Folks you can do this a lot more easier. Just buy the light, and a basic extension cord. Cut the extension cord female end off, and wire the negative and positive to the light, and then plug the male end into a regular power chord and simply hang the light up. No need to cut holes into the wall or run wires through the wall.

That's a good tip for anyone looking to add a backup light for themselves for their own use. This particular scenario had to be hardwired in to pass a fire inspection that was for a vacation rental home.

@@nakaiswilling0369 you have the white wire that goes with the white, black wire that goes with black wire if your connection is 120v, green is always ground wire and red is a hot 277v wire that you only use if your connection is 240v or higher. In the US we normally use white and black and then cap off the red wire and use electrical tape on it for safety.

If you score the lines you are cutting, using a sharp (new blade) blade razor, BEFORE CUTTING with any tool, you wont have those pieces of wood finish making a mess.

I put mine up exactly that way and it works like the video except I get a green light on instead of red ? Is this correctly wired ?

You likely have a different light than what is in the video. I've seen others with a green light. The important thing is as you mentioned it works like the video, assuming when you press the test button it cuts the power to the light then the light turns on. Then that would be installed correctly.

This video could be USEFUL to the AVERAGE person IF You bothered to SHOW EXACTLY where the RED, BLACK, AND WHITE WIRE GO! If You cant say SPECIFICALLY for example “the RED GOES ON THE LEFT, the WHITE GOES…..

Thanks for your comment and sorry for any confusion, I should have been more thorough and will be in the future. For this particular scenario, the red wire wasn't wired to anything, only the black and white wires were.
