the rose was already the rose before they joined the super band. Doojon invited woosung for a performance and it clicked for all the members so they continued together. I think they were busking before they joined the company and then joined the super band.

@@AudioAddictionmedia Yep, they auditioned on Superband but only Woosung got through. Where Woosung DID start was from an audition show from WAY back called Kpop Star from which people like BM, AKMU, and more had their start. They were originally Windfall internally but their company made them change it to The Rose.
I’m sure people already addressed that the superband woosung story was not how the Rose came to be, that origin story actually belongs to the band LUCY! Which you later mention and I also SUPER HIGHLY recommend you check out/deep dive one day as well.

About the whole “are bands K-pop or are they not K-pop” debacle: some are K-pop and some aren’t K-pop. At least when it comes to my definition of K-pop. K-pop to me is Korean idol music. If a band is signed to a label and are marketing themselves as idols, then I consider them to be K-pop. So basically, Day6 and Xdinary Heroes are still K-pop, The Rose used to be K-pop, but returned to indie after leaving J&STAR. The ones that aren’t K-pop tend to be more obscure (at least internationally), but such bands would be ones like Touched and Nell.
agreed, and there's a whole debate now about "what even is kpop" with the global groups taking off and it's fascinating to see everything play out, so for now we try to use the terms loosely -Therese
The Rose fandom name : Black Rose
The Rose is a band which is composed of four members :
1. Hajoon (Vocalist, Drummer and Rapper).
2. Woosung (Vocalist, (Electric) Guitarist and Leader).
3. Jaehyeong (Vocalist, Maknae, Visual and Bassist).
4. Dojoon ((Acoustic) Guitarist, Vocalist and Keyboardist).
They debuted in 2017 with their 'Sorry' Single.

The Rose 🌹🌹🌹 I'm starting to get to know them since last year. In love with their music and songs. Ateez and the rose is my only kpop fave. ❤
My first K-pop group was got7 and only them for a few years. It wasn’t until early last year that I got into bts. Saw a random mv of the rose later last year and fell in love with woosungs voice and their songs. Those 3 are my main and only K-pop loves ❤. Woosung said they’re more popular overseas than in Korea so I love seeing new fans discovering them!

I also got into kpop because of GOT7, actually because of Jinyoung and then BTS. These are the 2 groups that I stan. Just figured out The Rose and love them. I will also go to their concert soon and that will be my first one 😊

To clear up a lot of misunderstanding. The back story for The Rose is several stories that merge into one. Woosung, the lead singer, is from California. He competed in an idol show KPOP Star. He did not win, but from that, he signed with a company and stayed there for three years before leaving, with thoughts of not pursuing music. Dojoon, the keyboardist, and one of the other members were trainees together, and then the last member was a friend of Dojoon's. At some point, Dojoon and Woosung meet as drinking buddies. Dojoon, the bassplayer Jaehyeong and the drummer Hajoon had all left their separate companies and started a 3 man band named Windfall ( busking in Hongdae. Dojoon invited Woosung, who had left his 1st company for a guest appearance with the band. After that guest appearance, Woosung joined, and the band became The Rose and signed with JStar. Who they eventually sued for overwork and non payment. They did not win, but they got to keep their name, which is why there are no MVs from that time due to the company taking them down. Except for Beauty and the Beast, which was the last song released under the company, while the band members were on military hiatus. During the contract dispute, the 3 Korean citizens served their military service, while Woosung put out two Solo EPs and a single. In 2022, they reunited and released their first full album, Heal. Followed by the release of the second full album Dual.
As for Superband, The Rose as a whole began the competition. However, the concept of Superband is that individuals are eliminated and put into different groupings into several "Superbands." Woosung was the only member who advanced to the band formation part of the competition. He was part of the band Monet, which did not win the competition, but they seriously should have. I apologize for the book.

I know I am going to enjoy this deep dive. Thank you Therese for suggesting this group deep dive. I've only recently discovered when a friend invited me to their concert this past November. Immediately after telling her I would like to go I started checking out their discography and was hooked. By the time the concert date came I was able to sing along to some of the songs. They were my 2nd kpop concert ever, first was Mamamoo last May😊😊.
I have 5 groups that I fully follow , love,and, that have captured my attention.

She's in the Rain actually has a MV, it's hard to find because it was taken down for a small clip that hadn't been cleared to be used.

The drummer Hajoon created the melody of Sorry and Woosung wrote the lyrics and the band built on that song; this being there debut song was well receive overseas and was offered to tour. This information was relayed by Woosung in one their many interviews.
The Heal tour and the Dawn to Dusk tour have both been bus tours with 20 cities in the US/ Canada. The US leg of the Dual tour just finished in November of 2023. The Asia leg was short with 4 countries and an appearance at Lolapoloza India last month. The European leg starts next month and tours at least 15 cities. I saw The Rose Oct. 23 and Nov. 23 in Salt Lake City, and in the Dallas metroplex. I am seeing them this year in April in Antwerp Belgium and Paris France.
Also, between the Heal Tour and Dusk to Dawn tour. The Rose performed at several festivals.
