    I install a large tiewrap loosely around the dpf to use as a handle along with a pry bar to support the dpd when manuvering the dpf into place.

    Cleanest damn doc outlet ive ever seen. Overall the job is pretty doggone easy though. That Detroit tool is trash and I've never been able to set either filter correctly with it. For me, I use the rear band clamp to kind of set the filter in place, then use 2 pry bars like the one pictured to finish lining up the filter. Easy way to tell if it's lined up is to check that the forward v band clamp is perfectly upright, with no variance in offset between top and bottom of filter (what you can see from where you're working).
    If I don't have to fight the sensors (somewhat common) and if I don't have to grind off most if not all of the heat shield bolts (almost every time) I usually get a dpf change done in just under 2 hours.

      During a parked regen, you're gonna wanna see somewhere between 975-1200 for doc inlet and doc outlet (those two should be within 100° of each other for the most part) and anywhere from 850-930ish for dpf outlet. That shows that the unit is dosing properly and the proper cleaning is being achieved.

    Hello, do you have any videos addressing def quality issues ?

    • @TheDieseler

      +Benjamin Bates unless you believe there's a chance your DEF has been contaminated or is genuinely of poor quality, DEF Quality faults are usually related to poor NOX Conversion Efficiency. Check this out.

    Whats the part number for the tool to align the DPF?

      Dont bother with it. It sucks. We have one at the shop and I gave up trying to make it work after my 4th or 5th job. 2 medium sized pry bars and patience will get you through.

    OK, I'm a bit confused here. Are you replacing the DPF because they are dirty and plugged or because they "died" ?
    Do these "stop" working(reacting, scrubbing the exhaust) after a PRESET number of miles(PLANNED OBSOLESCENCE $$$$) ?
    I thought as long as you kept cleaning them and flowing thru they would work "forever". I guess forever was too long and too good to be true.

      JIGA BACHI This particular job was special circumstances. The truck has about 600,000 miles. This is the second time the filters have been cleaned. Time was a factor and it needed to be done fast so washing was not an option. This truck runs a good duty cycle so we would use air cleaning on it but our machine was down for maintenance. Pre cleaned Reman filters were the best option.

    How did the cover come off without removing the thermocouple for the DOC?

    • @TheDieseler
      @TheDieseler  Před 6 lety +1

      +Marcus Jones It lifts up and sort of tilts as it moves to the side. The temp sensor and connector then move through the hole in the shield.

      I didnt think about just unplugging the sensor. I'll try that next time. I usually just pull the sensor unless it's seized...in which case it still comes out and then I get the joy of rethreading the bung.
