In this Goulet Q&A episode, Brian talks about 3D printed pens, boutique inks, and diluting inks.
1) Manav A. (10:12)
Did you know Jim Rouse? I understand he just passed away, His SIG nibs are truly incredible
2) gadgetstop321 (14:43)
I know many pens are turned on a lathe or made from injection molded plastic. Have you heard of any pens being made with a 3D printer?
3) Alejandra B. (17:25)
Why do people dilute inks with water? Is it to make them less dry? Maybe to make them shade better? Can you alter the wetness/dryness of an ink? (Lots of love from Spain!)
4) Carole V. (23:20)
What are considered 'boutique inks'? I've inherited a couple of vintage pens, and there is some common advice to avoid these and to use 'standard inks'. On FPN, one reader stated it was inks from smaller companies, but I'm guessing there's more to it. Could this be a Q&A question?
5) kolecoomer (31:10)
Can you talk about some of your personal favorite brands that Goulet doesn't carry? I.e. Conid, Bexley, Franklin Christoph, etc. And now that opus 88 has been such a hit. Can we expect some fresh new brands from Goulet? Thanks for keeping the pen dream alive!
QOTW: What are your favorite summer (travel) pens, inks, paper? (42:57)
Writing Prompt: Write about the most memorable trip you ever went on. (43:29)

Thank you, Brian. And thank you again for the interview with Nathan.
Hi Brian, Very glad you and Rachel were able to participate in the NPM Conference. The events I was able to view via Live Stream were pretty inspirational, informative and uplifting. Sorry you guys got sick coming off that time off... Bummer. This Q&A was really on point. I too am watching Additive Pens, very interesting design. I have tried Colorverse Gravity Wave samples and love the color. It will probably be my next purchase. Finally, I really liked your reflection on Jim Rouse's Passing. The manner of his sudden death gives us all pause. Prayers for the family and all in the pen community affected by his passing, wishing them comfort. Again thanks to the Goulet Family for all you contribute to us by way of on-going education, support and information as well as reliable customer service and consistent friendly purchase experiences.
I am absolutely in love with Schrodinger. Such an amazing green color.
I love going to this Channel, to get recommendations on different pens, since I just started getting into Calligraphy, Brush Calligraphy, and Lettering.
Schrodinger & Cat are both exquisite color choices. The beautiful sparkling ink of Cat is especially nice to write with
I'm loving the Colorverse Morning Star! Thanks Team Goulet for all you do!
Congrats! You're one of the lucky winners for the Colorverse giveaway! Just email us at social@gouletpens.com and we'll work to get that shipped out early this week. Enjoy Hayabusa! :) - Colin
Great video as usual! My favorite Colorverse ink is Extra Dimension & Warped Passages!
Colorverse Hayabusa is my favorite. And I too was surprised to see how young Nathan is. I thought he was much much older. Loved the video.
Thanks for the Q & A! Sorry you're not feeling well. For Colorverse, my favorite is Morning Star - love it!
I always enjoy your videos. Thank you for all you do! I’ve been using fountain pens for almost a year now, and I’ll never go back to regular pens. I am just now starting to get excited about inks and the different types. I haven’t tried Colorverse yet. But would love to try them out to see what I like.
As far as summer inks and paper, I can say that up until this point I have been using Noodlers Black, Liberty’s Elysium, and Legal Blue. I didn’t start sparking an interest in new inks until summer hit. I can see myself wanting to migrate toward teals and lavenders and more vibrant inks for summer. Also, shimmer/sheening inks are becoming more of my vibe for summer.
Thank you for all your informative videos. They got me back to using fountain pens. As for my favourite Colorverse ink I love my Colorverse Dark Energy.
Colorverse Supernova is my favorite, would love the shirt. You do great work, love your videos & your staff is the best when I have ordered stuff. Peace, Peter
Brian, thanks for another interesting Q&A. I also enjoyed the interview with Nathan very interesting.
Regarding the new products etc, what you said makes total sense, in that GPC is the interface between the product and the customer and is left "holding the bag" in a sense when someone needs help. I have had two occasions where I needed to interact with the customer service people, and in both cases it was a wonderful experience.
Regarding the Colorverse colour I will vote for Pale Blue Dot.
Just found your company so I don't have a favorite color yet, but the new lilac color sounds nice. T-shirt is cool.
Thanks for the interview with Nathan. Love that he still has every bottle land on his Grandfather's stereo cabinet top. I have not had the opportunity to try Colo verse inks as of yet, but I have my eye on Ondremeda...I think that's what it's called. Thanks to the entire team for this and all the education you provide.
I really love Gravity Wave from Colorverse. Such a beautiful sheen on that ink!
Definitely gotta pick the beautiful Colorverse Supernatural. That shade of green is the best. Thanks for the contest Brian!
Being a turquoise lover I have wanted to try Horizon!
Was such a treat to actually see Nathan. I thought he was older than he is.
I’m really enjoying Colerverse Laurel! It’s a very green teal, but shades nicely in my Metro stub 😊 I’m also very excited to try the Hubble Zoom and Morning Star samples I have!
Keep up with the good work team. Colorverse gravity wave looks great to me.
I enjoy your videos and have learned a lot. I really like the Colorverse Dark Energy
Having studied psychology in undergrad and marriage and family therapy in grad school, I absolutely love Schrodinger and Cat! I think that’s hilarious and would love to try them out. I am fairly new to the fountain pen game but have loved watching your videos and getting a serious education in the process. So excited for more Colorverse options!
I’m a sucker for purples so naturally the Hayabusa set is my new favorite from Colorverse
Thanks for all that you guys do! You’re my favorite!
I didn't have any to review on, but then realized I had purchased 2 empty bottles of Colorverse! There was just enough to get on my dip pen. Supernova was definitely a winner in my books. Also had Quasar which is also beautiful, but Supernova was awesome color! Thanks for opportunity to enter contest!
Fave Colorverse ink is Gravity Wave. Thanks for all the great info, as always.
I like Colorverse Sea of Tranquility. Thank you for the continued videos!
I think my favorite is definitely Hubble Zoom. Such a cool and functional brown ink.
I would say the new color I would love to have. I tend to buy violet, turquoise and blue black inks. I just purchased some shimmer inks and I am super excited to try them out!!
Get well Brian! I liked the Nathan interview. It's nice to really see the person behind a brand. Favorite Colorverse ink? I think the "Arabella &Anita" combo looks fine as I mostly use green and purple colors for my writing.
I love Colorverse Photon and Gluon!!! Great video
My favorite is Sea of Tranquility. i love art and this will make my day ! Art rocks
I really like Pale Blue dot. I recently got the Voyager box set for my birthday.
Definitely my favorite from the Voyager set as well. Interstellar Space a close 2nd! - Colin
Brian, thanks for the Q&A. My favorite Coloverse ink is Einstein Ring - just received a bottle as a birthday gift from my sister!
I like Colorverse Cat and Gravity wave. Another great Q&A, Brian.
Colorverse Gravity Wave is without doubt my favourite. Beautiful ink.
Love the Colorverse Quasar - beautiful blue
I would love the Colorverse Hayabusa. Never had a chance to get the Lamy Dark Lilac and I love purple Inks!
Thanks for the Q&A. Now I want to experiment with ink dilutions. I've never tried Colorverse inks, but just looking at them I like Quasar and Saturn V.
The Voyager 1 set is #1 on my wishlist... I love Pale Blue Dot and Golden Record!
Once again... great job, Brian. I've had my eye on Chet Herbert's work for a while and like what he does... would love to see Goulet carry some of it especially if the two of you worked out some sort of Goulet exclusive! Interesting question about seasonal inks tho... I don't really think about them that way so no changes in my inks or pens based on the weather... altho for what it's worth the weather is pretty steady here in southern CA. :) I use my fountain pens daily for everything I write at my desk.. I work from home so they are always close at hand. I do not, however, travel with them. Just too paranoid about loss, theft or damage so they remain safely in their case. The pocket sized Clairefontaine notebook is my travel companion when it comes to vacations, though. This year is Amsterdam and Berlin and I suspect I will fill the majority of those pages.
I LOVE Gravity Wave! Teals are my jam and I love the sheen.
I love the Adobe ink! Also a big fan of the Travelers notebook, used it in Europe and it worked great
My favorite travel pen right now is my TWSBI Mini (currently inked with Apache Sunset). My favorite inks right now are Noodler's Apache Sunset, Colorverse Supernatural, and Diamine Marine. As for paper, I don't really have an extensive collection but I recently got some Field Notes notebooks and am really enjoying those.
I love that shirt! My favorite Colorvese ink is Morning Star, with Photon and Gravity Wave as close seconds.
QOTW: In the spring and summer I lean towards bright vibrant inks and pens, and in the fall and winter I lean towards pastel and neutral inks and pens.
I haven’t tried any of the Colorverse inks yet, but I suspect the Depth will be my first. Gorgeous color!
Thanks Brian. I really like Colorverse’s Gravity Wave and Extra Dimension.
My favorite color verse ink is either the new purple ink that just got released or the Schrodinger and Cat set.
Also I love the writing prompt idea.
I adore Sea of Tranquility. So tempted to buy it every time.
Oh my gosh that honeybee pen though
Hope you and Rachel get to feeling better, thanks for the videos.😀
I like the look of Morning Star.👍
Hi! My favorite Colorverse ink has to be Gluon. The color is so beautiful and unique! Love it in yellow pens :)
Thanks for another great video! I have the ColorVerse Electron/Selectron combo on my desk at work. It is a great combo. And of course, I have the Electron in a Jinhao 159 in black, while the Selectron is in the matching orange 159, because why not. Orange ink in an orange pen and black in black is just too predictable!
For me, the most appealing ink by Colorverse has to be Gluon. Great episode, as always!
Gravity Wave has been my favourite Colorverse ink that I've tried.
In summer I tend to use more blue, grey and black ink. I use the brighter colours in winter to lighten up the darker days 🙂
I haven't used any Colorverse Inks yet but I've ordered Quasar and looking forward to using it!
I really want to try the Colorverse ink you just mentioned, Hayabusa. Purple is my favorite color, especially the deeper shades.
I haven't yet tried Colorverse inks but I would want to start with Horizon or Quasar; I just can't decide which one would be the first one I'd like to try. I saw the video you did with Nathan Tardif. I love that every ink bottle passes over his family member's antique radio top. That is meaningful.
I really like the pale blue dot and the shrodinger green!
I haven't used the Colorverse inks before, but would love to try out the Girls Just wanna. It looks like a really amazing pink.
Yeah, it's a really vibrant and fun pink ink. You'd like it for sure! - Colin
Fountain pens can let you travel to another world, which makes the Colorverse inks (particularly the space-themed inks) the perfect accompaniment for that experience! I like the Supernova, but I've been looking to find a more royal blue color in the collection. Thanks for your continued videos!
CV Andromeda for sure, I love both the color and the name!
II'm pretty into blues and greens, so I'm thinking about that Colorverse Extra Dimension & Warped Passages set! Also love the more muted colors. Matter and Anti matter have been on my radar for a while too.
Colorverse Laurel looks like an awesome green and may be a green ink I'd like to try sometime!
as far as new pens, eagerly awaiting the retro 51 redesigned fountain pen you plan to carry
Colourverse Supernova looks like such a killer blue! I really want a crazy bright purple leaning blue
I love the Colorverse fountain pen ink called Dark Energy. I love the shift in colors in it.
I've only tried the voyager set from colorverse but of those pale blue dot is my favorite
It has to be Schrodinger and Cat! Great colors! TY Brian!
Just tried Colorverse Crystal Planet (in a vintage Esterbrook to tie that in) and am quite happy with it.
I only have one Bexley, a Poseidon Magnum II Green Seas and it is a pretty wonderful pen.
Oh dear! I’m going to have to get that Retro 51 Buzz!!
Colorverse Schrodiner & Cat is the one I keep thinking of buying!
Stop thinking and HURRY and buy! :-)~
Absolutely Astrophysics Gravity Wave! I love green/blue inks and my son is all into astrophysics- so no hesitation there! Oh, and I just love the bottles too ;-)!
Colorverse Supernatural and Colorverse Gravity Wave are my favorites right now but I can't wait to check out some of the new ones that were recently released.
my favorite colorverse is the Morningstar i love the color, i use it every day since 1 month ago. saludos amigo
I got the Colorverse Voyager I limited edition, and I keep the four inks in their respective color(ish) Pilot Parallels Pens, and I have considered getting another box of em so I can keep this going longer!
Aside from that, my favorite colors (for as long as I can remember) are black, orange, blue, and gray - so I really like Electron/Selectron... and I was SUPER pumped when you had Strelka/Pushinka listed on the website as “blue & gray” before release. I was going to get them and have a set of personal-favorites. So when the season arrived this week, and it turned out Pushinka is actually brown, well... it was basically like my Red Wedding D:
If I had to pick just ONE color... uh... how ‘bout Dark Energy.
big fan of Colorverse, in case you couldn’t tell haha
My favorite Colorverse ink is Gravity Wave. I have it inked in 2 TWSBI ECOs (stub nib and fine). I love the sheening when I use it (especially in the stub nib).
I love Einstein's Ring, then I put in Gravity Wave and love it too. I am very pleased with their entire line and they compliment my Stargazer perfectly.
Colorverse Schrödinger & Cat is awesome. I had to buy it after seeing a review and all the extras in the goodie bag are amazing. :-) I love GREEN inks! We need an Incredible HULK ink! (Hint Hint)
I haven’t gotten to try Colorverse yet, but I love the name of Schrödinger and Cat. Hopefully on my next order I’ll be able to add some Colorverse!
I'd say my favorite would be Colorverse Morning Star. My favorite color(s) are blue-greens, and I just enjoy the specific teal color of the ink.
Colorverse Redshift is my fav but there are several others that are awesome as well.
Colorverse's Black Hole has been lots of fun to use.
My favorite Colorverse ink is probably Cat both because I like the color of the blue, but also because I love the idea of the paired set with Schrodinger. Such a clever name for the set!
Regarding the QOTW, pens and paper stay the same for me year round. I always use either Rhodia or Clairefontaine, and I rotate through all of my pens regularly. I definitely have seasonal preferences for inks, though. Diamine Meadow is one of my favorite inks to use in the Summer along with Iroshizuku Murasaki shikibu and Diamine Asa Blue. In the winter, I'm much more likely to opt for darker colors in each color family like GvFC Moss Green, Lamy Dark Lilac, and Diamine Oxford Blue for my regular writing, but as a teacher, I'm also guaranteed to have at least one bright ink within arm's reach for grading during the school year.
I would love the Colorverse Hayabusa! I have the Lamy Dark Lilac pen but I missed the boat on the ink.
Feel better!
As far as summer pens/inks, I have so few that I don’t really change, but my Papier Plume Sazerac ink is a gorgeous orange/gold that is light and fun. It matches my Pilot Metro Retro Pop orange.
On the topic of 3D pens, there is Additive Pens! Some really cool designs, but yeah - it would be cool to see some new ways to actually fill or use a fountain pen.
AidanDVG I came here to say Additive Pens! Their 3d printed pens are amazing. I want them to get big enough as a company to do some large scale selling
My favorite is Space Laika! I love the shading (:
Really like Girls Just Wanna. Gorgeous pink color.
I really love the vibrant schroedinger and cat. I also love girls just wanna. I haven't used them yet, but they're on my wishlist.
My favorite Colorverse is Photon, I love that shade of green
My current favorite Colorverse ink is Dark Energy! Just love the way it shades.
Congrats! You're one of the lucky winners for the Colorverse giveaway! Just email us at social@gouletpens.com and we'll work to get that shipped out early this week. Enjoy Hayabusa! :) - Colin
Well, funny you guys should ask, but I recently received samples of Colorverse ink in Horizon and Supernatural, and I chose them because I wanted inks which were reminiscent of the blue summer sky with the brilliant green of trees set against it. I love the way those two inks coat the inside of my penbbs eye dropper and twsbi mini. I think my favorite Colorverse ink (right now) is Horizon.
Color verse....I have a sample of Girls Just Wanna, it will be going in my pink Lamy after its next cleaning. Thanks for the various giveaways you do! QOTW: In the summer I tend to use more corals and pinks and the winter more purple and teals. I'm also really liking Noodler's Georgia Peach 🍑 Thanks again for the writing prompts. Sending prayers that the Goulet family will be feeling better soon. 🤓🌻🖋
I really like matter and anti-matter. They are great.
I love the Colorverse Supernova!!
Great videos, love them. Colorverse q: 2 bottles instead of one.
Just got a sample of Colorverse Laurel and love it
Thanks for the video! In re: 3D printed pens, an artist/fabricator named Pjotr is doing some jaw-dropping work with 3D printed nibs (some printers using metal filaments) as well as barrels, sections, feeds, etc. The FP network has some threads on it too with a prototype design they open-sourced. I want to check that latter one out and will let you know!
Have Andromeda and loved it. But have Tango and Redshift on my wishlist too.
Colorverse crystal planet is my jam! I also want to check out Saturn V!
Never tried Colorverse ink before but very interested in it....I like the bottle and Hayabusa is a very nice purple that's fits my taste.
I don't change pens or paper during different seasons but I definitely use more vibrant colors in summer, one of my favorites is J. Herbin Violette Pensee, I like how it changes color as it dries.
I haven't used any Colorverse ink but my favorite i think it would be Golden Record.
Thanks Brian.
