My goodness, I found out the interpreter's name is Jason Lim whom I met almost 20 years ago at the Dahn center's seminar. At that time I thought he is the best Korean interpreter I've ever met and looking at this video I was thinking this person is as good as Jason. It's crazy to find out this person is the same Jason I had met.

Great insight! Every religion has common grounds and fundamental differences. If people create conflict with the fundamental differences it leads to endless wars and if they understand differences and find common grounds, they can coexist peacefully

      [Google Translation]
Traditional Buddhism is Buddhism that prays for good fortune. Make a lot of money, make you pass the exam, make you heal, this is most of the time. It does two things. If you see a lot of money, you are blessed. If you go to bow and pray a lot, you will be blessed a lot. All are similar. This is traditional Buddhism, and all religions are.
However, these religions have little to do with the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha or Jesus. It is good to leave the issues of Buddhism and Christianity as religions. Since everyone has a desire, we have no choice but to rely on it. This is a history from the primitive times. But the Buddha said this was not desirable. So he opened a new path. However, even Buddhism has entered its original path. So, what we have to think about today is not to go back to the original Buddha's words, but to go back to the past, but to return to the consciousness of problems that the Buddha had. The same goes for Christianity.
So there is [religion as truth] and there is [religion as faith]. Religion as a belief is established only when you have the confidence that your religion is the most right. So, it is inevitable that conflicts between religions arise. When a couple fights, they can reconcile in a day. If there is a war between countries, reconciliation takes place in 30 years. Religion cannot be resolved even after 1,000 years of war. Religion teaches peace, why this contradiction arises, because the nature of religion is based on the belief that only it is right. However, since religion as truth rather seeks truth, the eyes of the world are widened, and the way to recognize different things and cooperate with each other is opened. So, let's leave religion as faith as faith in the personal realm. Because faith is an individual's freedom, there is no need to discuss it right or wrong. It is not something that can be said about faith. But the younger generation should look at religion as truth. What is the truth, whether it is seen in Christianity, Buddhism, or science, such restrictions must be lifted. If you stand in such a point of view, the walls of ideas break down, wisdom is acquired, and practical actions emerge. So, while respecting traditional religion, there is no need to dwell too much on it.
In the old days, because they lived in closed conditions, they concentrated on such things as their ethnicity, ethnicity and religion. So I had to have exclusivity. Now we have an open world. Many races and ethnic religions are mixed. So we must take a new look. The religion of the past was 3,000 years and 5,000 years, and in the primitive age, man could think so. We don't have to follow it, we don't have to deny it. At that time, the level of human perception was only that way. We now live in a different world. So, I hope we will work with an open mind.
Wow... It's such a wonderful word, I wanted to write it. Sorry if it was too long.

And if you do go that deep, you would be labeled heterodox by your church peers.

The nature of Buddhism, of faith in general, is to not be stuck to one specific way. With Buddhism not declaring who or what [God] is, faith and truth are personalized to each individual. And any contradictions of "what is suppose to be" is in itself, a falsehood. Only you can decide what you believe in.
For the literal "by the book" definition, (most) Chinese Buddhism is an individual pursuit. (Most) Korean Buddhism is about congregation, sharing with others.

It would do us good if the monks / priests who make up the religion followed a bit more the early texts, the Agamas and the Nikayas. There are lots of very good answers to our modern problem there. And it's certainly closer to what the Buddha may have taught 🙏

      You are totally wrong...
Buddha is not mentioned as an Avatar of Vishnu in the more ancient Vaishnava Texts known as Pancharatra. His place there is taken by Balarama.
Adopting Buddha into the Hindu pantheon was a way of trying to neutralize the popularity of Buddhism.
Buddhism as an organised religion actually predates modern Hinduism. The First Buddhist council was a gathering of senior monks of the Buddhist order convened just after the Buddha’s death in 400 BCE. At this time there was no such religion as Hinduism - the dominant religion was known as Brahmanism which consisted of 6 major philosophical sects:-
Hinduism as we know it today can be attributed to the pioneering work of Shankaracharya 788 to 820 CE who consolidated the 5 modern Hindu Sects and established the 10 orders of Hindu monks (dasa-nāma-sanyāsis) based on the Buddhist model and established four great pontifical seats on the four points of the compass. Most Hindus today are associated with one or other of these four pontifical seats.
You should try to read the real history of india and not the fake one's spreaded by Rss....

This guy gets it. All faith traditions contain an element of chicanery left over from ancient magic. BUT the con artists do not define the religion itself; they simply pervert it for the wrong ends.

Korean Buddhism was same with that of China until Wonhyeo of Silla changed everything. From that Wonhyeo's teaching Korean Buddhism changed a lot. Wonhyeo insist that faith & truth is entirely up to how individual believes. If you think this guy is joke then it's joke to you don't think others will think same as you. Chinese failed to understand this very often.

Don't discriminate against religion. You can be both christian and buddhist at the same time! That's the teaching of both Buddha and Jesus. Don't draw a line.

That's not true. Buddhism and cristianism are two different religions with different worldviews, despite the similarities between them.

Buddha attained nirvana coz of his good deeds and enlightenment unlike Jesus who was crucified for claiming being the son of God. Buddha never claimed to be anyone's son, nor did he call himself a God.

She is right, in Korean buddhism there is a lot of emphasis on what they call "together action"... It's specific to Korean culture. They don't like to practice or do anything alone that much.

The translator missed all the nuances and is fumbling too much. He committed a grave mistake!!!! He's adding his own personal interpretations rather than translating what the monk is saying. That's the number one unprofessional practice of an interpreter.
You'd only be able to understand what I'm saying if you're fluent in both languages.

Korean always like to glorify itself. to properly say, it does not exist any Korean version of Buddhism. There is only a Chinese Buddhism of which many schools spread over Korea, Japan, Vietnam.

Do u know a korean monk, Won Hyo? He provided a key concept in East Asia Buddhism. Chinese masters who were heavily influenced by Wonhyo include Fazang, Li Tongxuan, and Chengguan. The Japanese monks Gyonen, Zenshu and Joto of the Kegon school were also influenced by him.
And Kim Gyo-gak(Jin Qiaojue) was a Korean Buddhist monk believed to be the manifestation of Ksitigarbha in China.
