that's the part I don't get. Now YES Khan could put a billion into it from his own money but they did end 2023 on a huge loss and, based on their ticket sales for 2024 show, I don't see how they're going to make up those loses any time soon.

People can say "40 year head start" all they want, but there is no excuse for that level of disparity, especially with all the sht talking Tony, the locker room, and the fans have done since day one.
Anybody who actually understands pro-wrestling and had that much money to put into a company, the social media numbers would be 10x what it they are right now, and they wouldn't be struggling to sell tickets for 80% of their shows.
And that 40 year old company was built from scratch. Tony had a lot of resources and his daddy's money to work with. Vince McMahon sr was not that rich.

When profitability for a company depends on a third party doubling their investment in them I can’t understand why that would be worth a billion.
I know this sounds crazy but I feel like throwing down the word billion minimizes how big of a number that is. When you start talking about 500 or 900 million even though its smaller people kind of take a step back and go huh. AEW is not a billion dollar company. I could buy maybe...30 million? but there's no way their entire brand is even worth more than ONE of WWE's entities (RAW which is getting 500 million a year to be streamed).
What part do you not understand? UFC and WWE both operate this way.

As a person who buys wrestling merch, none of the AEW shirts have looked good to me since inception. I do have a couple Orange Cassidy shirts but most of the other stuff doesn't look good as a shirt to show off to people that don't watch AEW.

Your worth is simply what someone would purchase you for. it is a projection of what you could sell all your assets and brand for. it's not necessarily a reflection of income, popularity, revenue, profit/loss, etc. It can involve all those things, some of those things or none of those things. remember the LA dodgers were sold 12 years ago for $2billion when the team wasn't good, the owners were bleeding money, and the future was bleak...

WWE’s lower profit in 2022 could be the result of high inflation. It was at record highs in that year.

P2+ is people over the age of 2 that tuned in. There isnt a range on P2+ like for instance P25-54 which is self explanatory. P2+ pretty much reflects the total audience.

Nobody would buy AEW today for even one tenth of that.
Yeah, that is not how valuation works at all. An easy example is the NBA. The Hornets only make around 100 million less than the Suns in revenue, but the Suns sold for a billion dollars more. AEW is not a leader in their field and has yet to show any sign of potential growth. Numbers are not going up, but it seems like TV is happy with them, and since they don't make money off anything else, their evaluation is mainly controlled by what TV is willing to give them. They are worth 300-400M at most.
