I am ashamed of ever thinking that bass was boring as a kid. What an amazingly diverse instrument. You're the shit, Damien.
Thank you!
Very unique chord voicings. Rather spacious. I love chords that are happy and sad at the same time.
Thank you Randy.
I would call those chords as ‘melancolic'.
Nostalgic, maybe? Reminiscent.
Being able to paint your emotions with strings bearing your inner soul, being able to hear with a blind ear is being able to see with no vision
SUPER ! BASS ! 😎
Beautiful music to my ears. So soothing
Thank you, so glad you enjoyed!
Simply beautiful!
Thank you!
Greetings, fellow 6-string fretless bassist. I love your approach to the soundscapes that you "paint" with your bass and your creativity. The bass and your technique are a wonderful combination. I presume this is a Fodera, yes. The Fodera Anthony Jackson bass that I have was originally a fretless before I owned it, since I had played it years before I got it while it was still at Rudy's Music in NYC. It had already been spoken for but was returned several years later and they sent it back to Fodera to have frets put on and the preamp updated with Pope electronics before I purchased it privately from the second owner. I loved it as a fretless even though it was a 36" scale but I still love it as a fretted bass. It really sang like the one you are playing. I now use an F Bass Alain Caron 6 which I have used consistently for 10 years. It is a great fretless. Thanks for the music! Looking forward to discovering more of your work. Cheers.
David Sheaffer thanks so much for your kind words, best to you!
From your new sub ;>) David I bought 1 1996 Conklin fretless seven string two years ago.And at first the tiny F string sounded weird .
Kind of wimpy and dull.I changed strings to Tomastic Enfields using a solid string and it helped some. But I still fell in love with this
amazing instrument .Now for what ever reason I am not unhappy with its sound.Perhaps my fingers are used to playing fretless now.
Zero callus too ! Smooth as Preachers hands .A guitar now feels like a Mandolin now and I have to force myself to play one.
I love hour after hour with the Conklin. Let me know please your thoughts. The finger board is purple heart.
.
Great sounds to start the day with! Reminds me of wide open spaces with a storm approaching.
Love love love

Hello Leandro, I've never used a capo on my basses so I do not know which one would be best, sorry, I just done have any experience with it.

This bass chant is suitable for me to dedicate to the late TM. Stevens.
Hi Brian (Bass) from the band, beautiful, serene, and melodious, just love it this is the type of thing, thata makes me want a 6 string bass :-)
Thank you!
I love following your instagram, as a fellow bassist you inspire me along with other iconic bassists to find my own voice. I hope one day our paths cross and maybe I could bug you for a bass lesson! Thanks for the inspiration!!
David Dove thanks for the kindness, so glad you find the music here and and in the Instagram feed inspiring, thank you taking the time to share that here. Kind Regards, Damian
Angelic

Thanks for watching
hypnotic
This is so great and rare it somehow reminds me of the stalker bar theme
thrillaspirit thank you
at time stamp 0:44 playing on the high C string 12th fret marker I just came to understand how you got the harmonic High note by lifting your finger up a tiny bit :>)
For the longest time it puzzled me how you could decend and yet get a higher note :>) See Im learning thank you Damian :>)
Thank you :) I’m flattered. Just before 0:44 watch the switch on the ebow gets flipped to allow the other harmonic mode. I appreciate your interest in the music and the process.
I knew this had to be you !!!!!! Amazingly wonderful :>)
humblegeorge thank you
I own most of Damians work, really lovely ambient recordings.
bassatnight thank you
I think I was knee deep in baby duty when you released this. Absolutely amazing Damian. I'll be playing this one during some of Baby Thaddeus' late night feedings. :)
Thank you Eric! So glad you enjoyed it. I sure hope Thaddeus finds it comforting. This one should make the cut on the next album as well.
It worked like a charm last night! Only took two listenings before he was fast asleep. I think that is his vote to include it on the next album. :-)
Excellente, possibly track 1,2 or 3 then!
Sei bravo!
Thank you!
Awesome... Thanks, Damian...
Thank you and you are most welcome Martin.
@@DamianCoccio your music make this world more beautiful :)
Thank you for the inspiring comments!
I so want to get myself an Ebow and a Boss Loop Station, now, just to see where I can take my ideas. I don't mean to sound like some wild-eyed fan, but your imagination and creativity is inspiring, sir.
Glen Garcia thank you, I am glad you enjoy the music and find it inspiring! The Ebow is a lot of fun.
Wow, this is cool. Some day my intonation will be as good as yours. Oh, who am I kidding. :)
Wish this was on cd as 🙂
David Gibbings David Gibbings sorry no hard copies were made after year in review, but it is available to download from iTunes.
@@DamianCoccio thats a shame , im a bit old school and like cds as youve always got them to play as with downloads are just not for me but thanks for the reply , bin playing your music for a while and its great , keep up the great work 🙂
Wow man this was amazing. Players like yourself make me think it's time to give up on bass playing lol
czarpaul01 thank you much, please don’t ever give up.
Fantastic work Damian! Thanks for sharing!!
You are most welcome, Terry. Glad you enjoyed it!
wow is beautiful and lovely to see and hear this kind of music, i berly saw a video from you and wow sense then i have seen the rest of the videos, i which i could play like that or someone can show me some techniques to play with chords, what brand of bass are you using and where they sell it.
Paul Huezo thank you Paul, I am very glad you enjoyed the music, thank you for watching.
Paul Huezo I am using a custom Fodera fretless with fodera ss strings. You can see them on sweetwater and fodera.com
What an amazing work. Totally loved it! Btw what's that thing you grab at 0:12 ?
Aditya Achmal thank you, that’s an Ebow.
What a beautiful player you are and also What type of music category does this fit in
Thank you, so glad you enjoy the music. I’m not sure of the genre/category.
I would say it is ambient. Erik Satie's (many consider to be the father of Ambient) classical work Gymnopédies exemplifies this (repeated rhythm part with a dynamic melody), and is pretty much the blueprint for the genre
What an innovative sound! Your bass tone is unreal Damian. I converted my Ibanez USA Custom 5 string into a fretless 20 years ago. The EMG pickups did it for me, but after listening to this bass, you have convinced me to purchase this 6 string fretless! What is the bass model and where may I find it? Thanks in advance Mate
Ricky Moss thank you, this Tone mainly comes from the mahogany body, ebony FB with the Aguilar pickups. The bass was a custom-made Bass made by Fodera Guitars in New York City. While I do not own it any longer (I have sold it to fund other basses) it was a wonderful fretless bass and I may have a similar one built in the future.
Sweet. just subscribed and liked. Could you play Careless whisper Wham (George Michael ) I bet that song would sound great with your playing style. Thanks Piason.
Just love your music Damian. What bass are you using here. ?
dmccombe7 thank you. This is a custom Fodera emperor which I have sold to fund the build of an improved 6 string Fodera fretless. It will be unique and amazing!
Hi sir,
I discovered your channel since a few weeks, and now I've to react... This is so amazing dude. I could listen to it a thousand times in a while... What a masterpiece. You made my day with this one. Thank you very much. Just a technical question : witch preset you're using with your bass (eq, piezo pickup maybe?). 'Cause you've just one pickup on it but it sounds more 'trebling' than I thought for this kind of pickup. Thanks a lot for your answer
Hello David, Thank you for the kind words on the music! So glad you enjoyed it. I used a little bass and treble boost on my bass preamp and a little more in the recording process. The Aguilar pickup has really good high frequency response.
Thanks !
I have the ‘FRETTED 6 STRING model’ 👍🙏😉
(It doesn’t sound like THAT!!!…..)
VERY NICE!!!💜
Thank you!
f a n t a s t i c
Thank you
Thank you very much for your beautiful work!
I'm on the way of making a fretless bass, but I am not a player myself. Could you please clarify why do you have 3 controls when there is only 1 pickup? Are those - switch/tone/volume?
I am thinking of a neck-through build. If you have any desire to help or tips to share - you are very welcome.
silmarilil thank you. My bass has bass mid and treble, volume and pan between the pickup coils.
I like both bolt on and neck through construction. I love walnut bodies and ebony fingerboards.
Is it powered directly from jack, i.e., no switch?
Also, since it's going to be the first one, I want to go easy with electronics and make a playable, decent bass with little controls. What is really necessary in terms of knobs?
it could be the soundtrack of the movie interstellar !
I'm shock, its beutiful and amazing, just one question, what is the name of that little think that you use in the minut 0:14???
Thank you, that device is called an EBOW.
I also bought this masterpiece...
Thank you very much
Beautifull, which strings are on this bass ?
ed colins thanks, the strings were Fodera stainless steel medium gauge.
Amazing!! What did you use at 00:15 ? Sound cool!!
Thank you, it’s called an ebow.
😉😇
Very inspiring player. Your playing has gotten me into the process of buying a fretless bass for me (not a bass player), but what do I get for under a grand that comes close to your sound?
Thank you Coss, I am not that familiar with basses under 1K, but I would consider something in the Ibanez, Carvin or Peavy lines. The sound of the bass in this video has alot to do with the Aguilar DCB pickup, so if thats what you are looking for you could consider putting them in as well. Hope that helps, Regards, Damian
You coax beautiful tones out of all the basses you play; what other pickups are you using?
Thank you. It really depends on the bass, some of my basses have Aguilars, some have Bartolinis, some have Fodera's Seymour Duncans.
Damian, thats just a regular fretless bass or it is a special tunning also?:) Congrats!
Cucu Bau it’s just a regular b-c tuned fretless.
Hi Damian. Love your music. I’m wondering what mode you played this in. Do you know?:-) I’ve played guitar (fingerpicking) for about 10 years now, but pretty much only since a week that I realized there’s more I could explore than the major scale I used almost exclusively.. thank you
Wishing you a good day,
Hello, I never think of melodies in terms of modes and scales. I practice major scales, harmonic minor and melodic minor scales, and modes but I do not ever think of them consciously when I am writing or playing a melody. The only thing I think about is the melody itself in the same way a singer would think of the lyrics to a song. And I use the word “think”, loosely; honestly the process is not a conscious intellectual one. I hope that helps!
@@DamianCoccio forgot to respond earlier. Thank you for your reply, makes sense. Appreciated :-)
May I ask what bass you are using in this video? I'm trying to find a good starter 6 string bass. Thanks!
Trey Nava This is a custom made Fodera. I am not sure who makes a good starter bass. I know some people like the IBanez line.
Alguém do Brasil?
