Kai went from just another blacksmith in a family shop to saving the future Green Ninja to helping save the sixteen realms to watching a friend seemingly die to (temporarily) losing his powers to helping save Ninjago several times over, with no means of ever being able to escape his past. It's hard not to sympathize with a character arc as harsh as that.
Kai has become so cool over the years. I just wish he got more screentime in the newer seasons, he WAS the main character in the first 2 seasons after all. He's one of my favorite Ninjas and I love his personality.
