  • On August 1st, 2022 ‪@jambalaseegrenada1295‬ staged the inaugural #JambalaseeFestival - A Celebration of Grenada's JabJab Culture.
The annual Jambalasee Festival seeks to highlight the indigenous aspects of the JabJab culture and provide a national and international platform for our traditional JabJab players.
The Jambalasee Festival aims to showcase the authentic sound of the JabJab and its indigenous practices. The festival will feature indigenous JabJab bands from around the island demonstrating authentic, cultural practices; JabJab chants, JabJab spelling, JabJab drum patterns, JabJab conch shell blowing patterns and JabJab paraphernalia.
Another aspect of the festival is the Sound of the Jab, Jab music. This is a crucial time for the JabJab sound, as it has already infiltrated the region and is spreading internationally.
Grenada has a rich catalogue of Jab songs that have defined and developed the Jab music genre. It is imperative that Grenada publicly claim ownership of this musical genre. Therefore, the Festival will highlight this important part of the culture by infusing artist performances with the Sound of the Jab, played by the respective Jab bands.
Through historical research, it becomes clear that La Baye and its surroundings have had a profound influence on the Jab culture.
Although Jab Jab is celebrated throughout the island of Grenada, the parish of St. Andrew, has one of the highest concentrations of Jab Jab bands per parish.
Contributing to the already tightly woven relationship between JabJab and La Baye is the fact that the 1991 genre-forming, road-march hit “Jambalasee Rule” was recorded in the parish of St. Andrew by La Baye-based musical band, M.O.S.S. International.
The date for the second staging of the Jambalasee Festival: JabJab Expo is Emancipation day, Tuesday, August 1st, 2023. SEE YOU THERE !
