I love the undone, been in my closet for years, did she brush her hair ? vibe...thrift stores in my area do not resell items that show age. Anything that looks worn in or has ONE hole ect doesn't make the cut and I don't know what they do with it. Its so sad for all of those really well crafted, worn in, aged pieces that "donate-ers" pass on thinking someone will give it a second chance. The garment is still lovable and maybe it doesn't fit them anymore or there is no room for it on the moving truck, or it belonged to a loved one and holds sadness for them. I think there should be a section in the store for these gems clearly marked, "I might need mending" and then offer a slight discount or BOGO. Of course there is a fine line, a genuine cotton Harley Davidson tshirt with a hole in the sleeve or a bleach stain should not be tossed (right???), but a pair of kids PJS with blueberry stains...more likely yes.

Many thrift stores sell damaged clothing as a commodity. They are pressed into giant bales then resold. Some is shipped to developing countries and sold there. Some is recycled into rags or shredded and used in other products (insulation, carpet padding, etc).
Inspired by you, I found a weird shapeless dress whose print I loved-- I chopped it! It's now one of my favorite blouses. I also love huge mens tees to cut into flowy boxy shapes.

Fav chop story...I wanted to chop the top I was wearing before I went out. The shirt had big billowing sleeves and well lets just say the wine I was drinking did not mix well with chopping. I did chop the bottom but accidentally chopped one sleeve and didn't realize until I was already out! Loved this video Beth and Molly is hilarious!

When I heard you speak of CHOPPING I cringed, not into cropped... ha ha although the reason I want to become good at sewing is to alter my stuff one day maybe....TOTALLY THE SAME with not having the "perfect" "too done" outfit and doing something to make it...unpredictable...I used to love to dress up in a glam retro ladylike way and pop in something edgy/quirky/clashing...when we were hanging out all night long in my 20s and I would dress up in vintage clothes my best friend would always tell me that you "need" a stain, or a wrinkle or something to mess up your polished look and make it look effortless... it was something his grandmother had taught him!! love you gals! and adorable mellow island-stranded-in-love-Lola💜 my doggy was the same, he was used to coming with me to bookstores, wine tastings and movies and be invisible just so he could always hang out with me!! ...last but not least the little adorable cute video bomber ha ha ha 💙 thanks Beth!

I hate the thought of putting scissors to any of my thrifted finds and that a problem for me. I just want to get over the fear so that I can start to do DIYs projects on some of the items following @blueprintdiy, she does a good job on remaking of her thrifted items. What do you do with the excess fabric? Chop Chop session were interesting and you guys came out with some good results. But for those that may not want to expose their midsection should do some measuring before making that cut. Thanks for sharing and blessing to you and Molly in 2019.
