is there a reason you kept so many guys at lvl 5? new to darkest dungeon so dont know all the ins and outs

When you complete one "level" of the darkest dungeon, the 4 you used CANNOT go back in.
So you need at least 12 heros of level 5 or higher to do the dungeon. Level 6 doesn't really give you anything so I didnt worry about trying to get them to max
