It dosent matter if your a ford or Holden guy, you've gotta appreciate these old rigs.
Men don't cry. Well real men do cry. Goodbye to a respected loved family member HOLDEN. From a Kiwi over the ditch. All Regards
So many memories in this video, what I would give to go back and sit on the center console in Dad's WB and HJ utes he had when I was 6 or 7, or my uncle's loud HQ 1 tonner with the golf ball gear stick, or Dad's VT he got brand new for work, (I had never been in anything with such a quiet engine), or my VZ Ute I sold 3 years ago because I needed a 4x4. My HG I bought as a project then sold because the rust was too extensive and expensive to fix, my HZ which is sitting in the shed while I spend about 3 hours a month stripping the body, mum's VE which we bought almost brand new and hasn't missed a beat in 315,000km and counting, Dad's VE SSV which spends most of its time in the shed immaculately still on 30,000km, even the HJ Station Wagon mum owned long before I was born and the 2 Rodeo's and Colorado dad had before his current Colorado. Every one of these Holdens hold a special place in my heart and even though they are not built anymore I hope I haven't owned my last Australian built Holden.
Good on ya all...I'm a Ford nutcase fan since a kid but hugely respect the mighty Holden brand . There are plenty of Holdens that you wouldn't need to hold a gun to my head to enjoy lets just say . My favourites are the EH , HR and VF . My uncle had an HR Premier with red upholstery I remember very well . Even had the wheel spats and venetian shade too ...
I’m 19 I just bought my first commodore the mighty VE Commodore, this is the greatest car Australia ever produced and my love for it is greater than anything I’ve ever felt. Now I have to grow up without beautiful big Holden cars and settle for some overseas garbage that has been made by a person who is probably on less than 10 dollars an hour.... oh so much pride people get out of that. 😡😡😡😡😡
Nice mate, I own a 09 ve commie myself, I’m from California.
Thank you for Importing the Holden GTO, Better known as the Pontiac GTO, another Pontiac G-8 & the Bloody Chevrolet S.S. in Aussie Branded as the Holden Commodore S.S. with its Bad Ass Horsepower Engines to the U.S.A.
The Holden Monaro was rebadged as the Pontiac GTO.
My Dad had an old FJ ute he used it in the bush around Manjimup. You could by them for $20 . He then used an EH ute for work. Collected rain water on the vinyl canopy. Lift the Dot. My first Holden was an EJ Station Wagon wirh a silent running 129 Grey motor. It had a Diamond Dot radio but no heater demister. I drove around Albanys cold wet winters in a jacket and ugg boots. Wow....then came a HK Kingswood....HGs...HQs....panel vans and cars. Even a 1 tonne ute with no side panels that my dog fell off a number of times at low speed when he saw roos. Now I have a 2006 Adventra lx for 13 years hoping it goes up in value....use it for long trips and firewood cutting. Thats 55 years of Holdens there people! And I was born in Wales!
really enjoyable show..end of a great era..
Here in Brazil, the Holden Commodore was sold as Chevrolet Omega from 1998 to 2011. Such a great car! Big, comfortable, powerful and reliable.
Maybe I don't live in Australia but I love this car
Enjoy your holden, it was the heartbeat of Elizabeth and Sailsbury
If I was to come in to some money I would definitely buy at least one Aussie car, would love to drive one here in the UK 👍
R.I.P Holdens. im a Holden driver for 40 years

Old ever owned commodores myself. Current car is VF GTS
A great Australian car that will be very well missed
Channel 53 Your Herbie Channel HQ is the best
Very Well Said Mate!

Mhm
I keep forgetting how beautiful the HQ GTS is :D
That dashboard at 6:24 really brings back memories.
Fantastic video on a sad day. Thanks for creating this content. I loved it.
Thanks Chris happy you liked it!

All Holden vehicles ended with an announcement to the press today, 17th February 2020. Holden is now history.
Not yet, but soon will be...end of the year
Mate Holden ended on 20 October 2017 when the last car rolled off the factory lines.
@@GoshuaJane No champ, it ended when Holden ended, not the local vehicle assembly.
@@martintaper7997 Holden died 20th October 2017. After that it was just shitty imports with the Holden badging slapped on.
@@GoshuaJane I'm aware of this, but Holden didn't die at that point. The final Commodore, made in Germany, as were the cars the original Commodore was based on and named from, was not shitty.
Goodbye Mr. Commodore. We will miss you. A lot.
What Chrysler was just sitting at the beach , RT valiant charger was a big competitor to the ford an Holden
I really wish holdens, HSVs, and HDTs were available in USA. I feel like the only American that likes Australian cars, if any other Americans know Australia even makes cars
Get the Chevrolet SS sedan, it's a rebadged Holden Commodore VF. It is unfortunate that GM killed Pontiac though because they were planning to release the Holden Ute as a Pontiac G8 ST and many Americans seem to like the idea of a V8 powered RWD car with a tub/tray/bed on the rear
Sadly towards the end it was not large cars that were the issue. But sedans .
That was great. Loved everything up to 5:29.
The first Holden had an engine that looked very much like the 2.5 litre engine of the Opel Kapitän (Captain) of 1939.
Later Holdens looked like contemporary Opels in Europe, but with larger and more powerful engines...
I love the Holden's 😊
Lets be honest here. The only 60's Holden that did not vanish in a cloud of rust was the EH.
Even the 70's HQ was a rust bucket. Holden continued to produce cars with built in water traps for many years. When I bought my 74 HQ I had the whole car rust proofed, Still did not stop rust getting to it, as the roof went rotten, sweating under the vinyl top.
If I could turn back time I'd go buy a new 64 EH 179. My personal choice as the pick of the bunch. Worst rust bucket award has to go to the 65 HD.
I don't think Australians are unpatriotic, I think they just want better cars.
Holden's,Falcon's and Valiants these 3 Auzzie beauties ('60's-'80's)were in my personal, unbiased, humble opinion the best ever to prowl the NZ roads.… but fair sukothesav cobbers were's the HR's n HD's in all this???
They should’ve kept the Holden cars alive... i love even more now my VY
I live in the USA and i own a 2009 holden VE Commodore, wish we had gotten more Australian models.
My Wb one tonner is still going strong in 2020. 👍
Holdens, lots of graced our drive way, some good cars. Such a shame GM robbed the Australian people then left the country.
That Monaro...
The Holden VF Commodore is known as the Chevrolet SS in the United States
I have owned the FB special Sedan for 6 month's, the EH Special Sedan 4 1/2 year's the HK panel Van 1 year, A Lc Torana 1 year, HQ Premier Sedan nearly 25 year's..... And Now Currently the VX Calais Series 1 Sedan, 2 year's so far....l have alway's been a Holden Lover
What about the Holden Torana? Best Holden ever made and no mention of it... Piss poor.
Will the Australian motor industry ever make a comeback? Australia is capable of doing a lot of things. I would hope they can start manufacturing cars again.
one of my dreams is to make a truly austtralan car company
@@whoschinaman2200 That'd be awesome!
The reality of why our icon cars diminished isn’t spoken about here. A great presentation tho.
At least Holden parts are cheaper than the crazy prices Mazda and Kia cost not mention the German stuff.
There's no art to the cars anymore
Well the reality is the FX was based on a General Motors Chevie that was slightly modified
the one off design they wanted for the first car in 1948 was in fact rejected by General Motors because they already had a design that ticked all the boxes and they were not going to go through the hassle of proving a new design....!!! So they tweaked an existing American design
The best looking one for me everybody is different
I really liked the EK
They had it so easy just building the same car then with a change of a grill or tail light or mayby both and call it a new model. Than once the tariffs started heading south by our governments the writing was on the walls
Did he say that the EH was the first Australian car to have Power steering as an option? I don't think so!!!
first holden i think
Dan Tun I don’t think EH had power steering .
Yes it was an option, but very few cars were ordered with it.The EH being fairly light to steer with the 6.40x13 crossplies it wasnt thought nessasary in 63/64.The shop manual makes mention of this option.
My dad and cousin had second hand FXs, correctly 48-215s, in 1960s. These cars would have been pushed to achieve 80 mph. For other cars cable of 100 mph, recall the term doing “the ton”?
At 100mph you were supposedly pulling 1 tonne of Drag.....hence...the Tonne
insane love this please share
Great vid'... so glad I have an FJ parked in my garage..
so sad - had to send my FJ off to Shannons this week. Will be greatly missed but I can no longer drive her or maintain her so I'm hoping she goes to a new owner who will appreciate her as I did.
I love my holdens , absolutely tragic that it is no more , thanks gm america , asreholes
Dam I have a Holden Eh and it’s my first car
The 'Monaro'. WOW! (By the way, it's aitch, not haitch.)
Two door Kingswood... WOW.
Holden did not stretch the VB-VL into VN. That was done by Opel
Cars Holden ITS game over
Holden GMH was about as Australian as McDonald’s.
Even the old Holden theme song was just a rehash of the Chevrolet theme song.
About as Australian as my hairy white butt which was not born in Australia.
youve never seen a hk monaro in the states.
Anything before the VE handles like a wheelbarrow with a missing front wheel.
I took the Accelerator spring off the carby and started it after 5 minutes running and valve bouncing it refused to die so I then filled the rocker cover up with gravel and small rocks and it still did not blow up. In the end I felt sorry for it and turned it off. I sent 5 Fbs and Eks to the crusher at Simsmetals and two of them were still running. Old greys were one tough son of a bitch motor and would rather do a valve than shit the motor.
And holden is away the bests cars in history
Give the VT &VX SS in few years time they will sky rock in prices
You talk about VT Commodore but show VX
street guru that’s what I said too! Haha
What a laugh. All the Hundreds of Bogan Front Lawn Ornaments at Elizabeth are now a National Treasure and worth a quid.
Why wasn't this done for the falcon?
I suppose because it was under Ford, and Ford is American. Whereas with Holden, it is Australian, so there is more of a connection to the brand too than just the single model.
Ford Australia and by extension the Falcon has been independent from Ford America since the USDM Falcons ceased production.
Keep searching CZcams, plenty of similar videos for Falcon by Aussie motor noters..
The U.S. Built Falcon had its Run in the Full 1960's, & Killed Off New Years Day in 1970 here in the States, but was Replaced by the Maverick in 69, but Maverick Didn't Get a 4 Door till the 71 Model, No Station Wagon for it Either!
The Falcon Lost it's Steam here in the U.S. by the Late 60's, had its Generations...60-62, 62-63, 64-65, & 66-69, the Falcon Convertable Was Put Out by Ford in 63, & was Killed Off After the 65 Model Year, Ranchero, Similar to Your Aussie UTE, was with the Falcon Family from 60 to 66, & Transferred to the Fairlane (67-69), Torino (70-71), Gran Torino (72-76), & LTD 2 (77-79).
Falcon was Fords Answer to Compact Cars Beginning in 1960, Along with The Chevy Corvair (1960-1969), but you Bloody Aussies Loved your Bloody Falcons, & Bloody Holden's, & that's why Falcons Stayed in Production Until What 2016? Until Ford Shut Down the Bloody Plant in Australia in 2016, & Holden Right After that, Along with Chevrolet of Australia Also!
Ford Replaced the Maverick in 77 for the Fairmont, which Lasted Through the 82 Model Year, & it was Replaced by the LTD 2, which was in Production from 83 to 86, & then the Long Running Taurus, from 86 to Last Month (March) in 2019.
& You Aussies got a Taste of the American Taurus Coming your Way Around 1996.
The Taurus is Still being Built & Sold Only in China Only, Because Ford Decide to Focus on S.U.V.'s Like the Best Selling Explorer, & it's New Redesigned Full Size Expedition & Crossovers & The Trucks Like F-150 & 250, & the Rebirth of the Compact Ranger Pickup which Ford Killed Off in 2011, Cause of Chevy's Best Selling Small Pickup, the Colorado & it's Cousin, the GMC Canyon!
love this vid... gonna go cry about holdens death again now
Although sad local production has ended, with a local product, Holden is not closing, neither is Toyota, Ford, Mitsubishi, Nissan.
Nah, Holden is D.E.A.D.
Agreed holden is dead front wheel drive hatchback wtf. Vf was a good place to end an absolute awesome legacy
I wished the Torana had hung around, imagine a modern one of those versus the likes of the BMW M2 and Audi RS3... Hang on you guys didn't even mention that? EDIT: ok well you did mention right at the end that you skipped a few, but that one, I think it was still worth mentioning.
They did build a modern Torana then a few years down the track changed a few things and sold it as a VE Commodore

Well said
Did Holden ever built own cars or did they just modify existing cars from his parent company (General Motors)?
There's no such model as "FX" The first Holden was given an ALL-NUMERIC designation; 48-215! 48 for year of build, 215 for engine size in cubic inches. The first model with the two-letter designation was the successor to the 48-215, the "FJ".
Neil Forbes I don’t think it had 215 cubic inches it smaller ,in 63and 64 come bigger 149 and 179 .
2.15 litre
Harvester Of Tone Yes you are right now.
@@harvesteroftone5473 No, that's a bottle of milk!
some rich Aussie should buy the naming rights and start re producing the brand, how can you drop a popular brand just like that its crazy!!
Does anyone in the southern hemisphere know what a genuine Muscle-car is?
⭐ The first global Muscle-car was a
'1964 PONTIAC GTO'
Two Door, +(a Back Seat)
& High Performance Package.
(Never a four door sedan)
4:08 don’t forget the brougham
Got the thumbnail a bit wrong guys
U 4got 2 show the great white of Commodores..The "VL"🏆
When you mentioned the vt they were all vx that you showed
They showed 1 VT, in the shot with the camels, all the rest are VX’s though.
Simply...Holden made "1 CAR" in ALL that time...a RWD family sedan and didn't move with tech and the times and were left behind. You just CAN'T run a company like that and expect to survive...and they didnt
Holden didn't have "1 car", they had many cars that were mostly just built in other countries.
Where is the Walkingshaw? VN SS? Even the mighty TD Gemini SL/E?? Classics
No other history of this country - no other pride
There's no such thing as an FX.
It's called a 48/215
As if they couldn't think of a name for it. How many people would say, "There goes a Holden 48/215"?
@@knowbodiesfull5768 ..
All the people who know what that car is called.
3:20 : 179 come out in vc/vh commodores I thought, sure you didn’t mean 173?
149 or 179 were the EH/HD motor options. 161 or 186 were the HR thru to HG 6 cyl motor options. Then from the HK on for some variants also the V8s. From the HQ on, the 173 or 202 were the 6cyl motor options. Then the V8s.
David Taylor is right and from me, Holden was around before the Commodore.
The EH had a 179. Kids used steal the 179 badges for belt buckles.
Peter brock was a kiwi
Who told you that?
He was born in Richmond Victoria.
Anyone notice the bald tyre on the VE?
Why do you keep call it the end of the Holden error.
The Great, Peter Brock just turned in his grave!
What? They didn't mention the VS GTS-R!

Im Brazil the name is Chevrolet Ômega
Andrew MacLean, take note of my other comment!
I'd love me an Aussie blonde with a V8 Holden by the beach
I have a V8 holden , but not the blonde lol
to bad Holden was not sold in Canada i would have owned one
Wats happening ? Is holden winding up
Mark gonzalvez Holden’s been gone for a while now mate 😭
Nice and patriotic but the fact is Holden has been owned by GM since 1931, long before the FX saw light of day. OK, they were built in Australia (or at least many of them were) by Australians and much of the design work was done in Australia but the bottom line is the US called the shots. Holdens were no more (or less) Australian than Ford, both US companies supported by Australian tax payers. This video supports the Holden myth that they were Australian, they were owned and controlled by the USA, it's a fact we all know, don't pretend otherwise. A very relevant fact not even mentioned in this video.
Finally someone that doesn’t have their head in clouds. Excellent comment!
RIP
Sooooooo sad.
and now the brand is gone .. finished ..ended ... a classic case of govt and corporate idiocy...
VE,the billion dollar mistake
You nailed it
Hilarious, the 48-215 was not designed in Australia it was designed by the GM America after they laughed at the Aussie design. Get ya facts straight guys.
These motoring Journos talk rubbish…They don’t fact check anything .
The first prototype was designed and built in Detroit before being shipped to Australia for evaluation and testing.
The original design sucked.
The best Holdens were based on Chev origins the 215 being the first, the EH was the start of the local designs, then the HQ to HZ, VBs to VK were shit, VLs were Nissan powered, because unlike Ford Falcon, Holden wasn't set to change to unleaded petrol mid 80s. They have always been at the mercy of GM, just like Ford Australia was, and now their numbers up.
I'm a GM GUY IK AMERICA AND I AM PIST THAT THE CEO OF GM SHUT YOU GUYS DOWN ME AS A GM I ALSO DO NOT LIKE THE MODERN MANAGEMENT AT GM. You guys have nice cars.
Mary Barra, Mark Reuss, Douglas L. Are the ones responsible for shutting you guys down them people at GM have no brain even the mechanics in America do not like the modern owners at GM freaking Mary Barra, Mark Reuss, Douglas L. THEY HAVE NO RIGHT FOR SHUTTING DOWN HOLDEN, I FEEL REALLY SORRY THAT JOBS ARE LOST ALL BECAUSE OF
Mary Barra, Mark Reuss, Douglas L.
Stop the blame game, Australians killed off Holden. How do I know ? An example. Gridlocked traffic, going nowhere. Reason, too many cars . Let's eliminate all Holdens and Fords and any other Australian made cars, not Australian assembled , Australian made. The result. It made no difference to the traffic jam. We blame everybody else while we sit in traffic jams in our air conned, fully tricked out IMPORTS. We'll justify it by saying "local cars don't have all the sparkly bits, all the bling" and now we've killed off Holden, but that's not the end of it. We still have industries left we can kill off and then start the finger pointing again. We killed Holden, we did it.
