhile, I catch a *single* hackle fiber with my whip finish and it’s total chaos.
Its all to do with luck! Oh and lots of talent.😆
I tied one of the Damsel fly nymphs you had on a recent vid with flashy embroidery thread for the body, my brother snagged it out of my box, and wants more. lol
Excellent Brian, then you are doing something right!
👍
Thanks.
Dobry!!!! 💪🙂👍Pozdrowienia z Polski

Først, takk for en nydelig kanal, som færsk 56 år gammel nybeggyner er den blitt veldig viktig for å få til egne fluer, takk!

Hilsen Harald Inge Mathisen
Takk, aldri prøver denne på røye!
That's a great pattern. Your invention, Barry?
Thank you D, I wouldn't call it my pattern just a variant of an old good one.
Hey feather bender, I know it's not a material used in this video but I'm struggling to find some quality Pheasant tail centers. Any suggestions?
Hi, I don't know where you are based but this is one of the very best natural material suppliers that are around and they ship: cookshill-flytying.co.uk/feathers-for-herl-and-wings/
I think the wing is a bit too long, but other than that, really nice pattern.
Yeah maybe, but if you make it much shorter the trout won't see it, and that is a very important factor!
