  • This Video Espen Mathiesen shows one of the most effective diving back takes I have ever seen in jiu jitsu. Not only is this an effective way to pass the guard of an extremely flexible opponent, but it is extremely easy to use, very flashy to watch. I hope you like the video and be sure to comment and let us know what you would like to see next.

      I have been having so much fun with it since this video, it’s definitely a really effective technique, pretty much anytime they go inverted you can jump for it.

    interesting subtle difference between Espen and Jon's versions: Espen places his far hand on the mat, Jon uses it to reach for the horse collar grip/upper back gi grip instead

    • @JonThomasBJJ
      @JonThomasBJJ  Před 3 lety +1

      I think it’s just because espen is trying to be nice and controlled when showing the technique, if you watch the clips when he actually does it in the tournament he goes straight for the collar grip.

    I think rolling backtake must be one of the firsts options to look for together with other classic backtakes. Could you make an overall picture of backtake as a premium strategy of offense ?

    • @JonThomasBJJ
      @JonThomasBJJ  Před 2 lety +1

      I would say I wouldn’t be thinking about it before hand I would just take the back if they happen to expose a situation where I know it’s available. I’m just as happy win by submission or passing and finishing from top.

    is there a no-gi equivalent?

    • @JonThomasBJJ
      @JonThomasBJJ  Před 3 lety +2

      It’s gonna be a bit harder no gi but I think if you tried for it I would focus on your arm that normally grab their hip to crab around their hip thigh area then the grip that was going up high on their collar behind their neck, instead goes to their shoulder

  • @justinp9934
    @justinp9934 Před 3 lety

    Is it viable to do the first one when you have a double unders pressure pass? I’m trying to play it in my head but it seems super challenging

    • @JonThomasBJJ
      @JonThomasBJJ  Před 3 lety

      You could do it from there but only after you have fully stacked them up on their neck. There are a few other diving back take sequences that would work for that as well. Check out my videos with Andris Brunovskis for how to fully stack the person up on their neck
