You do not have to separate the grounds and Neutrals in those two panels under the 2020 NEC as long as you label the transfer switch as an EMERGENCY DISCONNECT
Just wondering why you double lugged the load conductors, are those the type that are rated for two- 1/0-250 conductors. Also what type of torque wrench is that? Thanks, nice video!
Double lugged because at 400A it’s cheaper to parallel.
I think the torque wrench was a Quinn
So this Generac 400 Amp ATS does have the double lugs on the line side of the transfer module then? AWG Copper size would be 600kmil and the lug would be just a bit over 3/4" inside diameter to accommodate the Copper at that size.
What size wire do use for generator for 400 amp
Thank you
Do you service liquid cooled units in Waukesha county? My Generac dealer is incompetent and I’m searching for a new dealer.
I don't get it, how can you legally back up (2) 200 amp panels with a 100 amp generator? Must have been a lot of load shedding and SMM used. Please explain this
Thanks for posting this. So the load lugs are rated for 2 conductors under each lug? That's what the manual indicated and looks like that's what you have done as well.
Just surprised there aren't double lugs for each phase
question --- why are there 4 "hots" at the top of the ATS if the feed is coming from a 400A/320A Meter Socket can? Wouldn't one set of "Hots" be what would be coming from the Meter - Power Source? Please help me understand! Thanks!
@@RipleySartain And the Parallel Feeders ARE NEEDED (I take it) because the wire size cannot carry the full 400Amp at 400/320VAC current so it has to be divided up by running two conductors -- And I assume the conductor was Aluminum? So if you were to run a single copper wire of 600 kcml would that work in the Transfer switch lugs?
@@retiredperson4054 they are not needed and we could have just gotten large copper conductors but it’s more cost effective to be ram in this manner
Isnt ilegal to put (2) wires under one lug? Looked like you had the Line Side of Transfer switch double tapped and also on the netrual bar. Seems that would be a violation?
Unless it’s rated for it they look like snowman or it will be etched into the face
Why not just run dual 200s to each panel? Half the price
Why does every CZcams electrician just love shoving their fingers into live panels to point to things. Must. Touch. Everything. Let’s see if he dies or not. But if anything you’re just making it normalized for people watching without any safety training that it’s okay to just stick your hand in there and touch just about anything. 🤦♂️. Less competition.
The power is off, he is using a battery powered LED light hence all the shadows. Some people just want to know how it works rather than do the installs themselves so when they speak to an electrican they understand some terms and possible therory. Typically a full standby generator isn't a DIY project. It requires an understanding how the service works.
This is what i need, but its so expensive compared to just getting 2-200ampATS.
