    This looks good for birding by bike as they also have a binocular specific mount.

    Thanks for the video. Great review. I have the Cotton Carrier that’s straps to the back pack. I love it. The only thing I don’t like is I always have to have the back pack. Sometimes I just want a camera and lens set up.

      Hey thanks Darren! Yeah, I definitely want to pick that strap or up for sure at some point, especially since I have this one, lol.

    Great equipment video Brent, its good to hear the good/bad sides of accessories. I always hate buying something that looks good in pics, but is not very practical or uncomfortable to use. Also, did you get any of those lightning pics?..I love taking lightning photos, unfortunately we dont get a lot of them here in my area of South Texas. But I know where i would have headed after doing a video like that....

      Thanks Tye! I didn't end up getting any that day, the storm shifted course before I could find a decent spot, and then I had to get home for dinner. I've posted a few lightning shots on my IG lately though, and have a few more to post too.

      Agreed. I have tried something like this hitch. It was an epic fail for bicycling. Nowadays, I let the bike carry my gear.

    thought about getting something like this to wear on motorcycle rides so i dont have to stop and unpack a camera then pack it back up and get back on the bike. Not for highway riding but just on backroads when i want to stop real quick.

    No one uses extended battery packs on their cameras Brent? I cant use my extended battery pack with the carrier. Cotton Carrier G3 Harness: 70-200 f2.8 lens.

    Maybe i missed it but i don’t see how the camera attaches. Is there a button? does it clip in?

    For anyone interested in biking or hiking with a larger lens, or worried about movement, it bobbing around, etc they make a model with a strap that tightens across the bottom of the lens to prevent all of that. This Scout model doesn't have that.

      Out the camera in a back pack make sur eit protected so use some sort of padding, I used elbow pads, back protector, and a si have a tripod too, it does not move. And I also use straps on the back pack to keep it more snug.

    Can you update this with the R5 and 800? These are lighter and I am curious if it makes a difference to you.

    • @BrentHall
      @BrentHall  Před 3 lety

      Oh, I hadn't thought about that...yeah I can give it a try and see how performs.

    For mountainbiking just out the camera in a 30L backpack, I out my A7IV with 24-70 GM II in an Evoc Explorer Pro 30L camera, to protect it the camera between two heavy duty elbow pads rated to moto standard, they ar epoc Evoc vpd2.0 DH, inserted into a bag that came with a bed sheet. I put a back protector on top, so I think my camera is quite safe.
    Also room for a tripod I have. Apeak design travel tripod, the next ti's getting a ball head, not decided yet, but hab room for it.
    I would never go mountain biking with camera dangling like that. Ther eis a risk of smashing the lens Ina crash. I know metal lens covers exist. But still don't like it dangling there also knocking the camera off the chest mount thing, probably more suitable for hiking in safe environment or if riding not with a pricy camera and defenitly not gnarly terrain. For that having camera in a back pack is a must.
    Also a hand strap is a must. I have Peak Design Microclutch L bracket magnetic tool is nice as it sticks to the bracket to harder to lose it.

    heh i have a tiny Canon M100, you would barely notice it hanging off your chest.. i do a lot of biking as well and would love one of those carriers... mostly because you don't want to fumble around to find your camera in a sling bag or what have you if you come across something worth photographing on a bike.. walking sucks.

    • @BrentHall
      @BrentHall  Před 3 lety

    I am a cyclist, would you recommend this strap for the Panasonic LX100 II camera that I used. Thanks.

    • @BrentHall
      @BrentHall  Před 2 lety

      I don't know anything about that camera, but I'm pretty sure it's a lot smaller than my Canon stuff, so I'd assume it would do well.

    The way you handling this setup by the camera and not the lens, it cannot be that heavy. I wouldnt have any strap for that (Like a 300mm f4D on Nikon weighs the same). Ever since I got my 600 f4, which weighs almost 6 kilos, I do not respect people holding their setup by the camera anymore ;)

    • @jillbrievids
      @jillbrievids Před 3 lety

      I agree. I cant take any photographer seriously if they support the weight of their rig with the camera instead of the lens. amateur hour

  • @jillbrievids
    @jillbrievids Před 3 lety

    uhh, why are you attaching to the cotton carrier via the camera body instead of via the lens foot? you never want to have the weight of a heavy lens pulling down on your camera body.

    • @BrentHall
      @BrentHall  Před 3 lety +1

      I guess I'm just careless like that. I figured that in terms of weight distribution, it's the exact same as carrying it on a neck strap or holding it by the grip with the lens pointed down while I walk, which I do all the time as well. Never had any issues so far.
