    Hey Jonah, congratulations on your success on youtube That's just from my humble observation. You are one of my "go to guys" when surfing the net for harp tips. I consider myself an "advanced" player... but always looking for inspiration, and you provide it often. Keep up the good work.

    Jonah: Another great video! Hey, for those who are new to learning harmonica, I was having a very difficult time bending notes until I got the Hohner Rocket AMP at Jonah's suggestion. For older people like me, it made a tremendous difference and the price was just a little more than a Hohner Special 20. Thanks for the great advice on what Keys to buy, Jonah, and I look forward to many more of your videos. Hey, I understand in the future you might be offering a new online course. Is that true? If so, sign me up! Cheers.

      In terms of your practice, then, it could be said to have put a rocket up it. Sadly, I'm not very funny. But I'm glad to hear it has helped. I find the holes are a bit too big (like a rocket's windows) and prefer Special 20s which are the best for me if I can't afford to splash out on a Crossover :)

      @@tedmullaney8570 Hey, Ted. I am assuming you are referring to me and not the other person who commented on my post. How old am I? I am a disabled Vietnam vet (Marine Corps) who decided to seriously learn how to play harmonica just a few months ago. I was using a Seydel Lightning (stainless steel reeds) and was having a helluva time bending notes. I am taking private lessons from Jonah, and he suggested I try the Hohner Rocket. I ordered one from RockingRonsMusic (here in San Diego) and got it the next day. I took it out of the box and was bending Holes #1-4 within five minutes (I still have problems with Hole #6). I thought the Hohner Rocket AMP might work even better because it does not have side vents, so I ordered one and, sure enough, it is even easier to bend. I am slightly more successful now with the Seydel Lightning, but I love those Hohner Rockets, especially the AMP model. Hope that answered your question, Ted. Cheers.

    From low to high:
    G
    A
    Bb
    C
    D
    E (Maybe skip this one)
    F (F is kind of high, so consider substituting for a Low F instead, Low keys are hard to bend)

    Well I missed this video and bought one in C just to get started. Then I found a used lot of three: D, G, and A-so I bought them. Looks like I'm off to a good start. Three of them are Golden Melodies, one of which is the V2 (I much prefer the looks of the original Golden Melody), and a Blues Harp-it's the one in G. Just getting started, thanks for the vids.

  • @jeemalsoknownasjimhawkins1294

    Hey, Jonah fans: I ordered a Hohner Rocket in Low F from RockinRonsMusic here in San Diego and got it today. Holy harmonica! The low tones on it are other-worldly. I know it is kind of expensive and there are other Low Tone harmonicas out there, but this thing has amazingly low tones. This harp is similar to a Hohner Rocket Amp, in that it does not have side vents, so all the sound is projected outward. You might want to give it a try, and, no, I do not work for, or are sponsored by, Hohner or RockinRonsMusic. Cheers.

The sequence of chords are G D Em C G C G Em C D. I grab a G harmonica and start playing G and D when needed along the song. What do I do when I meet C and Em?? That’s awesome you can play that! You must be an experienced player. I’m kind of new at it. Trying to get single notes down at this point and trying to learn to bend notes. It’s not easy! I just downloaded the tabs for the song sounds of silence so tinkering with that too. Love the harmonica tho! Like anything else probably takes a lot of practice to get good!

      @zeropoint546 Před rokem +2

      @@allenhawker3911 By "played it", I meant I played the song on CZcams and kinda chugged my version over the top lol. I've been playing for most of my life though and I'm 48 now, so yeah I can play by now I guess. Blowing harp is a funny thing though, once you get those single notes and bending down, and learn a couple of simple licks, which seems damn near impossible at first, soon become second nature like breathing. I was pretty lucky though, most of my friends when I was a kid played some kind of instrument, and we would jam together all the time. We all got pretty damn good actually, 2 of them still play professionally (drums and guitar). Awesome way to learn. And pick up chicks at parties haha.

    (Noob) Question: If you're at a Blues Jam, and someone calls out a key, you would need to pick a harmonica to fit that key?
    I really like the sound of the G & low F. I don't play any instruments right now. (drums and trombone in grade school / 100 yrs ago) Leaning towards learning the bass, but keep coming back to the harmonica. Any thoughts for someone who just wants to play some blues, maybe jam once in a while? Thanks!

  • @MrRezillo
    @MrRezillo Před měsícem

    I'm surprised you didn't mention the Eb harp - a must have if you're jamming with horn players, since the "Bb blues" is a standard jazz key. Be aware that most blues guitar players hang out in the sharp keys, whereas piano and horn players will generally prefer to play in flat keys. Somehow flat keys lend themselves to a 'bluesy" timber and sound more than sharp keys do.
