  • Two ways to fold a Thirteen Tiles variation of the Clover Tessellation.
    Grids used: 16*16 and 16*32
    •-•-•
This really is more of a walkthrough of this variation for those who are already familiar with Shuzo Fujimoto’s hydrangea and clover designs.... If you’re not, then this will certainly be more difficult to follow.
There are a number of tutorials on both base designs here on CZcams (HappyFolding is a good place).
I’d probably recommend also watching my first tutorial series because there are a number of techniques involved.

Thanks for the great video. I folded both methods and definitely the second is an smoother way to do it.

The second way for sure! Again another brilliant (and quite relaxing) tutorial

I also folded the second version! Now to paint some paper for the next one!!

Many thanks - that was, indeed, helpful! Version one I found an absolute pig - really struggled to get the flaps through without mashing everything. Version two was lovely - much less trouble than I expected. I think I may be beginning to get the hang of it! I think I'm also realising just how important accuracy is in folding the grid. Makes the difference between things falling together nicely and fighting (and usually losing) for much of the time. Time to do another one I think :-)

Congratulations on an amazing channel. Your style of origami is right up my alley! I would love to request some videos on folding some of these tessellations in to boxes ( ie the hydrangea ribbon box) I really love making something useful out of some of these amazing patterns

I have not made many tessellations into boxes but they certainly would look great!
The process used on the hydrangea box would probably work well on other tessellation types, would be worth a bit of experimenting.

That snappy paper behaves like a zipper!
....aaand THAT is what precise folding can do for you.

Where do you get your paper?

I just got a Cricut Explore 2, and apparently it can be programmed to score paper. My intention is to have it do the pre folds. What do you think?

This actually came up in conversation with friends today!
I have seen it work well with some designs, but I am told the paper will split if you reverse the creases a few times, unfortunately. So would not really work for tessellation grids.
Worth a try though! I’d love hear how it goes.
