    Really found this useful. I particularly liked your emphasis on taking your time cutting the lino. For me this will be good therapy and mindful. Plenty of time to be in flow and appreciate "now". Looking forward to my equipment arriving over the next few days to start enjoying this new creative hobby. Thanks for sharing.🙏

    If you want the linoleum to cut easier you can place a piece of paper or newsprint over it and use a household iron on a med-low setting to warm it up.

    this takes me back to 1975 and my design college days . when we were missing from classes youd find us at the beach surfing. We shaped and glassed our own boards, mostly MR twin fins back then and we experimented with linocuts wood yellotoungue woodcuts ??? potato cuts and hibiscus Hawaiian flowers in black and colours on our rails as well as step and repeat printing . despite all the surfing and flunking school we passed. waaaaaaa what memories surfs up!

    • @briantrend1812

      Dont make our mistakes, after designing great logos for our surfboards we photo stated our designs onto fine tissue paper or rice paper( hard to find). and glassed them under the 6 onz fibreglass cloth. they came out great considering they were carbon stats copied on our local library stat machine. However different stat copier machines are not always maintained properly so some of our logos spread the carbon due to the chemical reaction of the mek hardner in the resin and the logo carbon and the beautiful surfboard and all the processed work got ruined on lamination. No choice but to paint over it and try again. so if you do stat try different copiers around town and label them. Heat is supposed to fuse the carbon and dry it. rubbing testing with your fingers on the carbon is not going to solve it. its trial and error. if you use fixative to fix it permanently it may close the tissue and block the resin from saturating the paper and form air bubbles in the lamination I'm experiment with this. In printing there is a thing in lithography called "packing" which is extra small areas of fine paper backing the art sheet youre hand printing on to give a good solid print. The packing paper is placed in the areas not printing well definitely help the final print. you can tear a little piece or pieces or a whole sheet backing "packing" If printing onto fine tissue paper for logos and gifts etc use a full backing sheet to absorb excess ink saturating through the first tissue. a master printer knows all about packing, its an art . they use it a lot in unforgiving lithography metal printing of deodorant , motor oil and cake tins/ metal tin sheet production, unlike paper and card tin plate, doesn't absorb ink. here there is a lot of step and repeat printing which you can do with lino cuts as well.

      It's possible to get fine detail (I'm not sure about the exact line width you mentioned), but most people don't spend the time or effort doing that. I'm not really sure if there are tools made that thin.

      @@joan-lisa-smith I thought it might be a situation where if one likes clean looking prints, without much grit, they'd probably like lino more. There's gotta be a difference between the look of the final product between woodcut and lino, but I've never heard anyone speak on it..

    • @caroltaylor3414
      @caroltaylor3414 Před 5 lety

      Aren't Gelli prints usually mono prints? This way you can make as many as you want... say you were doing a bunch of greeting cards. You could use this lino cut to print onto your gelli after layering paint on the gelli, waiting till all layers were dry and then lifting it onto paper. Your background colors would be different with each print, but your flowers (from the lino cut) would be the same.
