    Keep 4 large blue ice packs in your freezer. When power goes off move 3 to refrigerator. Should be good for 24 hrs.

    I appreciate your videos. I bought a pair of Ocelot Pros a year or so back due to your review and love them. I was unable to really pedal at all at first due to hip pain, rode it like a motorcycle mostly, but I had a hip replacement the last day of Feb this year. It was life changing, 10 weeks after surgery I was riding and able to pedal normally. My other hip is bad as well, but not as bad as the replaced one was. I’m having a second one replaced the last day of Aug (soon), and I absolutely can’t wait! The point is just to say that I put off the hip replacement longer than I should have and if I had it to do over I’d have done it 2 years ago. My surgeon said hips are not as bad to recover from as knees. They often don’t even prescribe PT these days as it’s not needed. I can vouch for that. Keep moving!

    I wrapped the ice pack around my knee with my ace bandage. And for the extension I started with one can in 2 bags tied the bags together and put it over my knee, while I sat on a chair and put my foot on the coffee table. I have better extension then I do with the bend.

    We get power outages once in a while so we purchased a portable gas generator a few years ago. It will run the refrigerator, air conditioner and tv and wifi. So it is really nice to have in case of emergencies. We have had to use it at least 3 times. We have to have it to run our sump pumps when it rains a lot so our basement will not flood. Glad you and Mrs. Right were safe during the tornado.

    We had a Ice storm a few years back that took power out for a little over a week. Trees all over the place fell down and that was the major issue. You couldn't go anywhere by car. All the neighborhood got together over at the house that had full power due to a gasoline generator. We became good friends over that period of time. We had gas stove so we were able to get heat if we wanted. We didn't need to worry about the refrig since the temp outside was below freezing.

    it doesn't take too many solar panels to generate a useful amount of electricity that you can store in a power bank for emergency purposes, you can also use it like you did- to charge tablets, phones, etc. Many power banks have an AC inverter now, and all those USB ports for charging etc. Just have to make sure the wattage of the AC inverter is enough to handle a good 1500W at least, so you can run some appliances on it, like your fridge, It sounds like you have a good power bank! if it can run a fridge. I can run an air conditioner on my LiFePo4 batteries with a 3000W AC inverter

    In 1992 we went thru the Andrew hurricane disaster, no power for 3 days, no services, barely any food cause we were not prepared. it was like being back in the Commie paradise called Cuba.

  • @DJaquithFL
    @DJaquithFL Před měsícem

    We live in SW FL and have a whole house generator and most hurricanes occur when it's hot outside in the '90s. So it's not only the refrigerator but it's also the people inside suffering through the heat not to mention we work from our home.
    Considering I'm surprised how few people have whole house generators. The cost is around $25,000 to $35,000 or more. However I live in an area where the houses are at least $1M and higher. Some powered by natural gas and others by buried propane tanks. The problem is hurricanes can wipe out your electricity for days or even a week or two at a time.

    Our local electric company in Turkey decided last week to do major maintenance work meaning no power all day when temperature is 42°C/100°F so went to the beach which is only a couple of miles away. Checked the internet and general consensus was that providing you left door closed items in freezer should be Ok for 24 hours if half filled and 48 hours if full.

    Fill empty space in your freezer with 1 or 2 liter bottles of water. Freezer will operate better with less dead air space. When you loose power transfer some to refrigerator. Just like putting block ice in a cooler.

    I’ve had both knees and both hips replaced.
    The hips were a much easier recovery even when I had them done using the traditional posterior approach 12 years ago. Now they are doing most of them with the anterior approach that shortens the recovery time even more. No one who needs a hip replacement should put it off. Hip replacements are really quite easy to recover from.
    Russ, you say that your doctor doesn’t see anything wrong with your hip. I’m assuming that you mean nothing on x-ray? If that’s the case, a hip replacement is not going to help you. If the joint is ok, you may have soft tissue problems with the hip-maybe MRI would help diagnose what is wrong? That shows soft tissue that x-ray doesn’t show.
    I had both knees replaced in 2023, one at a time eight weeks apart. Some people have them replaced both at the same time, but I live alone and needed to be able to take care of myself from day one, so I had them done separately, so I still had a good leg to rely on. I did fine, but the knee replacement is definitely a longer recovery process compared to the hip.
    The hips were really pretty easy. The first few weeks were a little rough, but after that, it was pretty much smooth sailing.
    The biggest problem I have left over from the knee replacements is that I never did get all my strength back. I didn’t have any trouble with range of motion. No actual complications. But strength is definitely not as good as it was before, even with my badly arthritic knees. I just saw my surgeon for the one year follow up. He says that no one should have long-term strength loss from knee replacements, but I hear this from post knee replacement patients frequently. I don’t know whether surgeons just can’t admit it or what. Maybe they’re afraid people won’t have it done if they think they’re going to have some permanent strength loss. Not everybody experiences this. But I do think a fair number do even if they don’t have any actual complications. I did all my physical therapy exercises, walked as much as I could, everything that you’re supposed to do. It’s still an issue one year later. That’s one of the reasons I’m so thrilled to have an e-bike. It makes up for the loss of strength.

      Their Commuter bike is totally different than any of their other bikes. It only had a 36 volt Battery and it was integrated into the downtube. It also had no gears and was belt driven. I think the concept was to keep it as lightweight as possible. But that smaller battery was likely a different design than their regular 48 and 52 volt batteries. It worked for the bike, but its drawback was the self discharge.
