There is more to the Cannon story. The President of Princeton who buried the cannon was Woodrow Wilson, who was making other sweeping changes to the University at the time. It was buried in a thick hunk of concrete directly in the middle of the quad on campus where it usually resided. Rutgers would not be so easily deterred, however. The day before the next game between the two schools, Princeton students woke up to a massive hole in the square, along with a pile of dirt. Furious, Wilson called Rutgers officials and demanded the cannon returned. The head coach politely asked his team to give back the cannon, to which returned a roar of laughter. "If those guys over at Princeton are so smart," one if the players said, "then surely they would have noticed that the hole is not in the middle of the quad." Sure enough, when the massive pile of dirt was dug through, there sat the cannon, still buried in concrete.

    Great job!
It would be great to hear a more detailed story on the history of the cannon, the bell in Old Queens and how Queens College became Rutgers. It's time the B1G learns what a historical place Rutgers' is, with such a rich and interesting history, that shall always stand On the Banks of the Old Raritan!
