    Man that looks like fun. I’m in the process of building a pond on my property here in Alabama. We’ve been clearing the land of trees and brush. My neighbor has a dozer and excavator. He will help me dig it either next month or January. Hopefully we can have it dug before the spring. I am very nervous about it. I think it’ll work out.

    Make sure you float your fish in the bag for at least a half an hour so that they can get used to the temperature of the lake and won't catch a disease called ick , could because it will kill them and it comes from the fish not being acclimated to the temperature of the lake and they get something like a bad cold that will kill your fish

    Nice southern pirate,... I'm going to be doing a lake or pond... Between 3 and 5 acres big depending on how big they tell me I can do it without compromising the property... I have a soil scientist coming out to make sure I can actually put one in my area... So far it looks like it's going to be okay but after the soil scientist gets there I'll know for sure... plus I'll know the cost. Nice job on your little pond it doesn't take a lot of water to produce a lot of fish... Although on my project I'm seeking to create a bassmaster's Haven for trophy fish.. I will also be doing a documentary and filming on it... Since I'm an old man I will have my grandchildren posted for me hahaha.. I hope you continue to catch wonderful catfish... I will keep the world posted along with you buddy

    I just subscribed and I thank you for this great video!! Do you happen to have one that explains how to start by digging a pond?? I'll go look on your channel but I have 5 and a 1/2 acres roughly in Oregon on top of a mountain a mountain and I need a food source That is reliable enough enough to feed my cat's dogs and my family family. Sorry for any duplicated words here my my smartphone is not that Smart!
    But thank you this is really cool I would actually appreciate finding anything that tells me how long the whole thing takes. I understand the digging process I am thinking about laying fabric along the bottom and then putting pebbles sand and rocks at the bottom. In addition I need to know what kind of fish to put in to start and what what time I have to wait before putting in bass before putting in bass and trout
    The reason I have for wanting to put the fabric down is because I would also like to be able to swim in this pond pond and don't want so much dirt clouding up the water.
    Lastly I plan on using a lot of water plants water plants and water grasses in order to help filter filter the water that's going into the pond during the rain as well as to have another food source
    Again thank you for the video and I have subscribed and will recommend to my friends

I got the Cumberland River on one side of me and way too much green on the other, not enough water. So I’m definitely gonna need to have a place to put what I catch from the Cumberland River. My question is this though. With these man-made fish ponds, is there any winter care that Hass to be taken.?

    • @SouthernPirateOutdoors
      @SouthernPirateOutdoors  Před 3 lety +5

      You will really be surprised with proper management and food. They don’t get that big in three years eating just minnows. You have to constantly restart with fingerling Bluegill a few times a year. I just put up an otter fence around the pond. Constantly pumping fresh well water. This helps the ecosystem. It’s a good idea to throw sacks of crawfish in every year as well. I’m talking a couple hundred pounds. The crawfish reproduce good on their own but every year I add more. Florida Bass grow fast. They eat everything and constantly grow. More food, the faster they grow. Compared with traditional largemouth bass. Believe it or not, it even has a lot to do with the soil the pond was dug in. I’ve been putting ponds in for people for a living for over 30 years. We build ponds and lakes, even build cement goldfish ponds. Ponds with 45 mm pond liner. To grow trophy bass you have to work the land, put money in the water and a lot of work. Not just dig a hole big or small and think mother nature is going to do it because she’s not. 🏴🏴‍☠️🏴
