This is the one band that kinda DOESNT make me immediately go play because just listening to him is possibly more exciting? This is the only band I found in years that makes me so happy.

Tosin Abasi started his own brand & he built a copy of this Ibanez. I contacted Ibanez to make me an 18 String White Fanned Fret Guitar which has 9 pairs of strings.
I believe the design of the guitar was his own in the first place
Seems like Tosin Abasi is going back to the old school with his home rig : tube amp and pedalboard. I suppose he still uses the Axe-fx on stage for convenience and tone stability.

I can't speak for his more recent performances, but when he performed this past summer 2016 on the Generation Axe tour when it came through my town, he was using most of the setup seen in this video. I think his time spent with Vai, Nuno, Yngwie and Zakk swayed him in this new direction as far as gear is concerned.

just as i suspected. i think it's a question of having the smallest gear you can bring with you.
nothing against fractal, but it is nice to see he can get great sounds from "normal" rig
sure, i perfectly understand why people use it. probably, he first creates his sounds with the "real deal", then i samples it, so he can have a pretty accurate sound live without having to carry with him all those pedals.

Russel Blacker On tour, yeah. Probably brings the smallest rig he possibly can. At home though and in the studio he can use as much real gear as he wants, and later profile it into the Fractal or something

SteelSkin667 so basically this is his home setup and when he plays live he uses the Axe FX. That's understandable considering the amount of dancing he would have to on his pedalboard live
Noah Dockery Yes, the AxeFX is great for not having to lug tons of gear around, too. Apparently flying with a lot of equipment gets real expensive real fast.

I really dislike "Progressive Metal" and I definitely don't like Animals as Leaders at all but DAMN, this kid is such a good player.
Those clean, jazz-infused arpeggios are such a strong trademark of his. I'd love an album based on this quiet side of him.
