This is deep for two reasons, she's writing a song about being in the backseat in her life and yet realizes this is what she signed up for. So she's getting at how women in the rap game are always in the backseat to men, and also how women in society or subjected to patriarchy. She standing in a contradictory and difficult place where she feels subjugated everywhere she goes yet knows that she signed up for it and makes an amazing song as a testament to her life of freedom yet struggle. At least that's what I got from it.
She didn't ask to be born female, though.

The song is not called colors tho, if you listen to what she saying, you might have a different interpertion of it. She literally says this is what I sign up for, meaning possible being a rapper, and she happens to be female, trying to participate in a dominated male genre. Yeah most of our ancestors came from Africa the motherland, but that was decades ago, and black women didn’t birth all colours cuz that would be weird af, mutation happened, and if mutations happened then that could mean not everyone came from Africa.

Emily Marte honestly, a big part of the reason is that 99% of Hip-Hop that most of us grew up listening to was American rap. So it was only natural for us to imitate rap in a US accent in our younger days. It’s only the past 10 years or so us Brit’s have properly had our own people to support and listen as the talent is just so much stronger in rap, grime, Hip-hop over here than it was years ago.
